“ Brand: Maybelline / Type: Mascara / Subcategory: Wash / Texture: Gel/Fluid / What it does: volumizeses, „
A couple of months ago, I realised that I'd had my mascara quite a bit longer than is recommended and as someone who has had more than their fair share of eye infections in the past, I knew it was time to start the search for a new mascara. I'd previously been using a No 7 mascara that I was given as a gift but I wasn't particularly enamoured with it and didn't relish paying the price tag. I usually have good experiences with Maybelline mascaras so I decided to look at what they had to offer. As you can tell from this review, I walked away with this particular mascara. THE WAND Having used a fair few Maybelline mascaras in the past, the wand here isn't anything out of the ordinary and isn't anything fancy. There are no intricate designs to this wand to go hand in hand with the volume claims and it's pretty much a case of brush-on as normal. It's quite a thick wand in comparison to other 'voluminising' mascaras but I don't have any problems angling it to cover the eyelashes in the corners or my bottom eyelashes so this isn't at all detrimental to using the mascara. PRICE I bought mine from Superdrug and paid around the £6-7 mark. MY EXPERIENCES One of the first things that you'll notice about this mascara is the wild claims that it gives up to 5 times the volume. I no longer buy mascaras on the claim that they'll dramatically boost volume so I'm not disappointed when they fail to deliver. All I really ask of a mascara is that it makes my pale lashes much darker and slightly thicker looking and I'm happy. That does indeed happen with this mascara and my lashes look much more pronounced and ever so slightly longer and thicker. I certainly don't agree that it gives 5x the volume and for me, anyone who picks up a tube on this hope is going to be bitterly disappointed. It's much more of an enhancing mascara rather than one which significantly boosts your lashes. It also claims to be anti-clump, which I'd agree with to a large extent. I've never experienced any clumps while I've been using this mascara and this is one of the few for which I don't feel the need to use de-clump my lashes after the first coat. Very occasionally I do experience some smudging under my bottom lashes but I wouldn't say that this is a regular occurrence and to be honest, it's probably got more to do with my application technique as I'm not the best at putting on mascara! RECOMMENDED? I do like this mascara a lot but it's not going to be suitable for anyone who wants dramatic looking lashes. If you're looking for something to give your lashes more definition and a teensy bit of length and volume, you're more likely to be satisfied with this mascara but I wouldn't recommend buying on the strength of the packaging claims. If it wasn't for the volume-boosting claims I'd give this mascara a 4 star rating but seeing as it's not living up to these rather wild claims, my rating is downgraded to a 3-star but don't take this as an indication that it's a rubbish mascara!
As I have wrote in my other reviews I find waterproof mascaras to sometimes be a little weak compared to normal mascara this one is one of the exceptions. My boyfriend actually chose this one when I asked him to pick me one up when we were going on holiday. It cost him £3.50 from the market. To start with when I saw it I was not very hopeful it would be any good mainly down to its plain apperance it is just simple black with a silver lid. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I sometimes am guilty of doing this. I like my beauty products to look nice in my make up bag. Anyway this mascara is suppost to give your eye lashes 5 times volume. It also says on the mascara that it is suitable for contact lens wearers which I am. On undoing the lid you find that the mascara brush is quite long and thin and there is plenty of room to wiggle your brush inside the mascara holder. On applying the mascara the liquid goes onto your eyelashes smoothly and does make my eyes look bigger and my lashes longer which is great as I find sometimes waterproof mascaras can be a bit of a let down. As for the water test. The mascara stays put during swimming and did not irritate my eyes. The life on this mascara is suppost to be 6m however I have had it around a year now and it is still the same as the day I got it which is great the mascara brush screws in tightly so the liquid does not dry up. 5 stars for this waterproof mascara which does a great job.
Usually I go for more expensive brands of make up but when money is a little tight and I need a mascara, this is the one I go for. I've gone through many tubes of this and I always go back for more. I honestly love everything about the product. The brush is great. It is quite a thick brush and usually I do go for the thinner ones but this really isn't a problem with this mascara. In my opinion, this brush is perfect for the product. I do like really thick, dark lashes and I find that when I buy a new mascara, the product is quite thin to start with and it takes a few days of use for the product to thicken up a little to get the effect that I want, but I don't have that problem with this mascara at all. Application is easy. I apply one or two coats and it lasts all day but it also easy to remove when you want to. It doesn't clump and really separates lashes and makes them look thicker.
This is by far and away my favourite mascara, I absolutely swear by it. I am unlucky on the lash front, as mine are straight - they grow straight down instead of out, so I'm constantly having to use eyelash curlers. The problem here is that most mascaras (in fact every mascara I've tried apart from this one!) tend to undo all the hard work I've put in curling them, as they tend to weigh down my lashes and remove the curl. Volume Express however doesn't do this, instead it exaggerates the curl, and makes my lashes look great. Not bad for a mascara that doesn't claim to curl! As well as lifting and holding the lashes, this also thickens and defines them well. And unlike many 'volumising' mascaras, there are never any clumps. The brush is just the right size, and the colour (black of course) is very rich and deep. Also, it lasts all day and all night, and sometimes until the next day if I don't take it off properly. I love it, it's my desert island essential.
I actually have a varient on this product- its called Maybelline Volum' Express Lift-up Mascara. I really like the outward tube, its black with metallic pink writing, as I love the colour pink! The brush is not too big or too small, and is actually curved to get from the real root of the lash. I don't like curved brushes usually as I prefer the traditional brushes but this does really help to extend your lashes. I have it in black and it really does cover it all the lashes well, its quite thick but doesn't clump. It offers maximum coverage and helps to extend and volumise my eyelases. Although there is nothing wrong with the mascara, there is no wow factor with the end result and that is why I am not too excited about this product. I will probabaly buy this product again but it is definitley not my favourite mascara or the most effective out there. The product retails around £5 or £6 which is typical of a mascara price, however I would prefer to spend that money on a better mascara! Hope this review helps
This is my trusted mascara of the moment. I have used a few branded mascaras in the past mainly because I think they are better than unheard of brands. I have the waterproof version because as much as other mascaras may of started off giving a great look it is not so great after wind in your eyes and streaming black eyes. I hate the panda look. So Maybelline volume express turbo boost mascara is recognisable as quite a fat container which is nice and chunky to hold in your hand to grip whilst applying it. I have the "very black version" and the container part of the mascara is black with silver writing just telling you the name of the brand and that it is mascara. The top is a grey/silver colour and also has a label listing the ingredients. It contains 8.5ml and has a 6 month lifespan of which it is supposed to be at its best for. It retails at for £4.88 on the superdrug website although I did buy mine from boots instore ages ago but they don't appear to list it on their website. Opening the mascara is relatively easy and because the top is quite chunky it also makes it easy to get a good grip on the wand. I am not too keen on the smell as it is smells quite chemically. The colour is great though a really instense black as the name suggests it is "very black". This makes your eyes really pop when applied. I think it is quite good at lengthening the eyelashes and makes them appear to be longer than they really are. I don't think it really makes them look thicker I would say they look more of a false eyelash effect and quite spider like. The good thing with the waterproof version is you don't end up with black panda eyes if it rains or if your eyes water but is does smudge if you rub your eyes and can be a pain to remove from the skin unless you use a makeup wipe or rub the skin really hard. It lasts ages and doesn't really need to be reapplied more than once in a day so it is quite good for a day to night mascara if you go for drinks after work. Overall its the number choice of mascaras in my collection for the moment but I do tend to buy new ones quite often.
When it comes to my eyelashes I like them thick, dense and very black so any new mascaras that promise at least one (but ideally all three!) of these effects is usally purchased pretty quickly by myself! And since I am usually very impressed by Maybellines other mascaras, when I saw "Volum' Express Turbo Boost" for sale in my local Boots and realised I hadn't tried it before I decided to give it a go. Maybelline promise that "Volum' Express Turbo" will give your lashes up to 5x more volume using the 'turbo boost plumping gel' formula. The 'anti clump' brush also claims to build even more volume too. It is Opthalmologically tested so is suitable for those with sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers. It is washable, but also available in a waterproof version for those with watery eyes or allergies. It retails for £4.99 and is available in both 'very black' and 'dark brown' - both of which are extremely rich and pigmented in my opinion. It has a shelf life of six months. This mascara is packaged in a small, slightly curved tube which is black wit a silver lid. I like my packaging simple and fuss free so no complaints here. The tube is just the right size too, I don't feel like I'm wasting too much when I throw it away after a few months of use. The brush itself is of a medium size, though slightly thicker than some. For me, the thicker the brush the more volume it tends to give generally so I was happy to unscrew the cap and discover this! The bristles are ever so slightly staggered in height - the shorter ones build the volume whilst the longer ones seperate lashes for no clumps. My lashes are already naturally curled enough so I don't use a curler beforehand, but simply apply to clean, combed through lashes. With the first coat, "Volum' Express Turbo Boost" visibly thickens and adds length to all the lashes but I usually add another whilst the first is still wet for even more volume. By wiggling the wand at the base of the lashes and avoiding the tips, this mascara gives the lashes a soft, feathery finish that looks nice and fluttery! Although the brush is quite large it easily fits into the inner corners of the eyes to apply to the lashes there without smudging onto the lid, and is also small enough to reach the lower lashes easily. I rarely have a problem with mascaras fading or smudging throughout the day and this one is no exception. It stayed true to colour (which is really rich by the way) with no flaking or transferring all day. It was easily removed with my regular makeup remover which is great as I don't like using oil based removers (which I sometimes find I have to with certain mascara's). Overall, I really like this mascara. It lengthens without looking spidery and thickens without clumping or sticking lashes together. I have actually repurchased this mascara which is rare for me as I rarely tend to be happy enough with the results to use again! It dries quickly too, without leaving lashes brittle or even worse, sticky. Probably one of the best 'cheaper' mascaras out there for volume and I definatelly recommend it! :D
I spent quite some time trying to find the perfect mascara. Most either clump or run, wash away with the first tear or cannot be removed easily. This mascara by Maybelline seems to have found the almost perfect balance. Besides, it keeps its promise and makes my eyes look like Hollywood ;-)
I recently purchased a few make up items in the Maybelline range when they were on '3 for 2' in Boots. I purchased a lip colour and foundation of which I have done a review on and now I will review my other item which is the mascara. I purchased the Volum' Express waterproof which was my free product due to it being the cheapest out of the three items I bought. The reason I chose this particular one over anything else was that because it is a waterproof one - with my holiday coming up soon I wanted one that could possibly last going on a few water rides and not resulting in me ending up with streaks down my face! The packaging: The packaging is fairly simple and there is nothing that really screams out on it to catch your eye unlike some of the other Maybelline mascaras that are housed in a bright pink container! The mascara is held in plastic clear casing on top of a small cardboard backing which is a mixture of pale and dark blues. The Maybelline logo is along one side of it with name on the other side. Underneath this it tells me it is waterproof and the mascara volume is X5. It also points out it is has instant smudge proof volume, a long lasting formula, that it separates and defines and that there is no clumps. The bottom of the cardboard tells me the shade which is 'black black' Applying it: The mascara is very easy to apply - pretty much standard for most nowadays really! The brush is a good size and not too thick that you end up with mascara all over your eye lids because the brush has gotten too close! I found that true to its word it didn't clump at all and even went on nicely - I can't really say it instantly gave my eyelashes volume but, after the second coat they did look nice! It dries fairly quickly too which is good and so overall nice and easy to apply. Removing it: I used some make up remover on a pad to get the mascara off and it all came off pretty easily! No trouble at all as with just a few wipes over each set of eyelashes it was all off. I have found though that if I get my face wet once I have applied it, the mascara is pretty good at staying on so I am glad I chose this one now as I really did need one suitable for wearing on water rides in the theme parks. Price: I obviously didn't pay anything technically speaking for this mascara as it was the 'free' item but, if buying on its own you will pay £4.88. I do think this is quite good compared to other mascaras on the market that are a lot more expensive so for me even if this item wasn't free I think the price is reasonable. Overall opinion: I am quite pleased with the mascara as it does stay on all evening and my eyelashes still look just as good at the end of the evening as they did at the beginning. I cannot really say that the Volum' express name is as good as the packaging makes you believe as even though they do look fuller they don't seem that much fuller to me! However for the decent price and the fact that this is waterproof mascara I am happy enough with it because the main reason I wanted it was for the waterproof element and on this side of things it works great! So yes, I would buy it again and would recommend it for those that need a decent waterproof mascara at a not too bad a price tag!
It is more than the job and what's on the tube!! It seriously gives me a false eye-lash effect after three coats - that is quite serious. I have fairly long eyelashes but they are quite fine, so to give me full eyelashes is quite something. You could see my lashes from across the room. There were another two unexpected surprises, for me, from this mascara: length and curl. I truly didn't expect those two. After three coats, I had eye-lashes going 3/4 of the way up my to my eyebrows AND my curled eye-lashes weren't weighed down. Normally, after curling my clean lashes I have a wide-awake look until a couple of lashings of mascara, which would weigh them down close to their original position. However, with this Express Turbo, my lashes just got curlier and curlier. It's my bottom lashes that needed more work (there really aren't that many for the mascara to grab hold of) but I could still work something from it. I'd definitely use this for a glam night out. Otherwise, I might just stick to one coat for day time. One gripe from me might be that it's probably too matt. I got the black/black, but I do prefer a kind of glossiness to my lashes.
I get through quite alot of mascara, I have fair hair and eyelashes and like to define my eyes with copious amounts of mascara. I also think finding a decent mascara can be a problem, there's the consideration of whether it clumps, runs, makes the eyelashes spidery, the brush type and size and lengthening effect. A while back I bought a Volum' Express Turbo Boost mascara by Maybelline from Boots. I paid £5.99 for it which is fairly average for a mascara but I only paid full price as I had some vouchers. I usually go on an online bargain hunt to see if I can find an item anywhere else for less. I found the mascara itself very effective, it doesn't clump and it really does seem to lengthen the lashes. It isn't waterproof (you can buy a waterproof version which I've also tried but this review isn't about that) and I remove it quite easily with baby lotion. I didn't have any smudging or running of this mascara either which is unusual for me! The tube is all black with silver writing on it and it comes on a blister pack that claims "5x extreme volume instantly" and I think that claim is true! The brush is quite long, it's a standard bristle affair with closely spaced bristles all the way round and about an inch long which is slightly larger than the mascara I've just finished but perfectly manageable without mistakes. It actually makes applying quicker because it covers more lashes with each sweep. I think the effects of this mascara are excellent, I have really long lashes, very defined and not clumpy or spidery and it comes off easily. It's available in Very Black or a Brown/Black as far as I know and I always buy the Very Black for smokey, evening eyes. As far as sensitive eyes go this is also contact lens safe and opthalmologist tested according to the package, personally I have had no irritation from this mascara at all. It also doesn't smell, I find some have a chemical scent to them when wet but I can't smell this one at all. Did I find a bargain? Yes indeedy! I recently purchased another from directcosmetics.com for £3.99 but ebay also have some at reduced prices and I've once had one as a free gift from saveonmakeup.co.uk so do shop around to save yourself a couple of quid. Thoroughly recommended.
maybelline volum express I have always found that Maybelline mascaras tend to "deliver", so I thought this would be good, and given that sometimes I know I won't be swimming or out in the rain, I sometimes don't need a waterproof one THE PROMISE... As ever, there are a number of claims and promises: * The plumping Gel formula pumps up lashes for up to 5 X the volume. * Anti-Clump Turbo Brush * it is opthalmologically tested * suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. * washable *Multi-level bristles give a smooth finish - short bristles build volume while long bristles separate PRODUCT AND PACKAGING The mascara comes in the usual mascara type packaging, but this one is slightly thicker than a usual mascara, and a bit shorter which actually makes it quite easy to hold and manipulate. The mascara pen itself is black with some information on the back. When I unscrew the top and take the wand out and to me it looks like the usual mascara brush, although it does claim to have an anti clump brush... we shall see! So, out comes the brush, and the mascara is applied to my eye lashes. It builds them up quite alot and as it clams, there is no clumping; my eyelashes stay separated and I don't look as though I have only 4 eyelashes as some mascaras. Just to test it out, I apply another coat and still there is no clumping, just thicker eye lashes. Since the wand is shorter than normal mascaras I find that it is really easy to manipulate and there is less chance for me to misapply. The mascara is not waterproof, so not good for swimming or on a particularly rainy night out (we get lots of those !) but because it isn't water proof, it is really easy to remove. I find that even eye make removers for sensitive eyes manage to remove this with one sweep of the cotton wool. However, although it is easy to remove, it does stay put until I want to remove it, or until I get caught out in the rain, and then there is some serious black marks down the cheeks! HOW TO USE IT Check out the website www.maybelline.com and as well as information about the products there is advise about using the products. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY Widely available at chemists and supermarkets, this cost me around the £5 mark, but check around for offers The mascara is available in black or brown VERDICT For a mascara which does as it promises, I would recommend this one. It definitely makes lashes look thicker without looking clumpy, and although they don't look longer, this is a promise it doesn't make. It is easy to apply, easy to remove and the black I have really does make lashes look very black and thick. It is also available as a waterproof mascara which I also have and which I use for our many rainy days A good mascara for day and night use. Thanks for reading. Daniela x
Thickens lashes to give you 7x the volume!
