Maybelline Wonder Finish Foundation
Advantages: Cheap, good for dry skin, bottle lasts a long time,
Disadvantages: discontinued (but can by online),
This foundation is simply the best I've ever used. Because of my constant battle with dry skin and eczema, I have always found it difficult finding a suitable foundation for my complex skin. After trying many unsuccessful different brands of makeup, varying from cheap to expensive (Rimmel, Clinique, Body shop e.g.) I thought it was impossible to find a foundation suited for me.
The foundation is incredibly oily, so if your prone to spots or have oily skin, this isn't suitable for your type of skin. It doesn't dry my skin out which is the main advantage for me. (Just to mention though, if you suffer from dry skin it is vital you moisturise heavily before putting any foundation/makeup. Even with this foundation I moisturise extensively before.) The foundation is in liquid form, but when applied on the skin it gives an airbrushed affect, looking like a powder.
There used to be a range of shades and colours to match your skintones, although nowadays this foundation is only sold limited to the most popular shades (Nude, Ivory and Fawn). If you hunt hard enough, you will be able to find them! But it doesn't seem popular enough to be sold in mass.
One other major advantage of this product is how long the bottle lasts. You only need a tiny splodge on your hand and that would be enough to complete half your makeup. Even layered up on a night out, I still don't use a considerable amount. Even though it looks a small bottle, the product can potentially last months at a time.
I have found only two minor flaws of this product. Firstly you need to make sure you shake the bottle. It's easy to forget, but the colour or thickness can often change if you don't shake. Second, you need to make sure you've properly blended it into your skin. If in a rush and not blended, you can get streaks of darker colour, which isn't at all attractive!
If your wondering why you can't seem to see this product on Maybelline shelves, it is because it has been discontinued! When I came to realise this I was distraught... the only foundation I'd ever liked from the past 2 years of trying countless others is no longer buyable! However, have no fear... as you can still buy it.
No highstreet shop (as far as I've seen) sells this product anymore, but thanks to online shopping, it is still available. Ebay is my favourite location, and there are plenty of sellers that you can still buy from.
An example of this is, when I type 'maybelline wonder finish foundation' into ebay (the date I write this review), 83 products have come up! So still buyable. An downside to this however is the unknown of how long the stocks will last...
I've stocked up on the foundation, buying a few at once. Hopefully lasting me a long while. There are a lot of offers on ebay which sell three or more at once, which might be advisable as this overall price is cheaper than buying them individually.
Another disadvantage is the fact you won't be able to test the foundation in a shop as normal. This can obviously lead to miscolouring, which is disastrous when your face ends up like an oompa loompa's skintone!
The popular shades are midtones/average skin colour. Ivory the shade I use is slightly more for the paler, but I wouldn't say its out of the ordinary. Just to add, a lot of foundations I have bought before were named 'ivory', so it might be a tip to try compare names to other common foundations you use.
So a put off might be that you can't try it out, but even discontinued, the makeup hasn't jumped in price. SO it isn't much waste of money if it isn't right for you. Infact some offers have reduced from the original price. You can find it relatively cheap, you can buy 'buy it now' ebay offers at £3.99, which is definitely value for money. Then again, it is being sold at expensive prices. The original price it used to sell at was around £6, so baring this in mind you can work out if people are overcharging.
Summary: My favourite foundation of all time!
