Advantages: Works really well, doesn't make lips glossy
Disadvantages: Expensive and could do with lasting longer before rubbing off
I have been a fan of Molton Brown for ages. They sell expensive products but I like the fact that everything is made with the highest quality ingredients and the products usually do what they say they are going to. I do think some of their products are better than others such as the shower gels usually being better than the aftershaves but even with the aftershaves they have scents which aren't really available in other aftershaves.
Their vitamin lip saver is vastly overpriced but it is one of the few lip balms which actually really work to soothe my lips when they are cracked and sore.
For the grand price of £12 you get a little 15ml tube of lipsaver but as you only need a tiny amount each time you use it the tube should last for ages even if you are using it every day. You can also sometimes find it in a 7.5ml travel size which is better value at around £5.
The lipsaver comes in a discrete plastic tube which is a light gold/green colour and has the Molton Brown name on it. This is actually advertised on their website as a man's lip balm and I do think it is good for men as it is pretty discrete and you apply it with your finger so there is no chance of anyone thinking you are standing around applying lipstick like with some such as chapstick. I'm not sure why it seems to be aimed solely at men however as it is clearly something which could easily be used by both sexes.
The lipsaver contains French honey and bees wax as well as vitamin E. When you squeeze a little out of the tube on to your finger to apply the balm is clear and unscented. It does have a really thick and sticky quality to it and I originally was worried when I first tried it that it was going to be glossy which for a man isn't the look I was going for as I only wanted something that was going to take away the dryness and flakiness caused by a combination of cold weather and central heating. I needn't have worried however as although it gives a little bit of shine it is quite subtle and nothing to be worried about and would never be mistaken for anything other than some lip balm.
The balm gives an immediate relief from chapped and sore lips and you can feel it soothing as soon as you apply it. Unlike a lot of balms that just sooth the effects of dryness this one actually works to penetrate the dermis of your lips and heal them from the inside. After using it for a couple of days I could really notice the improvement in the condition of the skin on my lips. They were no longer as dry and I wasn't getting a lot of flaking and chapping and they just generally felt a lot softer and I no longer looked as though I was suffering from the plague with bits of skin hanging off. It also works really well to leave a slight layer of balm on the top layer of my lips to protect them from harsh weather conditions and stop them from becoming dried out again.
I love the fact that this feels heavy and rich on my lips without making them glossy and shiny. I love Carmex for sore chapped lips but with Carmex my lips always look as though I am wearing lip gloss so I can only really wear it in the house whereas with this I can apply it and go out without worrying about it.
I have also been really impressed with how well it works too. It really does seem to work deep down to make my lips in better condition meaning that after a few days of use I no longer have to use it as often as my lips are feeling less dry from the inside.
The one thing which I do think is a bit of a disappointment with it is the fact that when it is n my lips it seems to rub off quickly and easily and I have to reapply more often than I would like. As it is so expensive I would expect it to be more long lasting but I suppose since I only need a little bit at a time this is more of a slight irk than a major inconvenience. If you are looking for a really good lip balm that isn't going to make lips glossy and shiny then this is a really good option as it works really well and does leave lips in better condition.
Summary: A really good but expensive lip balm from Molton Brown
