Advantages: Nice range of shades, Easy to use, Nice finish.
Disadvantages: Can oxidize slightly on oily skin, Hard to find recently.
Throughout most of my time in secondary school Maybelline was usually my brand of choice. It was cheap, easy to come by and generally consistent in quality. I loved their eyeshadows, lipsticks, mascaras (still do actually!) but most of all their foundations. Many other brands didn't carry shades pale enough for me but Maybelline was always there to save the day :-) I used a couple but "Wonder Finish" was always the favourite for me and my friends.
Described as a 'liquid to powder foundation' this product promises to give a weightless powder finish. It is oil free so shouldn't cause any problems on acne-prone skin and has an sun protection factor of fifteen to help protect your face from the sun.
I think it costs around £4.99 if I remember correctly, I'm not sure as I havn't purchased it for a long time now and it seems to be a little harder to come by lately anyway.
It is packaged in a pale cream bottle with a beige screw top lid. Inside the lid there is a small squirty applicator which releases just the right amount of product whilst keeping the rest inside the bottle clean and hygenic. You have to shake the bottle well before use as I suspect there could be a buildup of 'powder' at the bottom if you dont which would cause the rest of the liquid to be very watery and not apply so well.
It is available in around 6 or 7 shades I think, though Maybelline don't tend to cater for darker skinned ladies too well which is a shame, so bare that in mind if you are thinking of trying foundations from them.
With daily use I believe one of these probably lasted me about three months, which isn't bad at all considering the price.
I applied over clean and well moisturised skin using my fingertips. The foundation blends seamlessly into my face but it does dry quickly so you have to work quickly to avoid streaking.
It lives up to it's claims when it says it will give you a weightless powder finish - the effect is definately powdery, but with a smooth, satin like effect that doesn't feel overly artifical on the skin.
I found it lasted well on me throughout the day though I did encounter some problems:
~ It oxidises. Only slightly, but enough for me to notice when I tried it recently. I never noticed it when I was younger but to be honest I wasn't as well versed back then so it probably happened all the time!
~ It tends to cling to any dry areas, especiallly around the nose and eyes. This is more than likely due to the powder in it as I don't experience this with other foundations. An easy way to avoid this would be to make sure you moisturise those areas especially well or use a silicone based primer.
Overall, although I don't use this foundation anymore as I have found others that are more suited to my skin type and tone, it served me well for around 3 years so that says something in itself!
I love(d) the range of shades, the easy application and the powdery-yet-not-powdery-looking finish.
For the price it is a great foundation in my opinion and I would happily use it again if needed.
Summary: A good foundation for the price you pay!
