MUA Professional Matte Foundation
Advantages: The price
Disadvantages: It doesnt stay matte, goes blotchy after a few hours
As you may see from previous reviews I have recently been trying different items in the MUA (Make Up Academy) range, and so far I have been extremely pleased with them. Because of the success I have been having with the MUA mascara, eye liner, lip gloss and pressed powder I decided to give they Matte Foundation a try, the foundation I usually buy is quite expensive, although it does last a long while, however I thought that if the MUA Matte Foundation was as good as the rest of the range then I could save myself some money, however when I have tried cheaper foundations in the past I have never really got on that well with them.
The MUA Matte Foundation comes in a squeezy back plastic tube, it has a large black plastic lid on one end which simply screws on and off of the tube, this is also flat allowing you to stand the tube up. The name MUA Make Up Academy is written at the top of the tube in silver writing with the name Matte Foundation written about half way down. Towards the bottom of the tube is an oval shape in the same colour of the foundation with the shade number written inside. The back of the tube has a small amount of information about the product written on it and the ingredients, there really isn't a huge amount of detail on the packaging and it is quite basic, however this didn't really bother me as long as the foundation did its job.
Normally I use a mousse foundation, however the MUA Matte Foundation is a liquid so is a totally different consistency to what I am use to. When I squeezed a small amount of the foundation out of the tube it was quite runny, although not so much that is ran straight off of your finger, it is a light peachy colour and has no fragrance to it at all. I tested a small amount of the foundation on my hand in order to get the right shade and I noticed that the foundation felt silky smooth and not greasy at all so I was hopeful that this is how it would feel on my face. This foundation is described as having a creamy texture which blends for the perfect velvet finish and matt complexion, the foundation certainly felt creamy and smooth when I tested it on my hand. This foundation comes in 3 shades including
* Shade 1 Soft Sand
* Shade 2 Honeycomb
* Shade 3 Gentle Fawn
I went for Shade 2 Honeycomb when I purchased mine as this seemed to be the ideal colour to compliment my skin tone and the shade of pressed powder I wear. There is not a large range of shades to choose from so if your skin tone does not suit the 3 that are available then this range would not be for you, the Soft Sand is quite light but if you have quite dark skin then the darkest shade may not be dark enough, in my opinion there needs to be a few more shades to choose from in order for the range to suit everyone.
Price and Availability
MUA Matte Foundation is available in Superdurg and the 30ml tube which I purchased cost me just £2.00, this is extremely cheap compared to my regular foundation, and it was this cheap price that made me question how good it was actually going to be, however if it did turn out to be of a good quality I would have saved myself a lot of money.
I applied my MUA Matte Foundation in the usually way applying it evenly over my face before applying my pressed powder, my usual routine with my regular foundation. Once all of my make up was applied I was pleased with how my skin looked, the foundation as promised gave a matte finish and an even coverage, my skin looked smooth and flawless so to start with I was pleased with it, it also left my skin feeling smooth and it did not feel greasy or oily at all. However by lunch time I noticed that the foundation was starting to look a little patchy in places, by the end of the day the foundation looked terrible, I was left with dark patches all over my face and my skin felt greasy and looked shiny and oily, not the matte finish that was promised, I was glad that the first day I tried it I stayed in and didn't go out. I wondered if it was just how I applied it so I gave it a few more tries, however the same thing happened everyday, by the afternoon I had dark oily patches on my face, even my husband asked what was going on with my foundation it was that bad.
Whilst I have been pleased with other products in the MUA range I have gone back to my regular foundation and will not be using this one again, this is definitely not a product I would recommend.
Summary: I wont be buying it again
