Advantages: Packaging..

Disadvantages: Quality, consistency, almost everything about it!

I recently decided to try the Make Up Academy professional eye primer & really liked it - I was pleasantly suprised by the quality, which is why I decided to buy the face primer while in Superdrug last weekend.

This retails at £4.00 per 27ml which doesn't seem that cheap but compared to the primer that I usually use it seemed like a bargain. Well, it would be a bargain if it was actually any good, but it's not and it will be going in the bin once I've finished my review! The primer is only available from Superdrug and it can be purchased online or instore. The packaging is pretty much identical to the MUA professional foundation - a squeezy tube which stands on its lid.

The tube is nice and simple - black with white writing and in my opinion the packaging is pretty expensive looking. To get the product out I simply squeeze the tube and it dispenses a blob. The first time I used it a small blob came out but everytime since, loads has squirted out at once for some reason and there's no way of getting it back into the tube which means that a lot of product goes to waste. Using the primer is simple. On the couple of ocassions that I used it I massaged it onto my (completely make-up free) face after washing it.

I have quite dry skin and despite the waterry texture found that it kind of blobbed up and went a little gel-like and sticky, especially on my (really dry) t zone. The colour of the primer is white but when on the skin it's completely clear so it doesn't leave white streaks or anything. It reminds me (texture wise) of E45 cream but runnier with a weird almost gel-like consistency which in my opinion is not a great base for foundation - especially liquid foundation, which pretty much slipped off of my face after under an hour when I used it with this.

I've got dry skin and this made it look oily, so I dread to think what it will look like on greasy skin. The primer made my skin look unattractively shiny and although the whole aim of it is to make the skin smoother so that foundation looks better, I found that my foundation actually took longer to throroughly apply and blend, even after waiting several minutes for the primer to dry. Once my foundation was applied I can't say that it looked any better and the shine/greasiness kind of seeped through. It just looked really ugly!! It did not make my foundation last longer, either.

Overall, I don't recommend this primer. It's poor quality, greasy & a total waste of £4.00. I give it one out of five stars.
