“ Brand: Models Own / Type: Nail Varnish / Subcategory: Nail Polish / Suitable for: Nails „
I had heard really good things about Models Own so I bought a few of their items in a promotion that Boots were running. I was especially looking forward to trying their nail polishes as everyone had told me just how good they were but I was left feeling decidedly underwhelmed by them.
The least favourite polish I bought in the range was the Lilac Dream one. Normally anything lilac coloured on my nails would scare me away but the colour looked so pretty in the bottle that I decided that I would buy it and see what I thought.
The biggest problem that I had with this is that you could tell it just wasn't very good quality especially compared to brands such as Barry M which are in the same price range. The polish is really thin and it took three coats before it looked acceptable on my nails. This is something which I can accept in a special polish such as the glitter ones but not something that I would expect in just a solid colour.
The colour itself also didn't look anything special once it was on my nails and it was nowhere near as pretty as it had looked in the bottle. When it had dried it looked dare I say it a little cheap and nasty and not as beautiful and delicate as it had originally looked before I applied it.
Because I disliked it so much I can't really comment on how hardwearing it is but even with the three coats it still didn't look very hard so I wouldn't have held out much hope of it lasting for a long time. One good thing about it was that removing it from my nails was an absolute breeze and it came off so smoothly and easily.
I personally really didn't like this nail polish at all. The colour wasn't what the bottle promised and I found it to be thin and cheap both in how it looked and how it felt to apply. This was by far the worst of the Models Own nail polishes that I have tried so perhaps the quality issue only affects this one but it does make me question the brand and its quality and doesn't inspire me to want to buy more to try them out.
If you do feel like trying this then it costs £5 a bottle which I think is far too expensive for this particular nail polish.
Models Own nail polishes are generally great, and Lilac Dream is one of my favourites for a number of reasons as I shall explain henceforth....
These polishes generally retail in Boots for £5 per bottle - good value, considering the excellent quality and generous size. Even better, you can often pick them up on a "3 for the price of 2" offer, which brings the price down to an extremely thrifty £3.33.
**BOTTLE & BRUSH**
The Models Own brand has distinctive white packaging and I like the modern, barrel-like design of the bottle. The lid of the bottle is fairly large and can be quite cumbersome to hold when applying the polish, although the brush is a good length and width, allowing for accurate brush-strokes.
I've found that all Models Own nail polishes I've used have been of really excellent quality. The polish adheres beautifully to the brush, which enables you to apply an even coat to each nail. Drying time is good, although I find that applying only a thin layer for the first couple of coats helps it to dry more quickly and evenly. You will need about 3 or 4 coats of this polish (depending on your preference of course), and once you've carefully painted on a few coats, you will find that the polish will appear evenly-coloured on your nails and it offers superbly shiny finish, which can be difficult to achieve outside of a nail salon.
I love this colour - a light bright pastel lilac which is bang on trend, and it gives a contemporary finishing touch to any daytime or evening look. It also looks really striking on toenails - great in summer or for holidays. The only downside is that with it being such a distinctive colour, it can clash with some other colours - personally, I found it looked a bit odd if I wore colours like red or orange, although it works really well with neutrals, yellows and blues.
WEARABILITY & DURABILITY
As mentioned above, you'll probably need to apply 3 to 4 coats for an even, glossy look but once you've applied it, Lilac Dream will stay put for at least 4 days. Unless you're doing vigorous housework or other manual chores, it generally won't chip until it's been on for 5 or 6 days - at which point, you'd probably want to refresh or change your nail polish anyway. For the price, it's one of the longest-lasting polishes I've used.
In summary, I'd give this nail polish a really good rating - the colour might not be for everyone, and it doesn't quite have the staying power of some of the manicure-standard brands, but it offers excellent value for money with a salon-style finish. Recommended!
Up until recently, I had always bit my nails and left them in a horrible condition. I decided I had to do something about it, and with all my willpower managed to grow my nails and keep them strong and healthy. Now they are in better condition, I have invested in some nail polishes to glam them up a bit and keep them looking pretty. I had previously tried out some of Models Own nail polishes before and been quite impressed, so I decided to pick one of theirs up in the lovely Lilac Dream shade.
I picked my nail varnish up from Boots, as Models Own usually has a stand in their bigger stores. I was overwhelmed with choice on offer from the brand but settled for this one. You can also browse and order some of their products online on their website. These retail for £5.00 which is okay I suppose, but when you compare it to brands such as Rimmel it can be a little expensive. Particularly if you want to build up a collection like me. If you order multiple nail polishes online, you can save yourself a bit of money to make them cheaper. Although the price is okay, it is a lot of money to spend on a nail varnish which you might not like in the end.
The bottle comes as shown in the image. Quite clear and clean and I think the simplicity of them was what stood out to me. It shows off the colour well, and I like the shape of the bottle as I find it easier to work with. Models Own have a wide range of nail polish shades and there really is something for everyone. As I am quite the pastel lover, I went for this beautiful lilac colour as I thought it would suit me well.
I have trouble applying nail polish sometimes, and often find myself getting it on my skin or making it blotchy. I found that this polish was so easy to work with and could even be used on quite short nails. There are not too many bristles, and the bristles on the brush are kept quite thin. This means you can angle the brush to get to those crevices that are hard to reach. Because the brush is so good, it spreads out across the nail and applies coats of the polish in a really neat and professional way. It is definitely one of the easiest nail polishes I have ever used, and I would recommend these for people who get messy with nail varnish easily!
The colour comes off beautifully on the nails, and I just like to use one coat of this. However, you can easily build it up for a stronger colour by using two coats. I think this is fantastic, as some cheap nail polishes require about five coats before you can get a good look. This is just simple and has a really good colour pay off in the end. Many people complimented me on the shade and asked where it was from!
I don't use a top coat or a base coat although I really should. Without using these, I found that the nail polish looked great for many days after. Obviously with a top and base coat applied, I would say this would easily last around ten or so days. The nail polish is strong and sturdy and does not tend to chip. Where I work, I am constantly using my hands, and when at home doing things like the washing up. My nails stayed in place and did not chip at all which is fantastic. The signs of a really good quality nail polish.
Overall, I am really impressed with this 'Lilac Dream' from Models Own. It gives your nails a beautiful colour, and leaves them looking like they've been done by a professional! This nail polish is great for those who struggle to keep within the lines as this will give you neat results. I would recommend Models Own in general, but this shade is just so beautiful as you can see from the image. Thanks for reading and hope it helps.
