Advantages: Feels nice on your lips, Nice colours
Disadvantages: Not 'watershine' as it states, Expensive
I must admit that I'm a bit lazy as far as lipsticks go, often preferring to just wear either tinted or clearlip gloss (normally from the Body Shop) or a slick of vaseline, which is pretty shiny in the gloss department. I first saw the adverts for Maybelline's Watershine lipstick on a Freebie web site, where you could click on a link which took you straight to the Maybelline site where you could request a free sample. I clicked and requested but nothing arrived, so I left it a few weeks and clicked again. Still nothing. At this stage we didn't have the Watershine lipstick in our local shops, so I was disappointed that I hadn't received the free sample to try first. Then I found the range had arrived in our local Woolies, and although they didn't stock all the colours, they still had a pretty good range to choose from. I decided to buy it, after all, my lips would be so shiny and kisable - how could I not? I chose 'Cocoa Shine' which was a lovely browny pink shade, and eagerly tried it out as soon as I got home. At £5.65 I was expecting a lot from it. The colour was lovely, so was the feel of the lipstick. Some lipsticks, I find, gather in a line on your lips if they are too creamy, but this one felt nice. It lasted about the same length of time as my other, cheaper lipsticks. But the ultimate test was for the shine, after all! So what did I think? It did shine a bit, yes, but no more so than other cheaper gloss lipsticks. and yet it cost quite a bit more than the normal ones I usually get. I probably wouldn't buy this one again for that reason. Unless of course, Maybelline brought the price down. As I said, I quite like the finish on my lips as it does feel a bit glossy, but it just doesn't look as shiny as I expected it to look, and for the price I expected a lot more.

- 22/09/01 You're right, it is a bit glossy but it looks NOTHING like in the adverts. I was disappointed too :( |
