Advantages: Cheap, good quality.

Disadvantages: Small size Be Connected product.

Miss Sporty is a make-up range which is aimed, primarily, at teenagers. Sold at independant chemist chains and high street giant Superdrug the products are some of the cheapest available in store with most of their products costing around £1.95. Price wise they just about match budget ranges like Collection 2000 but are considerably less than brands like Bourjois or Maybelline. The prices are an excellent lure for cash strapped teens and for older ladies (like me) looking for beauty bargains!

I have tried several products in the Miss Sporty range beginning with their jelly style lip glosses. After discovering that these were practically identical to my more expensive Rimmel lip gloss tubes I began to trust the quality of the brand. I then started to test their other products, specifically their mascaras. It has become increasingly difficult to get a mascara product for less than a fiver these days with most of the main make-up brands creating these high science formulas and sleek brush designs. Miss Sporty steal the jargon of these brands by claiming their range of mascaras can "lengthen lashes" with their "precision brush" but they charge a fraction of the price of other brand mascaras. Most of the main range mascaras cost around £3.. The cheapest mascara in the range seems to be the 'Be Connected' mascara at £1.95, which I'll be reviewing here.

The 'Be Connected' range is a innovative new idea by the brand. Products in this range include mascara, eye shadow, lip gloss, eye liner and concealer. These are produced in stick style tubes rather than pots or pallattes. The novelty of the idea is that you can plug these tubes into one another to make a double sided stick which you can pop into your handbag. You can combine any of the products in the range according to your needs. Alternatively, you can just have the seperate products without connecting them at all. When I first bought these products I found it impossible to learn how to plug them together and also found that the length of the stick when eventually connected was very long and a bit too long to carry in a small handbag!

The Be Connected Mascara comes in three colours - black, cocoa and blue. I chose the cocoa which is a dark chocolate brown colour. It is so dark that on my lashes it simply looks black although repeat applications to increase volume make this colour look less dramatic than the vampish black.

The mascara comes in a small tube with very little information about the product on the packaging. Miss Sporty do describe this as providing a "catwalk look" though and also state that the liquid formula is "ophthalmologically tested". The lid - which also doubles as a click in connector top - is easy to unscrew. The brush is approximately 3cm long and has a twisted, spiral brush design. The bristles are very soft. The mascara tends to coagulate in the brush like a thick paint. The mascara ha a fresh, clean fragrance which I find appealing.

Application is easy and creates a good look and finish. The mascara simply glides onto lashes and doesn't clog or leave any lumps. It seperates, defines lashes and lengthens them but does not increase the volume of each lash. You need to leave lashes to dry for a minute then repeat the application in order to create a more dramatic appearance.

I find that I never suffer from the dreaded 'panda eyes' when wearing this mascara. It doesn't crumble and cause grainy pieces to irritate the eyes. It is suitable for contact lens wearers like myself. It is long lasting and difficult to rub off should you touch your eyes through the day. It can be easily removed, though, with soap and water or a specific eye make-up removal oil.

I am ultimately very pleased with the Miss Sporty mascara. I do feel that the 'Be Connected' idea is quite a handy way to ensure that you never have to fumble around in your handbag for your various make-up products again. I do feel that the Miss sporty brand is acceptable and worth buying if you are a little or a lot older than a teenager!
