Advantages: Feels smooth, looks glamorous
Disadvantages: Price
I?m not really a lipstick kind of girl. I tend to stick to clear lip balms, after all, any lipstick will only rub off on the hundreds of men I kiss on a daily basis surely? (I wish). But I am susceptible to clever advertising and special offers, as I think we all are if we admit it. I must have seen the advert for Maybelline?s watershine diamonds lipstick a hundred times. You know the one, there?s an impossibly gorgeous supermodel with lips that shimmer and shine. Then in Superdrug my beady eye spotted these lipsticks on special offer, at £4:99 instead of £5:99. Still a bit pricey for a lipstick, but diamonds are a girls best friend apparently, and 5 quid for a touch of glamour is not to be sniffed at. I?m not overly impressed by the packaging, a bright pink plastic tube that reminds me of dressing up as a child. Look closer though and you see the glitter on the tube, and there?s a rather nice chrome band around the middle. I chose the Lolita Dream shade, a very girly light pink colour. There are 10 shades available, pinks through to reds and browns. From the advertising I was expecting glossy, shiny lips which sparkled in the light. As I opened my pink tube (oooh madam!), I could clearly see the glitter particles in the lipstick. It was very easy to apply and felt smooth. Once on my lips it felt like I had a lip balm on, it tasted of nothing and smelt of nothing too. My lips felt nice and soft but not sticky. It lasted quite well, but as it is shiny, your lips remain moist and inevitably some comes off. A tip- if you?re wearing lippy and out drinking, lick the rim of your glass or bottle first to prevent it coming off. Do it subtly though, you don't want to look as though you are perfoming a lewd act. My lips looked very shiny and had a definite wet look to them. If I looked close up, I could see the tiny bits of glitter. I am pleased with this lipstick, but think it is better for going out as part of a complete
look, as it looks wrong on its own. As the lipstick is shiny and sparkly, it makes lips look larger and more eye catching. I found out from the Maybelline website that the diamond effect comes from tiny leaves of silver in the lipstick which reflect light. I must say though, looking at the advert, it does not make your lips as shiny as the models are. She is definitely wearing gloss on top of the lipstick. I have read the other reviews of this product and don?t understand why they are mostly negative. I am impressed by this product and although it is more than I usually spend on make up, I think I will buy a few more colours.

- 08/05/03 Great tip about stopping lipstick marks on your glass. Now I just have to think of a way of doing it surreptitiously! |

- 15/11/02 I would argue that you need to make something else wet to satisfy a woman. but I am always told how innocent my face is and I dont want to spoil it by "lewd suggestions". I like the look of this stuff, I love wet-look lipsticks and glosses, men love them too. |

- 15/11/02 I have often wondered about this- very interesting. I am also shocked by the Lolita Dream thing! |
