OUT THE DOOR TOPCOAT
I love to see my nails cared for and painted so generally attend to this twice a week, and treat myself to a manicure every couple of months when my hairdresser comes to colour my hair. Having ME means that doing a manicure myself is quite a chore because I get tired so easily doing anything that requires concentration, and so having a manicure that lasts more than just a couple of days is very important to me.
How long a manicure lasts seems to me to be related to a number of things not least of which is what you do after your manicure! My hairdresser has a slogan which says "jewels not tools!" meaning that we should not use our nails as tools during the day for any purpose. However this isn't practical for most people, and housework generally is the number one enemy as far as nails are concerned as is gardening. The other factors that heavily influence the longevity of a manicure are, I feel, related to the quality of the polish and the top coat that you choose since both are equally important. It is easy to test this out because if you use a high quality nail varnish remover you will still find more difficulty removing OPI polish, for example, especially if you have used a high quality top coat.
Choosing a top coat has been something that has interested me for some years and I have tried many on the market. Up until recently one shone out as far as providing longevity was concerned, and that was the Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat. This really is a high quality product, but it has a hefty price tag of £12, which is something that made me shudder at every purchase, even though it gave and still does give outstanding results. It performs so much better than Orly top coats for example, which are average as far as my experience goes. Enter- Out the Door!
One day I was watching a YouTube video in which a lady was praising the qualities of an inexpensive top coat called - Out the Door. I loved the name instantly because there really is nothing worse than painting your nails and then having to rush somewhere when they are not quite dry. The Kensington top coat I mentioned is fantastic in this respect as it can be applied straight after polish, and it sets hard in less than 2 minutes. I wanted something with comparable qualities for less financial outlay, and this video seemed to be saying that this was the case with Out The Door, which is apparently now one of America's best selling top coats.
I thought there might be a problem in sourcing this but Amazon are excellent if you want anything that is made for the American market, as their links with Amazon.com mean that it is often easy to find it in the UK listings. Sure enough I found it straight away for the price of £3.34 with £3.52 delivery from a seller called Cosmetic Solutions Inc. I placed my order straight away, and within a few days the product arrived postmarked from the US.
The bottle is a nice sturdy shape and the brush supplied is of good quality and does not shed. What I really like about this product is that it is quite a thin consistency, and over time it does not seem to thicken at all and has remained easy to use throughout. You can apply to newly painted wet nails and within 45 seconds it dries to a lovely high shine finish. I would say within 2 minutes you are fine to go out, which is the same performance easily as the Nails Inc Kensington Top Coat, and outshines the Orly product which still requires half an hour to fully harden.
Furthermore it is the longevity of the manicure which really impresses me. Last weekend I painted my nails on Friday using one of my favourite OPI polishes- Dusk Over Cairo- it's a lovely peachy brown. I then applied a coat of Out the Door which was very necessary as I was about to leave for the weekend. Today almost a week later the polish remains unchipped and in good condition despite many household chores being completed. As I was also helping my daughter to move house last weekend they were subjected to quite a challenge so this top coat really stood the test on this occasion! I have been using this product for months now and would not re-purchase the more expensive top coat again. I will use Out the Door as my only top coat from now on, and will stock up next time I am in The States where I am sure this will be available very inexpensively.
I always like to take a look over on Makeupalley.com where reviewers give their honest opinions about beauty products. This top coat gains a 4 out of 5 from contributors with 73% saying that they would re-purchase, this is a high score over there as reviewers are discerning and don't give high scores lightly.
I highly recommend this top quality product that scores highly in all aspects - it dries very quickly indeed setting the polish to a hard high shine finish that lasts and lasts.
Hands down, the best top coat in existence. Dries fast, dries hard, dries shiny, makes your polish last for days and days. I wouldn't use anything else.
