If I could only live with one make-up item for the rest of my life then it would have to be lip gloss. I absolutely hate the feeling of my lips being dry and I genuinely feel naked without something on them. It doesn't even have to have colour as long as it is something which makes them look a bit glossy and shiny.
I tried the Models Own lip gloss as I had heard such good things about the brand and I was buying some of their nail polishes when I noticed the gloss. Never having nearly enough gloss in the house I bought some to see what it would be like.
I am happy to say that this is so much better than the nail polishes and I actually really liked it. In fact I liked it enough that I now have three in the house in different colours.
It costs £5 which is a little more expensive than some other highstreet glosses but it does feel like a premium product and I think it is worth the money.
There isn't a huge selection of colours available but the ones that are available are lovely. They are quite subtle on my lips but they do give them a definite hint of colour and when the light hits them they look really plump and the red colour especially makes them look bigger and fuller.
They are really glossy too which may sound silly when talking about a product called gloss but some of the cheaper glosses aren't very glossy at all and only give a slight sheen. These give me a real hit of shine and gloss.
They are quite long lasting too but like most glosses don't expect them to withstand eating and drinking as they will come off on glasses etc. If you put the gloss on in the morning though it will last until lunch time and then after you have eaten you can reapply and it will last well until you get home.
I am surprised I like these so much as I normally like a brighter more vivid colour when it comes to my glosses but these are just so nice and the colours may not be very vivid but they are really lovely so I can overlook the fact that they aren't too bright.
If you've read my previous beauty reviews you will know I love getting a bargain or being able able to try a beauty product for free and this is how I came across this lipgloss from Models own.
This lip gloss was exclusively designed for Coca Cola and a few months ago Boots were running a promotion that if you bought two bottles of Coca Cola you got this lipgloss free. Well, that was like a double bonus for me, I love Coca Cola and I love lipgloss's so it's like getting two gifts. There were a number of different pink and red shades to choose from but by the time I got around to purchasing it there was only a darkish red shade left called pure plum which was fine for me as I like darker shades like this anyway.
The lipgloss comes in a small 15ml squeezable plastic tube. The tube is see through so you can see the colour inside which is nice. What I really liked about the look of this colour is that it seemed to have goldish sparkles in it too so I thought it would look quite nice when applied to my lips.
The tube has a small screw top lid and when you take that off the lipgloss is squeezed through a little hole in the plastic applicator tip on the tube itself. This plastic tip is at an angle so it makes it really easy to apply to your lips and I find this gloss goes on really smooth and easily and you don't need to squeeze much out to get a nice coverage on your lips.
When the lipgloss was new in my opinion it was a bit watery and it took a while for the actual coloured gloss to be squeezed through but after a few applications you got nice colour. The gloss is not sticky which is nice but give a gorgeous shine and does stay for quite a while. One thing I was upset about was that this lipgloss did not smell or taste like diet coke, how nice would that have been.
All in all a nice lipgloss. For more information about the different Models own lipgloss colours you can get visit: www.modelsownit.com.
I came across the Models Own range as the brand was being mentioned on a few of the beauty blogs that I like to read. After looking them up and coming across a 50% off sale I thought they would be worth a try and snagged a few bargainous pretty things. I was taken by this Lip Gloss as it had some bold colour choices and looked like it would be fun to experiment with. You can purchase Models Own make-up from Boots, www.asos.com, or directly from their online store at www.modelsownit.com.
This lip gloss is part of the Lips range and comes in a choice of 11 different shades including pastels and brights. It costs just £5.00 for a 15ml lip gloss tube. You can view the shades by looking at the colour swatches or view supersized images of the finished product. I selected the shade Ice Blue, as this is the first time I've seen a blue lip gloss and I thought it looked amazing! Very different and nice for standing out from the crowd.
Models Own say: "Superboost your kissability! Squeezy tubes of professional formula lipgloss in 11 pout-perfect shades. Dare to become diva delicious in Red Hot; transform into every guys dream in Tangerine; sharpen your fashion fangs in Black Goth."
This Lip Gloss comes in a plastic squeezy tube which is see through, allowing you to easily see how much product you have left. The applicator is a slanted tip with a small hole in it that forms the end of the tube, and is protected by a screw on lid.
To use, you simple squeeze the end of the tub, allowing a small amount of product to come through the hole on the applicator tip. Then spread the gloss evenly over your lips, and get ready to pout!
I selected this gloss in the shade Ice Blue, which is exactly how it sounds, a pale icy blue colour. It has a soft cool tone to it, although when I put the Lip Gloss on it didn't show up that much over the natural pink colour of my lips. I tried applying a beige lipstick underneath as a base but again the level of colour did not amount to much so I don't think the pigment is very dense within the Lip Gloss formulation. The gloss also contains a large sprinkling of glitter so this is definitely a fun piece of make-up that would work for a creative statement look.
The slanted tip gives a smooth and even application, and allows you to sweep the colour evenly over your lips to get a full coverage. The tube packaging is really handy to carry around for on-the-go touch ups as it is small and practical, and really easy to use without fiddling with brushed or wand applicators. The gloss is very smooth and feels nice on the lips without being sticky. My lips do tend to dry out a little after wearing this though so I keep my trusty lip balm on stand by. The gloss has a sort of a waxy taste to it which is quite unpleasant so be careful not to get it in your mouth or lick it off by accident!
This Lip Gloss really does give a gorgeous glossy shine, but it's prone to wearing off throughout the day and does not last after you have had something to eat or drink.
I think this is an ok product that gives a nice glossy shine to your lips and is easy to apply. I like the unusual colour but am a little disappointed that it is not as bold as I had expected it to be when applied. I have been happy enough with the results but it's not anything I would rush to buy again. I am tempted by the Goth Black shade though...!
