Advantages: nice smooth finish, easy application

Disadvantages: doesn't last very long

I bought lots of OPI nail varnishes, which are lovely but expensive, so I had promised myself that I wouldn't spend any more money on nail varnish until I had used them all up. I did well at keeping my promise until a couple of weeks later when I was in the beauty section at TJ Hughes and noticed a bottle of Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds nail polish. I knew I shouldn't, but it was as though this beautiful polish was calling out 'buy me! Buy me!' The red sparkly polish was glinting like the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz, and at only £1 I promptly broke my promise!!

~Some Clarification before we start!~

Firstly I want to point out that the product I have is called 'Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds' and not 'Water Shine Diamonds' like the picture, that was my fault for submitting the wrong picture to Dooyoo when I suggested this product. Also, I realise that the 'Diamonds' is missing off the product name... the nail polishes with 'Diamonds' in their name contain glitter, the ones without are just called 'Wet shine'. I hope that's not too confusing!!

~Bottle~

The bottle is just like the one pictured, and is quite large, holding 14.7ml. The brush handle is a good length and the brush itself is long, but neat - by that, I mean the bristles aren't all splayed out, which can sometimes occur making it harder to apply.

~Application~

I applied the polish to my toes as I'm not brave enough to wear such a strong colour on my fingers! The polish went on easily and wasn't gloopy or sticky. The colour was not as intense as it looked in the bottle, instead of the deep red I was expecting, I got a sort of wishy washy pale purple. Applying a second coat improved the colour slightly, but it still wasn't quite the same as it looked in the bottle.

~Results~

The polish dried quickly and didn't smudge straight after application. The glitter (or 'diamonds') was a lot more subtle than I had expected, and you only really noticed it when my nails caught the light. The polish looked smooth and shiny too.
As for durability, this lasted three days before I noticed it had started to chip. I thought that was quite quick for it to chip, as normally in the winter when I am usually wearing boots with socks or shoes with tights the cheaper brands of polish I own (like this one) will last about a week before chipping -less in summer when I'm in open toed shoes.

~Price and Availability~

I believe the range has been discontinued, but you can still pick them up quite cheaply in discount stores like TJ Hughes where (as mentioned) I bought mine for £1, or Ebay or other online stores such as www.cosmetics4less.net

~Overall Verdict~

This was OK for the price, although it did chip fairly quickly, and the colour wasn't as strong as I had expected. It did go on easily, dried quickly and gave a nice smooth finish though. I would consider buying it again, but only if it was cheap. If you're looking for long lasting, intense colour, I would suggest trying something else.

Summary: diamonds for your toes

Nice review. I have just been wearing a brand called N.Y.C colours from Superdrug, Had it on 3 days so far and it's still on great, not quite as good as opi but for a cheap one it's impressed me.
