Advantages: Cheap, lengthens lashes a little, separates them.
Disadvantages: None for me.
A few months ago I was going out of town and wanted to take a mascara along for the day-time. I wanted a "disposable" mascara-one that was cheap and that I could even throw away after using for a few days if need be. I didn't want to take my regular mascara along in case I misplaced it or something. I did some research online before heading out, and the Miss Sporty mascaras seemed to get decent ratings. I always felt that Miss Sporty was a brand aimed mainly at teenagers who were just starting out with make-up and couldn't afford high-end make-up. Anyway, I headed over to my local Superdrug where I went through a number of budget mascaras before finally deciding on this one because of 2 main reasons:
1. It claims to be a lash defining mascara and this is what I basically needed as I was only going to use this during the day so I just needed some definition, and not a dramatic, false lash effect. However, it does state that you can also "build" your lashes "from natural to dramatic" so I thought I could use this at night too if need be.
2. It is waterproof. I wear contact lenses and my eyes sometimes water when I am applying eye make-up or when it is very windy and/or something goes into my eye. I always buy waterproof mascaras to prevent mascara from running down my face.
As I had never tried anything from the Miss Sporty range before, I was interested in seeing how this would perform.
The mascara comes in a sky blue tube. The writing on the tube is in silver and the packaging is quite simple but looks nice enough.
Everyone has different lashes and thus, different requirements from mascaras. My lashes are dark and straight, and while they are not very long and thick, they are of a reasonable length and thickness, and are definitely noticeable. I always curl my lashes before applying mascara as I feel that this makes my lashes look nicer and also makes it easier to apply mascara.
This mascara doesn't make any fancy promises-it doesn't promise to curl your lashes or make them 10 times longer or thicker. It just states that it will "define" and "build" your lashes, and I feel that while it does the former-adds definition to my lashes-it doesn't really build my lashes much to make them look more dramatic. I own this mascara in black so it does make my lashes look a little darker. The mascara wand is just an ordinary run-of-the-mill mascara wand, but works quite well and gives even coverage. You do tend to get excess mascara on the wand but I just wipe it off on a piece of tissue, so it's not really a problem. There are a number of different techniques for applying mascara, but what I do is hold the wand at the base of my lashes and then rotate the brush up through my lashes. I feel that this prevents my lashes from clumping and keeps them separated. The mascara does add a little bit of length to my lashes, and just makes them look a little more defined. It doesn't make my lashes clump, and keeps them nice and separated, which is quite important to me as I really hate lashes that are clumped together. It dries quite quickly, doesn't smudge, and once dry I have had no problems with the mascara running when my eyes have watered, so it is waterproof, but comes off easily with an eye make up remover.
Price and Availability
The mascara is available to buy from Boots, Superdrug and some chemists, and can also be bought online. It usually retails at £3.29 which I think is a reasonable price to pay for such a product, but I'm sure I must have bought it on offer as I always reach for things on offer.
If you're looking for a mascara that will give you a dramatic, false lash effect, I would not recommend this. However, if like me, you are just looking for a good daytime mascara that will just a bit of definition to your lashes and give them a bit of oomph, then I would recommend this mascara. I bought it for my holiday but I am now using this on a regular basis as it works just as well as some of the high-end mascaras, and is so affordable.
