Advantages: Helps hold brows in place

Disadvantages: Rubbish as an actual mascara

I have been using Collection 2000's clear mascara for years and years as an eyebrow tamer, since I read an article in Shout magazine recommending it for keeping your brows in place! When I went into Boots recently and they didn't have any, I ended up getting a tube of Miss Sporty Just Clear mascara instead.

Now having stuck to one brand for so long - I'd say we're talking about 12-13 years here - I wasn't really sure what to expect from this product, but didn't think there could be a huge amount of difference between the two really.

The mascara comes in a clear tube with a white lid and a metallic blue band and writing on it. Compared to the Collection 2000 version, I much prefer this one, as the Collection 2000 one has a silver bottle of which the writing seems to wear off very quickly.

The brush on this one is quite chunky and has a good amount of bristles. As a brow gel, it goes on very easily and the brush grooms the brows as the gel begins to set them. It goes on smoothly, and I've never had little lumps of gel, as I have occasionally had with my regular brand. I have found though, that this gel is not as strong as my collection 2000 version, and I need to apply a little extra than normal to hold my brows in place.

Now I wouldn't normally use this as a mascara, but I have done a couple of times, when I've wanted to set the curl in my lashes, but not necessarily be wearing lots of make-up. The mascara claims to give natural-looking, feather light lashes and give them a natural shine. Obviously as it's clear it will not really lengthen the lashes because it's partly the colour that does that.

I find that this goes on easily, and it does lift and separate the lashes, and like I said if you've just used eyelash curlers on them it will hold the curl in place. As for looking natural, it's certainly that! You can hardly tell you have anything on your eyes at all, so if like me you have very pale lashes this is probably not for you. To be honest it's pretty disappointing as a mascara and doesn't really achieve much which is why I hardly ever use it as one, despite the fact that's what it's meant to be.

The mascara costs £2.93 from Superdrug.

Overall, I would say that this was OK as an eyebrow gel and I may buy it again if my usual brand was not available. As a mascara though, I wouldn't really bother with it.

Summary: Go for the Collection 2000 one

I recall feeling such a rebel wearing clear mascara to school in the 80s! How times change!
