Now when it comes to mascara I am not really one for sticking to a certain make or type I like to give lots ago. This one cost me £3 from the market I much prefer to buy from market stores when it comes to products like these than pay £6.99 for them in Boots or Superdrug to find out I don't like them or they irritate my eyes. This particular mascara I purchased before going on holiday I always wear waterproof mascara when abroad to avoid big panda eyes in the pool. Usually however I find that waterproof mascara does not tend to be as noticeable as regular mascara and this can be a problem when the whole point of wearing it is to make your eyes stand out. Colosal volum promises to be 'Waterproof' - Its fine unless you rub your eyes when in the water then it smudges but not to the extent of what I name 'drama mascara' which leaks down your face in dramatic waterfalls of black, this mascara can also withstand a good cry. 'Up to 7x more volume, Instantly in just one coat' erm not quite it does make your eyelashes curl up more though and make your eyes more noticable I still apply a couple of coats though and it is much better than other waterproof mascara I have worn in the past. 'No clumps' This I would say I have not had a major problem with you sometimes have to use the brush twice to make sure lumps are broke up but appart from that its fine. It also says it has a 'colossal brush' which to me makes me think the brush is going to be one of those large ones it not it just looks like a regular mascara brush to me. Overall this mascara does the job its suppost to and I have carried on wearing it on a day to day basis even when going out for £3 i can't grumble you get 10ml the guidelines say it lasts for 6m I have had it longer than that (I know your not suppost to but who really takes notice of this on make up especially when its still perfectly fine) its not dried up in anyway and is the same as the day I bought it. A mascara which does what it says would recomment. Thanks for reading my review you may also fine me on other review sites using the same name.
Positives: Attractive packaging. Fat tube design in black with pink metallic writing on it. The breadth of the tube makes it easier to hold the wand and apply the mascara. The colour is quite intense. The brush is good and manages to coat all the lashes. It is curved which makes the mascara easier to apply. The product does not flake or run when subjected to rain or moisture. Has not irritated my eyes. Negatives: My eyelashes are quite short and have no curl in them so I wanted something that suggested it would lift them and open up my eyes. I don't feel it did this and so didn't live up to it's name of "volume express". I also feel that it made my eyelashes look quite stiff and brittle (no-one else would probably notice this but I do when I look close up in the mirror!) I have noticed before that this can happen with supposed "curling" mascaras. A lot of product seems to get onto the brush and I always have to wipe a lot of on a tissue before I use it which seems a waste. I have used other mascaras that make my eyelashes seem thicker and a little longer for a comparable price and so overall I don't think it is worth the money.
The mascara that I keep going back to! I purchased this item a few years ago (costs around £5.99). I just wanted to try a different mascara and I love maybelline products so I thought ah why not? I naturally have long lashes but lack in volume! It really helps bring out my eyes! A few of my friends said it made their eyelashes clump. This problem is often caused by the application of the mascara not the mascara itself. To prevent clumps on eyelashes start from the furthest side of the eye working your way inwards and wriggling the brush from the roots all the way to the top! It works for me! I purchased the blackest mascara and this lasts me around six months. Just the right amount of time cause you need to throw them away after that. I always try to purchase a new one cause there's always a new release and now I'll stop that cause they've always disappointed me! This is a bargain and it is acutally waterproof! Can be horrible to take off but I often find it better to used a creamy based eye make up remover BEFORE you wash your face. Water based ones often make me lose eyelashes!
This mascara is....OK. I guess is it depends what you want out of a mascara- if you want clumps of excess mascara sitting on top of your lashes, in addition to what is actually coating your lashes, this might be the stuff for you! I sometimes wipe the brush with tissue before applying, and actually get a much more pleasing result this way, with lashes that don't look like spiders legs. As promised on the packaging, it does seem to be waterproof, in that I can't remove it with cleansing wipes. Smudge proof on the other hand- not so good. By mid afternoon there is a little smudgy black rim under each of my eyes. Having said all of the above, Volume wise, Volume Express does essentially do what it says on the tin- my lashes being significantly fuller after application than before. Before purchasing Volume Express I was a regular user of Great Lash mascara, which I remember originally brought the brand Maybelline to my attention. I think when my tube of Volume Express is eventually empty, I shall be reverting back to Great Lash.
Every time my masacra runs out, Im off to Boots to see what promotions they have on new products. The maybelline express looked good, I never had any problems by using Maybelline and they are a well known brand. So I decided to go with it, it was only around £5.00 on promotion. The next day, I started using it...... I was disappointed. It dries on clumpy and sticky. So dry, that a few of my eyelashes would fall off each time I used it. I stuck with it for about a week or so, and I had a clump missing from the corner of my left eye. Definately, not what you want from a volume boosting mascara. This was more like a lash minimising mascara. I have never had any other problems with Maybelline mascaras, so I'm not too sure why this is different. However, removing the mascara was fairly easy. As most mascaras do, it did have a tendency to leave me with a nice pair of panda eyes. But thats easily removed by a second go of cleanser. I'm not goin to stop buying Maybelline products, but I will definately not be buying this one again. I like my eyelashes thank you. And I would much prefer a mascara that glided on and dried clump and sticky free.
During the summer I often switch to waterproof mascara so it doesn't melt and smudge down my face. This year I hadn't bought one before the heatwave hit but I had this Maybelline Volum Express Waterproof one in my possession as I received it as a free gift at the end of last year. I've used the normal version of this mascara a few times in the past and liked it so I switched to the waterproof one a couple of weeks ago. The difference between the packaging on this one and the normal one is this one has a silvery grey lid rather than just a black one. Of course it states it is waterproof on the side of the container too. This mascara has a very large brush, it's probably about an inch long which I'm sure some people won't like especially as the trend at the moment seems to revolve around those round brushes with the tiny heads. I personally quite like a large brush on mascara, it covers my lashes quickly and I don't have any problems with accuracy. So as a mascara what's it like? It is actually one of the best ones I've used and I'm really picky about mascara. It goes on easily and makes lashes look very long and thickens them to the point you can easily put too much on and make your eyes look over dramatic for the daytime. It works really well on upper and lower lashes and if you have naturally short lashes this will definitely improve their appearance. I've got quite long lashes but they're not dark enough for my liking so this makes mine look super long. Taking it off is simple, I always use baby oil to remove waterproof mascara and it works very well. This does not come off with eye make up removers that are not aimed at waterproof products but it will smudge it a bit. As for the waterproof factor it's not bad but not perfect. I have worn this many times during the hot nights and can say I've only had one little smudge appear once. If I wear normal mascara when it's warm it produces two unattractive black smudges under my eyes after a short period of time when it's hot so for this purpose it's been a success. I've also applied this after my partner has had a hot bath or shower and made the house so hot and sauna-like the rest of my make up is merrily melting off my face and this mascara stayed put. I left it on in the shower to test it and most of it stayed on but I got some smudging under my eyes but I suspect that's because I rubbed them a bit so if you were to go swimming and wear this you would be ok as long as you didn't touch your eyes. In fact it can easily be smudged by rubbing your eyes whether there's water around or not but they never said it was "rub proof" did they?! Overall it's quite good. The brush is a decent size, the mascara gives your lashes a nice long, thick appearance and it's fairly waterproof as long as you don't push it too hard. It's widely available online for about £3.99 which is also a good price. I would buy this again and give it 4 stars.
Maybe she's born with it...... I have used Maybelline mascara for years now, mainly because my mum uses it and when I was a kid I was always fascinated by the pink and green mascara wand (this is apparently America's number 1 mascara) and so as an adult just naturally gravitated towards that. Maybelline great lash mascara has always been my wand of choice but this time when I ran out I decided to try a different product in their range. Maybelline, as most of us know is a makeup brand which is owned by L'Oreal and sold worldwide. The company was founded in 1913 by a chemist in New York, T.L. Williams, hence the New York connection to this day. Mr Williams was inspired by his sister, Maybell when he saw her applying a home made remedy to her lashes in order to make them darker and fuller. A few experiments in his laboratory and Maybelline was born. The Volume Express Mascara promises to give you 3 times the lash volume instantly and I was looking for a little va-va-voom as I don't have the thickest lashes so I decided to give this one a try. The whole product itself is a bit bulky and not slim line like some mascara's so it takes up a bit more room in your makeup bag but this is not necessarily a disadvantage. The thickness of it makes it quite easy to grip and so makes for a steadier hand whilst applying the mascara. The amount of this mascara is 10ml. The outer casing is a dark blue colour and it has Maybelline written on it. It is not as easily recognisable as the Great Lash mascara but still looks nice. The brush is quite long and thick. It is made up of both short bristles and long bristles. The short bristles are meant to build maximum volume whilst the long bristles comb through the lashes and separate them for an even finish. I found this brush really nice and easy to use. It did seem to separate my lashes and a lot more of the liquid transfers onto my lashes than normal. Also, with this brush I can almost cover all the length of my eyelashes in one stroke as compared to other mascaras which need a few goes because their brushes are shorter. The brush is meant to be an anti-clump brush too. I'm not too sure what classifies an anti-clump brush but I didn't really get a very big unwanted build-up on the lashes which was nice. The liquid coats well though and is quite thick and does look very professional. Is it 3 times more volume, well, I don't know, it's hard to say but my lashes do look longer and fuller so I am pleased with the results. There are some instructions for use listed on the packaging. For best results we are told to "Gently sweep mascara through lashes, taking care to start as close to the root of the lash as possible to create a full, even look." This advice comes straight from Maybelline New York's Celebrity Make-Up Artist, Fiona Jolly, I bought the waterproof version which was quite good for a waterproof version of mascara. It didn't really smudge when my eyes watered but it was quite easy to remove at the end of the day with a good quality make up remover. The mascara does come in a regular version too. The other great thing I like about this mascara too it that it is ophthalmologically tested, basically meaning that it is suitable for contact lens wearers. I wear contact lenses and am forever getting makeup in my eye that my optician tells for off for so hopefully with this mascara even if I do get some in my eyes it will not harm the contacts or my eyes. It is also said to contain soft plant waxes that gently condition lashes but to be honest who knows whether their lashes are conditioned or not! This mascara cost me £4.99 from Boots but can be found in most high street beauty stores. A product I recommend.
I wanted a decent waterproof mascara and I tried so many before finding this one, now I won't use any other. I love waterproof mascaras, but finding the right one did take some time! I wanted a mascara that would stay on if I cried, stayed on if I got hot and for swimming, basically if any sign of water came near my eyes, I want the mascara to stay on, not start running down my face in great big black lines, nor did I want greyish rings forming around my eyes in the heat when make up has a tendency to start melting. Not only did I want all this, but I wanted volume and length to my lashes in a rich black colour. I didn't want clumps and I didn't want it to cost a fortune. Maybelline Volum express is the one waterproof mascara that I can fully rely on. It makes my eyelashes look really long and voluminous, it goes on really easy and the consistency is just right, not to watery, but not too thick that it clumps. The brush is not too small, but just the right size for producing perfect lashes. It claims to produce 5 x volume on your lashes. My eyelashes are not very long and are very fine especially on the bottom row, but using this mascara they certainly do look very thick and full, but what about the waterproof part? I have worn this and been in floods of tears and it stayed on with no sign of panda eyes or black streaks. I have used this mascara for years and always when going out on a night out, because alcohol has a tendency to make me a bit teary sometimes! I have also worn this when doing any kind of sports and swimming and it is fantastic. It is the only mascara that I have found that will stay on your eyelashes while swimming without a hint of rub off. As it is such a tough mascara, it does take quiet a bit of getting off, and regular make up removers won't shift it, you will end up rubbing your eyelashes off. You will need a make up remover or wipes that will remove waterproof eye make up, or you will end up with half of it on still in the morning. I always use the Turbo Black, but it is available in dark brown too. It is recommended that you change it after 6 months ( to help stop infection - this is standard with eye make up ) and it costs £4.99 from Boots or any other Maybelline stockists. It is quite often on offer though, £1 off sometimes, so look out for those. This is the best waterproof mascara that I have found that does not cost a fortune, and I won't be trying anything else as this works.
maybelline volum express My make up box usually contains at least 5 different mascaras as I go on the elusive search for the perfect one. I have always found that Maybelline mascaras tend to "deliver", so I thought this would be good. THE PROMISE... * The plumping Gel formula pumps up lashes for up to 5 X the volume. * Anti-Clump Turbo Brush builds volume. * it is opthalmologically tested * suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. * waterproof PRODUCT AND PACKAGING The mascara comes in the usual mascara type packaging, but I think that it is slightly thicker than a usual mascara, and a bit shorter which actually makes it quite easy to hold and manipulate. The mascara pen itself is black with some information on the back. When I unscrew the top and take the wand out and to me it looks like the usual mascara brush, although it does claim to have an anti clump brush... we shall see! So, out comes the brush, and the mascara is applied to my eye lashes. It does seem to build them up quite considerably and miraculously, there is no clumping. Without allowing the mascara to dry I apply another coat and still there is no clumping, just thicker eye lashes. Since the wand is shorter than normal mascaras I find that it is really easy to manipulate and there is less chance for me to misapply. The mascara is waterproof, so should be good for swimming or particularly rainy night out (we get lots of those !). One down side is the fact that it really is waterproof. How can this be a down side? It is quite difficult to remove and the products I find best to use to remove the mascara are cream eye make up removers, as they tend to make my eyes feel less dries out, and they also seem less asringent. HOW TO USE IT Check out the website www.maybelline.com and as well as information about the products there is advise about using the products. For this one, new York's celebrity make up artist suggets that it should be applied from "outer lash to inner lash, sweeping brush slowly from root to tip. Do not let dry it between coats." That's how I would normally apply it but at least I know I am doing it properly. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY Widely available at chemists and supermarkets, this cost me around the £5 mark, but check around for offers VERDICT For a mascara which does as it promises, I would recommend this one. It definitely makes lashes look thicker without looking clumpy, and although they don't look longer, this is a promise it doesn't make. It is easy to apply, and although it is quite tricky to remove I know I won't have black streaks running down my cheeks if it rains. It is also available as a non waterproof mascara so I think I will try it out for non rainy days. A good mascara for day and night use. Thanks for reading. Daniela x
Introduction I am always on the lookout for a really good mascara, the one I'm looking for should be waterproof, last all day, make my eyelashes long, thick and curl, but not make my eyelashes clumpy and brittle, and be easy to remove at night. I'm yet to find this perfect mascara and doubt it exists but I have found this mascara which has proved to have met some of my requirements. I bought this macara in turbo black - waterproof. Price and Packaging The mascara retails at £4.50 in Maybelline counters at stores such as Superdrug and Boots. It does go on special offer quite a lot at both of those stores so look out, you may be able to get it cheaper. The mascara comes in quite a wide tube which contains 8.5ml of product. The tube is black with a silver-grey lid. Between the lid and tube there is a thin ring of shiny silver plastic. The brush is has more bristles than most mascara brushes and they are thick making for a fuller application. It says on the side 'Ophthalmologically tested. Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers'. The packaging isn't particularly attractive but I like the shape of the tube. Product & Application After I applied the mascara to my eyes I was a little surprised, from the way the brush is structured I was expecting it to make my eyelashess look clumpy and too thick! This wasn't the case at all, they looked evenly spread and fluttery. However the thickness wasn't as good as I normally like it, as the mascara is called 'Volum' Express' I felt a little let down. If you are going out I would recommend another coat to make your lashes look thicker and longer, or use an eyelash curler first, as one coat didn't really achieve this like other mascaras do. The mascara didn't smudge at all. Durability I wore this mascara during a heavy crying session and also wore it in the shower and to go swimming. The mascara did it's job and didn't budge at all! Didn't even leave any smudges. The mascara lasted all day and didn't appear to wear off until it was ready to take off for bed. To take it off I just used cotton wool with my expensive eye make-up remover and it all came off easily leaving no traces. However, when I tried taking it off with a cheap make-up remover I found that there were still traces of mascara left so it may be worth investing in a good make-up remover if you use this brand.
I love this mascara, I use the Volum' Express Turbo Boost version which I think claims to boost volume by 5 times. I think it costs a fiver in Boots but you can probably find it marginally cheaper if you shop around. Two coats of this stuff and I'm good to go. I'd recommend it if you like the falsh lash effect as it really does lengthen lashes and open up your eyes. I use the waterproof black version, which is very black, but despite this I've never had panda eyes. It is VERY waterproof, as with all maybelline mascaras (I also recommend Lash Stylist), which could be considered a downside as you just can't get it off! The best thing I've found for removing it is baby lotion as it is oily, and water alone will just not make this mascara budge! I recently ran out, and instead I bought Rimmel Magnif'eyes and although its okay its nowhere near as good as Volum' Express. I'll throw in a quick review of Magnif'eyes, it does give a wide eyed look but I couldn't get the waterproof version (if they do one??) and it comes off really easily. The one thing I was really unimpressed with was the wand. It looks similar to the Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara wand with like a rubbery spikey brush, but after a couple of uses the spikey bits have bent flat (where I've taken the wand out of the tube)so I can only use half the wand. Not very impressed. I've just bought Max Factor Lash Lift from eBay for my holiday as it had rave reviews on the This Morning Waterproof Make Up Test, so as soon as I've used that I'll review that as well! All in all I'd thoroughly recommend this mascara, as it really does what it says on the tin!
Even though this mascara smudged my eyes on day one, I gave it a whole week to make sure. I returned this yesterday. It easily clumped on my lashes and does not go on smoothly. Lashes do not look sleek as I had hoped, and to make things worse, powder and eyeshadow stick to this stuff easily. It smudged within an hour, and although I have easily smudgeable eyes (asian eyes *sigh*) I don't ususally find waterproof mascaras to smudge this quickly! Because it is "waterproof" it is extremely hard to remove as it becomes a messy smudge party around my eyes with eye makeup remover.
I really don't like this mascara, i really like maybelline products so bought this with high expectations. However when i first put it on it clumped up MAJORLY, the first sign of a bad mascara. I managed to separate the clumps eventually so it looked ok when it was on. However when it came to removal time, i found it quite hard to remove with eyemakeup remover and went very flaky. My overall exprerience with this mascara was quite bad and it is now laying redundant at the bottom of my make up bag.
First, let me explain my title. I am sure there are not many girls as lazy as I am, but I HATE taking mascara off at night. So much so, in fact, that I simply don't do it. There, I've admitted it!! :) The trouble with not taking mascara off, however, is that you can wake up with panda eyes which shriek to the world that you are a bone-idle lazy good-for-nothing who doesn't care about looking after herself. Also, a lot of waterproof mascara just WILL NOT BUDGE without special removal lotions and a lot of rubbing with cottonwool. All that rubbing can't be good and I hate cotton-wool and the fibres get in my lashes. Blech to that. I love this mascara because it's definitely waterproof, you can sleep in it, wake up looking made-up instead of looking like pink rabbit - but if you have a warm shower in the morning and wash your face and lashes it dislodges fairly easily. You can wipe any residue away with a tissue and you're ready for another application. I use the Black variant and it's a nice deep black. Not one of those really dark browns masquerading as black. The mascara builds quickly on your lashes. I need to curl my lashes so I apply the first coat and let it dry while I am slapping on various other cosmetics to different parts of my face, then I curl my lashes (they hold the curl really well this way), then I apply several more coats. The mascara smells pretty neutral to me (some mascaras have a really strong scent which can be unpleasant). So all in all, I love this mascara but maybe for the wrong reasons lol! I've been following this practice for many many years (though not as successfully until I found this mascara) with zero eye problems. In fact, I read a beauty book as a teenager where the woman who wrote it admitted she did this so I was influenced by that. It's all very well applying mascara for the outside world, but it's nice to think my hub gets to see me looking halfway decent first thing! Oh, I nearly forgot - the price. Well, it's usually between £5-£6 which is pretty good for a mascara these days. Some of those really high-tech ones are coming in at a tenner (I sometimes wonder how much the consumer is paying for the packaging). DISCLAIMER: I just realised from a comment left that people might think I am actually recommending people leave mascara on. Obviously, everyone should be thinking for themselves but I am not recommending this habit - just the mascara itself. It's just that this product suits my strange way of life!
Waterproof mascara that aims to triple the volume of your lashes in one application
