MUA Glitter Eyeliner
Advantages: very cheap, sharpener included, doesn't irritate my eyes, nice colour
Disadvantages: feels a little heavy, not longlasting
MUA (Make up Academy) is a budget brand of make up available in Superdrug stores.
~Glitter Eye liner~
MUA offer a few different eye liner products. There are two types of glitter eye liner on offer - a liquid liner and a pencil eye liner. I will be discussing the pencil eye liner.
MUA claim that this eye liner offers 'intense glitter'. There are a few shades available but I chose 'Starry Night'. What we have here is a standard eye liner pencil which is black in colour. The lid is clear and there is a small shapening tool at the side. It is worth noting that the ingredients list on the pencil states that this eye liner includes bees wax and cocoa butter. Each eye liner has a 6 month shelf life from the time of opening.
~Price and Availability~
This eye liner can be purchased from your local Superdrug store priced at £1.00.
I am a big fan of this budget brand and have a lot of MUA products in my make up box. They are ideal for those who want to wear make up but do not want to spend a great deal of money. I bought my glitter eye liner around 2 months ago as part of a 3 for 2 promotion - bargain! I normally stick with regular eye liners but thought this would be ideal for nights out/away.
The pencil is long and thin. It is easy to hold and doesn't look overly cheap. The sharpening tool is very easy to use by twisting the pencil around inside the lid. I do prefer my No7 sharpener but it is quite cool that this is included given the price of the eye liner! The shade of this eye liner is black with noticeable speckles of glitter through it. It does resemble a starry sky hence the name and this colour suits me fine.
Despite this eye liner containing glitter, I have used it during the day as well as in the evening if I am going out somewhere. The eye liner is very easy to apply as it has a smooth and creamy texture. I only need to sweep it across my waterline the once to create a distinguished line of colour. I have used glitter pencils in the past and have always felt that my eye area is a little irritated by the glitter. Whilst I feel this eye liner is a little heavier on my waterline than regular eye liners, it doesn't irritate or feel uncomfortable and there is no glittery particles coating my eye balls!
The colour transfer from this eye liner is quite good. A dark line is created with a subtle hint of sparkle which I like - it isn't over the top of nasty looking. I do feel this eye liner is let down by staying power. Whilst the line of colour is definitely noticeable at the time of application, it starts to fade very quickly (a few hours and its gone) which is disappointing and this alone puts me off using this eye liner unless for very short periouds of time. It doesn't smudge or flake which is good though and any traces are easily removed with some eye make up remover lotion or a baby wipe.
I have sharpened my pencil a few times and the actual pencil appears to be of a good quality as it hasn't become damaged. I always follow the advice and throw away pencils after the 6 month mark and I do not think I could use this full pencil in that space of time. It is a good eye liner for low cost and is ideal for a touch of sparkle on a night out as long as you do not mind reapplying it! It isn't my favourite by a long short - I prefer No7 or Clarins.
4 stars from me.
Thanks for reading :)
