Advantages: Lovely and sparkly colour
Disadvantages: Takes ages to remove and needs a few coats
I had heard really good things about Models Own so I bought a few of their items in a promotion that Boots were running. I was especially looking forward to trying their nail polishes as everyone had told me just how good they were but I was left feeling decidedly underwhelmed by them.
The nicest one that I got was the Disco Mix one as it looked far and away the nicest and most expensive on my nails whereas the other ones that I bought just looked cheap and nasty. The Disco Mix polish is a lovely mix of blue and purple glitter and although it sounds a little tacky it looks really nice on my nails.
The consistency of the polish is a lot thicker and gloopier than normal polish obviously considering that it has loads of glitter in it and that is probably the best thing about this polish. Some glitter nail polishes really scrimp when it comes to the amount of glitter that they put in the polish but this one had loads and it was extremely noticeable that I was wearing glitter polish when I was out.
It is quite difficult to brush on smoothly die to the glitter so it does take a little longer than normal polish to apply and make sure that you get a nice even coating. It also needs more than one coat. I found that if I was using this on its own then I needed three coats of it for it to look like my nails were fully painted. You can get around this by using an undercoat in a similar colour but I actually wanted to add a few coats as I wanted the maximum glitter effect.
I also found this seemed to take ages to dry and when it was dry it was very bitty thanks to the polish which didn't feel all that nice especially when my nail caught on my top/tights etc.
Removing the glitter was hard work too and it took a lot of rubbing and several cotton wool balls to get it off my nails. Even once I thought it was all removed I was still finding bits of glitter stuck to them for days afterwards.
The main thing is though that this looked really pretty on and it was definitely a vast improvement on the other Models Own polishes that I tried. I would definitely buy this again and would recommend it as long as you are prepared for the almost industrial remover that you are going to need as it sets like concrete.
Summary: Lovely and sparkly nail colour
