Advantages: good value, cheap
Disadvantages: boring packaging
A few weeks ago I was going on a night out, and convinced myself that I needed silver eyeshadow. Why I have no idea, but all I knew was that I had to get some straight away. On arriving at Boots (where else?) it seemed that I was not the only person who had needed silver eyeshadow recently as virtually every brand (every one in my price range anyway!) had sold out of it. There was literally one in the entire shop from the collection 2000 range, so I grabbed it before anyone else could and headed to the checkout.
~Packaging~
This comes in a little dark blue box, with a clear window through which you can see the colour of the product and simply has 'collection 2000' written on it in silver lettering. When you open the compact you will see that the actual palette of eyeshadow is quite big - you certainly get a lot for your money. There is also a very small blue applicator sponge included with this too.
~Application~
I usually use a proper eyeshadow brush to apply eyeshadow, but I decided to try it with the applicator they had supplied first. I found that as the applicator had an angled tip it was quite good for getting into the corners of my eyes, and the powder glided on easily. The colour was quite intense even with just a small amount of product, and it was at this point I was thinking - 'Silver eyeshadow? What the hell were you thinking woman?!' Yes the silver did look a bit ridiculous I have to admit, but I decided to give it a go and applied it to the other lid too.
~Results~
Well as I said silver is definitely not my colour! Not on my eyes anyway. The colour was very strong and intense and the shadow does contain a lot of shimmer, so my eyes were looking very sparkly indeed. I decided to leave it on and wear it round the house for a bit in the hope that I would get used to it!
The longer I wore the colour - which they call 'Manic Mercury' the more I hated it, but I was surprised that the stuff actually lasted several hours without coming off. For such a cheap brand I had pretty much expected to be re-applying it every hour or so, but this stuff lasted ages.
~Price~
This cost £1.99 from Boots and is also sold in Superdrug.
~Overall Verdict~
Well given my daft choice of colour, I don't see myself wearing this again. However, I have been really surprised by the staying power of this stuff, so I would definitely try it again in the future, just in a more sensible colour next time. For £1.99 it's an absolute bargain, and I was also surprised at how good an application I got using the free sponge applicator.
Summary: cheap eyeshadow that actually lasts well
