First of all I'd like to say I have the waterproof version of this mascara, I bought it by mistake actually and just thought I was getting a normal black waterproof mascara but when it arrived and I opened it I realised it was one of the 2 step variety with the white end to thicken lashes and the black end to apply the actual black mascara. Maybelline XXL microfiber mascara claims to visibly lengthen lashes up to 40% and provide 4 times the volume. It is contact lens safe, opthalmologist tested and comes in a blue and white tube. The tube actually is the brushes and the caps have the product in them which I thought was the wrong way round as it would have been easier to use if the wands had been attached to the caps. Once I'd got past the irritation that I'd bought the wrong product I decided to use it anyway until it ran out. I much prefer a normal bog standard waterproof mascara and don't really want to use something that claims to give a false eyelash effect on a daily basis but I thought if I was careful not to apply too much I could avoid the drag queen effect. I've used some of these 2 step mascaras before and found they are very effective at giving a long lash look but some of them are too effective for daytime use. The first problem I encountered was getting the lids to unscrew, they are very tight to begin with and I struggled for ages trying to get them off! It doesn't help that once you've unscrewed one end and put it back on it then twists in your hand as you try and hold it still to get the other end off so not a great start. Once I'd got past that though I found the brushes were nice large brushes which I prefer. The white end should be used first to thicken lashes and after you apply this it's best to give it a few seconds to dry before adding colour. The white end seemed very dry even from the beginning and I knew this product wouldn't last long. Once the white is dry you then coat it with the black waterproof colour which I have to admit does separate the lashes brilliantly, there's no clumping or spider leg effect with this mascara just lots of individual lashes. I do think it looks like it lengthens the lashes and it really opens the eye area up by curling them slightly and encouraging them away from the eye. The black colouring is as it claims to be, waterproof, and it doesn't smudge or run whilst you are wearing it. In fact when it comes to removing the product because it has 2 layers it takes quite a bit of doing so at least you know this isn't going to budge once it's on. If you apply it carefully and don't go mad it can be made to look subtle enough for daytime use too, it just gives you nicely separated long lashes which don't look like they belong on a cabaret act. If you want to vamp it up for night time use you just apply more of both stages and get an effect that does look like false lashes. The other problem I had with this though is it doesn't last long at all. As the mascara is about normal size but contains 2 separate stages you get less of the black colouring, I also found the white end dried up within a couple of weeks so became useless. A mascara that only lasts a couple of weeks isn't one I'd buy regularly. The price seems to vary alot, while I was searching I came across several places that sell these for £6 or anywhere above that up to £9, I personally paid £4.50 for mine from an ebay seller and that price included p & p. I would say if you buy this shop around because it isn't going to last long. Overall on the plus side it does give lovely long, separated lashes and it is waterproof but on the downside it doesn't last long at all and can be a bit irritating to use because you have to grip the entire tube to apply it as opposed to just a wand in a cap. For long lashes with a false lash effect I recommend it but if like me you really just want a normal mascara it's not a very economical or long lasting purchase. 3 stars as it does work but 2 stars are lost for the drying up rapidly and annoying wands connected to the centre of the tube.
This mascara is not one of my favourites but does give quite a dramatic effect (just not in a good way in my opinion). I paid about £7 for this product when it came out quite a few years ago which I think was about average for a mascara at the time. I think it is expensive for what you get though because you have to apply both the black and the white every time you are not getting that much of each in the tube so it runs out a lot quicker than a normal mascara would so is not good value for money at all. The good points about it are that for a night out it makes lashes look very thick and full but generally I find it too full on for a daytime look. When I first saw this product I wanted to try it as it was something new and different and the packaging is very appealing as it comes in a black and white tube. The white end is the coat you apply first to your lashes to thicken them and the black end is to cover them. I think the bad points about it are that it is too thick and clumpy. It made my lashes stick together in clumps and therefore it looked like I did not have many eyelashes. Immediately after applying the black layer my eyelashes started flaking and looked very dry I think probably because the black coat doesn't seem very wet and so doesn't moisturise the lashes. I ended up with black bits flaking off all the time when I used this which ended up under my eyes which is not what I want at all. It also takes longer to apply than other mascaras as you have to apply the white layer then the black layer so if your in a rush it is not so good. I think this mascara makes your eyelashes look false and not in a good way so I would definately not buy it again.
I often like to try new mascara's when they first come out. As mascara has to be replaced every 3 months on average it tends to be the one make up item that you do need to replace on a regular basis. Because of this I don't really like to spend too much and usually set a limit of around £10. when I saw this for £5 I thought it was worth a try. I don't have the worst eyelashes I have ever seen, but I am always trying to find ways to improve them and make my eyes look more noticeable. A great way to do this is with a good mascara. After trying quite a few by now, I have found a few brands that I really like, but am always happy to try new ones, just in case I ever actually find one that really does make my look as though I have false lashes, a dream but hey you never know! I have tried other double-ended mascara's and this one was exactley the same. One end is a white primer that is supposed to lengthen and seperate the lashes, the other end is black and colours the lashes and adds a put more volume. Like the others I have tried in the past, this mascara just didn't work for me. It made my lashes look caked and clumpy. Wosrt of all, I kept getting little fibres in my eyes all day. It took me ages to apply, as I kept trying to seperate the lashes a bit every time they clumped but it still looked dreadful. I dont want a mascara that you can barely see, but I don't want to look cake in it. I hated this so much that I gave it away to my mum, who after a couple of uses asked me if I wanted it back, so at least I know it's not just me!
I've tried many mascaras before but was never really that impressed with any and so I decided to try Maybelline XXL Pro Volume (one of those ones with a white end and a black end!) and I have never tried another mascara after buying this one, its brilliant. I'm really fair (blonde hair, blue eyes and very pale skin) and so my eyelashes are a very light brown and I've often found it hard to find a mascara that covers up the colour of my lashes without me having to layer on the mascara until they're really thick and clumpy. The colour is really dark and so I don't need to use much to get the effect I want. The base layer of the white mascara does make a difference to the length achieved. My eyelashes are quite short and stumpy but this mascara really does lengthen my eyelashes and also thickens them. It isn't a very clumpy mascara but after a few months it does get clumpier and thicker but still I feel it lasts well. Sometimes I don't always use the white end but even with just the black I still get lovely long and thick lashes. The brush is a chunky long one meaning I can apply my mascara quickly and the results last for the whole day without me needing to reapply. This mascara is quite a reasonable price. It is not the cheapest mascara out there, but definitely isn't the most expensive. I'm willing to pay a couple of extra pound for the noticeable extra quality of this product. Lots of mascaras I've used have dried my eyelashes out but I've never had a problem with this product. It's quite hard to remove if I put a lot on, as with a lot of mascaras, but that is the only downside to this product.
The Maybelline XXL volume and lenght mascara is probably the best mascara i have ever had. After trying out lots and lots of different mascaras and having the problem of clumping and sticking my lashes together i then found the Maybelline XXL and found that IF applied correctly it does not clump and lashes dont stick and your eyelashes deffinatly look a lot longer. I cant stress enough that if you apply the white end and let it dry you lashes WILL clump i found if you apply the white end and then the black before its had time to dry you dont get clumps and the eyelash's look AMAZING. Once again Maybelline have come up with yet another Brilliant product. This will not disappoint you. At £4.99 this mascara has lasted me a very long time so it is a real bargin. I would recommend this product to anyone.
Over the years, I have tried many, many mascaras but I always go back to one from Maybelline and it is usually this one, unless sold out. After trying other brands that differ in price greatly, I found that Maybelline are somewhere in the middle but give me the best results. I first bought this specific mascara when it first came out and was on offer for about £5. I figured if it was bad then it wasn't a lot of wasted money. The XXL Pro Volume mascara has two ends unlike conventional mascaras. In one end is white mascara that claims to lengthen and give more volume to your lashes which is to be put on first. My advice would be to be careful when applying the white mascara because if you have too much on the brush, your lashes will end up clumping when putting black on them. I find that to add that special something to your lashes, a eyelash curler is a great idea before doing this. The other end is the normal black mascara. The black mascara gives your lashes colour and makes them stand out more than usual with the help of the white part. Once I finally got the hang of how much white I should be using, I was extremely happy with this mascara. I have really straight eyelashes so without the help of an eyelash curler, mascaras have normally failed to make them look any longer or curlier. Even without eyelash curler, this mascara made an instant difference and I could see a curl even before putting the black on. Once I had finished my mascara there was a clear difference. Black, curled, long and dramatic and this was only using one coat of black. If you want some extra drama then use a couple of coats but be careful again not to use too much. I use this mascara all day everyday and I have never had it flake on me. This is by far the longest lasting to a good standard mascara that I have ever owned. I feel extremely confident when I go for a night out and have used this mascara so I know I wont end up coming home looking like a panda. I sometimes wear falsies too and this mascara blends in really well so long as you only use the black side. Even though it lasts really well through the day, it is easily removable. I use Wilkinson's facial wipes to take all of my make up off and there is never any rubbing to get this mascara off. The only real downside to the XXL mascara is that you cannot achieve a natural look at all. The black is very dark and there is no chance of your eyelashes not standing out after you have used it. Now that this mascara has been available for a while now, it is available for around £8 in most Boots stores which is reasonable for what you get. After buying this I will never see the need to buy anything really expensive ever again.
I a huge Maybelline Fan and this is one of my favourite products! I have bought this mascara now for the past 6 years and although I have tried other mascara's continue to come back to this one. The mascara is made up of two parts; one white end and one black end. The white end is designed to lengthen your eye lashes and my does it work! The brush is a basic mascara brush (not one that vibrates or curves or has lots of different types of bristles), but it does apply the product nice and evenly. You have to wait for the white mascara to dry before you apply the black over the top. The black end of the mascara is for extreme volume and again it does exactly what it says on the tin. This is where you have to be careful however as the black can clump or worse it can look too thick and stick your eyelashes together. My tip here would be to make sure that you don't get too much actual mascara onto the brush. I haven't always found this to be a problem as when you take the brush from the bottle there is usually a nice sounding 'pop' that ensures against this type of thing. If however the pop hasn't worked and you get an extra blob of mascara on the end of the brush then replace the brush and try again. I usually only use the white and the black together for a night out as the effect is very stunning and can look like false lashes have been applied. For every day use I would just recommend the black end alone. The product is easy to remove at the end of the day, which some mascara's have failed on. It also does not have a tendency to run, again like some of the others have. Highly recommended and will be a staple in my make up bag for years to come!
I'm always one for trying out new mascaras that promise extra length and volume, so when I saw this Maybelline XXL I bought it. I actually bought it for almost £9 in Superdrug, but having looked on the internet, I think I was ripped off as it's much cheaper on online sites. The mascara is double-ended, with one half white and one half black. The tube promises volume and length, with the length coming from the white side and the volume being provided by the black end. There are two brushes, one in each end of the mascara tube and each side contains 5ml of liquid. You use this Maybelline XXL mascara by first applying the white liquid to your eyelashes and then applying a coat or more of the black mascara over it. So how is it to use then? It's easy enough to unscrew the mascara wands in each end and both mascaras go on evenly. I expected there to be clumps with the white mascara end but, although it looked slightly uneven, once I'd put the black mascara on over the top, it evened out. Both colours were distinctly un-clumpy, which is always a mascara plus in my book. And how did my eyelashes look when I'd finished? Well, they looked great, full of volume and longer than they did when they were naked. The mascara stayed on all night and didn't smudge and it was also quite easy to get off at the end of the night. So in all, Maybelline XXL does what it says on the tube: it gives extra volume and extra length. Which is good, but. Actually, that BUT should be in capitals, because this is a big BUT! The BUT is that the XXL mascara is good BUT it's only as good as some of the volume mascaras I've tried. And as the other volume mascaras I've tried don't involve me fiddling around with two different brushes set in either end of the tube, I think I'll stick with the other volume mascaras rather than the Maybelline XXL. Some of the others are even better than this one in fact, and that's STILL without using two separate brushes. So sorry, Maybelline, but I won't be buying this again, even if I do find it cheaper.
I moved to maybelline mascara from Bourjois coup De Theatre mascara a few years ago after the coup de theatre was a little too theatrical for work (!) and getting a little pricey. If you shop in places like Superdrug or Boots they often have offers on Maybelline mascara, from £1 off to £ for the price of 2. My first XXL maybelline mascara was a half price offer-- and I was impressed. First you apply the white end- a white allegedly conditioning layer to add some sort of scaffolding to your eyelashes, then you apply the black end- the mascara hence building up a nice long thick set of lashes. I found this product great as it does not clump. You can apply a lot and the brush is bg enough and good enough to keep your lashes nicely separated. Both ends wear out in the same time-- you will not find the white end has run out or gone dry (unless you leave the end off...) before the black end- although as a rule is it generally "useful" to buy a new mascara every six months or when it stops making a "pop" noise when you remove the brush from the mascara. This is supposed to stop you getting eye infections from old gunky products. I find this mascara good both for work (you can aply a little bit and it won;t look over the top) and also for a night out when you can take your time and apply loads of the white end then wait a bit until it dries a little the build up the layers with the black end. It give good, thick long lashes. It isnt as theatrical as Bourjois, but it is more multifunctional. These generally sell for around £5.50 and for the money it is a good buy. I've been buying this for a while now and I haven't had a bad experience using this in terms of clumping. It even withstands the odd burst of tears and some rain and washes off using a normal facewash.
You can pick up this Maybelline mascara for £3 - £5 in most good make up shops, such as boots. The mascara is split into two sections, which are 5ml each. The white section is the base coat, intended to give 'extreme length', while the black section is the top coat, which gives 'extreme volume'. The mascara is easy to apply, with two coats, one white then one black. You need to wait a few seconds for the white coat to dry before applying the black. The bristles themselves are straight and catch an adequate amount of mascara. In my opinion, the mascara gives your lashes a good look, not too overpowering as the name may suggest, so it is good for daytime use as well as night time use. Lashes come out defined, and usually not clumped together, although sometimes the mascara can leave thick clumps. I also find the mascara smudges a bit and leaves shadows under my eyes, but that may well be down to me rubbing it and not being careful enough.
I bought this mascara to create dramatic, night time looks - I can't be bothered fiddling about with false eye lashes but a girl needs to have options! It's a pretty good all rounder. It has the white "build up" fluid for you to apply before colouring your lashes (jet back.)Just to make it easy, the packaging is colour co-ordinated so you can't possibly get the ends mixed up. It's simple to use, but as mascara wands go, it's nothing fancy - it's a straight comb shape. If you're used to more sophisticated technology - (curved shapes and rubbery wands) you may be less than impressed. I'd say it was better at thickening your lashes rather than lengthening them - and although it boasts "no clumps," I don't think there is a single volumising mascara in the world that will truly be clump free. You will need to use an eyelash comb to separate the lashes and avoid a disco-dolly look. This is a pretty good mascara for a striking, made-up look, but I've also used this for daytime. If you use nothing else, and make sure your eyelashes aren't all clumpy, it emphasises your eyes without looking like you're wearing lots of gunky makeup. It lasts well and doesn't smudge, so I'd say that for just under £8, this mascara is worth investing in.
This is one of those mascara products with duo brushes and requires two steps. The packaging is compact for a duo type product. The white end screws off for the first step which is the lengthening formula. This brush is quite flexible and longer bristles. The other end of the mascara is the second step (black end) this is the thickening side of the product and builds volume. This wand is thicker and has lots of bristles to coat all of the lashes. Price is average which is fair as this is an average product. £7.99 in Boots and Superdrug. Better value I suppose if you get it on a special offer but still I'm not convinced Application is use the lengthening formula first. What I don't like is that this formula is white so your eyelashes are coated in a white substance. You can see some added length to your natural eyelashes but not a great deal. The next step is to put the black thickening volume formula on. The white formula is quite difficult to cover and I think you are left with a grey tint to your eye lashes or white flashes in your eyelashes. I was really conscious of making sure all of the white formula on my lashes was covered hence which made me apply too much of the second coat and my eyelashes looked clumpy and heavy. Taking the product off is reasonably easy and it doesn't need excess pressure with make up remover or wipes. I did find though when I removed the product my eyelashes felt like there was a greasy coating left on them. Personally I wasn't too impressed. This gives a clumpy look and I didn't think my lashes looked long and had extra volume. Generally when it comes to better mascaras because I have long lashes already my eyelashes look REALLY long when it's applied. With this one I actually didn't think that was the case and my eyelashes just looked average! Not one I would recommend.
I bought this mascara a few days ago in Melbourne, Australia for only about 10 pounds, which is a very cheap price considering how fantastic this mascara is. This mascara has two sides with different wands and a different type of mascara at each end. The white end, which you apply first, is a sort of primer. It is designed to add length to the lashes and to highlight even your smallest lashes so that they all receive coverage. The black end then adds colour and volume to the lashes. This approach creates a very dramatic and vivacious look that I love. The primer extends the lashes quite amazingly, while the black side blackens them and thickens them, leaving you with a very feminine, very sexy appearance. The big bonus with this mascara is that, unlike other mascaras of its type, it doesn't leave you with an overly clumpy really fake look.
Who will like this product: Girlies lookin for a mascara that will give your lashes an added wow factor. How much does this product cost: Not as expensive as you would think. I bought my version in Superdrug for £5.99 which is very reasonable for a Maybelline product. Product Description: This product is a double ended mascara, with 5ml of product at end end. At one end you have a white mascara which is infused with micro-fibres intended to add length to your eyelashes, at the other end you have a Coloured mascara (depending on what you choose, i like Extreme Black), which promises to add volume to your lashes. The black and white packaging is eye catching and stylish. The brushes at both end are pretty standard and the mascara smells similar to other mascaras on the market. Product Performance: First you use the white mascara, its easy to apply and you can see the micro-fibres as you layer it on to the eyelashes. Then you use the coloured end of the mascara which coats over the white mascara and volumises the rest of you lashes. This product does work but needs patience. You must make sure that your lashes are completely coated with the coloured mascara otherwise they will be white from the coat of the lengthening mascara. You must also be careful not to put too much of each mascara on your eyelashes or you will end up looking like spiders have gone to die on your eyelides- Clumpiness is never a good look. Reccomendation: I like this product as it does do what it says. However some people may feel that this product is just too fiddly to use and may prefer to just use of coat as opposed to two.
This really the queen of my cosmetic bag. I like this one very much. With two brushes, this mascara really given the best dramatic effect form my small eyes. The mascara would not only make my lash longer, but also thicker, and with a little bit eyelash curler, it would make the perfect celebrity eyes. I use this one for night make up, and party. It has two brushes. The white one is the foundation for the black one. The white one is to make the lash longer and thicker when the black one is applied in the eyelash. The shape of the brush itself is very useful to make the lash curl a little. It is indeed waterproof, but I don't know why it didn't last long in my lash. Maybe I have used it in the wrong way, but I found the curl easily come down after hours in the party. Indeed, the party only last for hours. That is why I only use this for party, or for the short usage only. The price is also affordable. For those kind of effect, this is considered cheap. I like this one, and I have one in my party cosmetic bag. It would suit best for gothic make up style.
