I discovered this mascara at the same time as the brilliant face powder I wrote about in my previous review, and after having such good results with the powder, was really hoping to get the same from this product.
As with the powder, the mascara is also being sold for just £1. I do tend to be a bit precious with my eyes, I love my lashes and tend to stick to what I know best, but thought I would give this a try.
The mascara comes in a plain black tube, with MUA waterproof mascara written in small writing down the length of it, with a thin blue ring around the bottom of the tube. I noticed the tube is about an inch or so smaller than most bog standard tubes, but for £1 you cant complain! As with the majority of mascaras, the top unscrews and the mascara wand is attached to the lid. The wand is nothing special, it isn't curvy or made of any magic bristles, it is just a plain, rounded black bristle wand.
On pulling out the wand, I noticed it was coated in mascara nicely, the wand was not overloaded with excess that needed wiping off, which is something I look for, as I hate the neck of the tube becoming clogged with clumpy dried up bits! I applied the mascara to my eye lashes and found the bristles to be lovely and soft. I swept the wand over my lashes twice, and found this gave them a good coating, and enough for them to look good, fuller and darker, but not over the top for wearing during the day. I tend to apply mascara more heavily for a night out, and unless I coated them about five or six times with this one, I am not sure it would suffice for that heavier look. But for wearing during the day I found it perfect.
My days are usually long, so I need a good masacara that wont irritate or feel heavy, and this one fels so light to wear i often forget I have it on, which actually isnt a good thing! A few days ago I totally forgot it was on and rubbed my eyes, and straight away noticed black smudges on my hands. Looking in the mirror, I realised I now resembled a giant panda and had black smudges all down my face!
This also failed on the waterproof factor as well. Washing my hair with it on didnt prove great, leaving me with black streaks down my face, but I thought maybe getting soaked was unfair to judge on, till yesterday when, while watching a sad film, I shed a tear or two. Thinking I had gotten away with it, my husband pointed out he knew I had cried as the mascara streaks gave it away! Great!
Removing it is also a bit of a pain. I have used the same make up remover wipes for years, and have never had a problem removing any of my make up, until now. After wiping my eyes, I get the panda eyes again, and find I really need to rub hard at this to fully remove it, and I still wake up the next morning with faint black tell tale smudges under my eyes. It comes off my lashes easy enough, it just manages to get on my skin and makes me look like I have huge bags under my eyes!
It is a shame, because it does look great on, and whereas my MUA powder has become a firm favourite, I wont be buying any more of this mascara!
