Advantages: Great colour, nice packaging, lasts well.

Disadvantages: You will need to reapply.

Encased in a metallic pink, slim-lined case and coming in a range of bold, opaque colours, Maybelline Wet Shine Fusion Lipstick is not for the faint of heart. I own this lipstick in the colour Very Cherry, which is a rich, full-bodied red lipstick. It is actually a pretty perfect red lipstick in terms of colour I must say; bright, not orangey, but not too dark or purple-ish looking. Just right!

I also really like the packaging, the two halves of the case snap together quite tightly so I don't worry about the top half coming off in my bag and leading to a red lipstick covered mobile phone or anything like that. The inner casing is silver and looks quite smart, though plastic. Also the lipstick itself is raised by swivelling the bottom half of the container against the inner silver casing, and is a very smooth and easy to control movement.

I have already had this lipstick a year or two and although I can't say I wear it often I am still very happy with how it has lasted. It is still as bright as ever and the colour does not seem diminished in any way. Also there's a healthy amount of lipstick in the tube, probably around an inch and a half of colour, which with these bright colours will take you a long time to get through.

Applying the lipstick, it does slide on very smoothly and doesn't feel drying at all on your lips. The wet shine effect is very clear as it definitely a glossy finish and not a matte. Don't expect it to look like you've got lip gloss on though, it is still a more subtle shine. For a truly wet look you'd need to cover it with a slick of clear lop gloss I'd say.

The one problem I would say I've had with this lipstick is that the colour does tend to bleed. Especially if it is used without sealing the lips with a lip-liner, you will find that after a few hours you will begin to see the colours seeping into the fine lines around your mouth. To be fair this is something probably only you will notice but still. This doesn't put me off overly as it can be mitigated with applying lip liner liberally before putting on the lipstick. Also, if you just want a bit of colour you can blot your lips after applying and this will also lessen any smudging. Of course blotting also does mean that the benefit of the 'wet shine' part of the lipstick will no longer be visible.

Lastly, if you're wearing this in a bright colour, don't be expecting to be kissing anyone! They will end up with massive smudges around their mouths, as will you. While this lipstick is no worse than other brands in a similar price range, it isn't any better either. It will come off if you eat, kiss, or drink, so you will definitely need to reapply if you're wearing a bright colour. I think anyone wearing a real red though would expect to have to reapply throughout the evening.

All in all a good, affordable lipstick and a really great red.

Summary: A good, affordable lipstick and a really great red.
