I love to paint my nails but I only ever seem to wear a really deep rich red whenever I am going out, and harly ever just for work. I have used this lovely nail polish by Nails Inc called Tate over the Christmas period because I thinki it looks really glamorous and it was the perfect colour choice for my girl's night out with my work colleagues and then again on Christmas Eve when I went out with my husband and also (obviously) for our New Years Eve gathering at our house.
I love Nails Inc nail polishes anyway and I have sued a lot of their shades. I think the quality is second to none and the polish itself lasts for ages on my nails, without any chipping. I always manage to get to day five before the first signs of chipping start to show with any Nails Inc polishes, and I actually consider that to be really very good.
The fist time I used this particular nail polish, I made the mistake of not using a base coat underneath and the result was pretty horrendous when I went to remove it. Every one of my nails was stained a cherry red colour and no matter what I did, it just wouldn't come off. The next time I used this colour, I made absolutely sure that I used a good quality base coat underneath. Using the base coat not only protects my nails from staining, but in my opinion, it also helps to make the actual nail polish last so much longer.
As this colour has a lovely glossy sheen to it, there is really no need to have to use a topcoat. I know it's meant to make the nail polish last longer if you do, but really, in my experience, there is no need with a Nails Inc polish as they last for ages anyway, and that's why I love them so much.
The brush is a good size and holds the right amount of polish to be able to cover each nail affectively. The polish dries pretty quickly, considering the polish is on the thick side and the final result is just a fantastic set of professional looking, high sheen red polished nails. My nails are medium length but I also think that this polish would look great on anyone with shorter nails (and even better on longer ones).
Each bottle costs £11, which is know is quite a lot to pay but I'd far rather pay more and have it last longer, than pay only a few pounds and have it chip off after only twenty-four hours.
Being a lover of nail varnishes but usually sticking to brands that I know, so that I am not dissapointed by results I was really happy to see that a Nails INC varnish in Tate had been included with my Marchs GlossyBox subscription which was themed around Travelling (and included make up which seemed to be all themed around the colour red that month!). I first noticed the brand months ago in Boots and liked the selection they had to offer in terms of effects - such as sparkly, crackle and bright bold colours... however at over £10 for just one bottle it was more than I was used to spending on the likes of other brands like Rimmel and this is the reason I hadnt endulged before. The reason I subscribe to GlossyBox is to recieve decent test sizes of other big brand products that I wouldnt otherwise look at or buy and if I like the results I have more of a push to go out and buy the full size!
So in the shops the general size of Nail INC varnishes is 10ml but in the GlossyBox you get a cute little 4ml which is a handy little size for slipping into your handbag to do top ups. I think generally the bottle looks great, as its a cylinder size bottle and the twisty lid is the same thickness which is unusual compared to other varnishes I have tried... however because the lid is thicker it can be application a bit trickier to apply to your nails... You are advised on the front of the bottle on a sticker this comes from the Nails INC range and the shade "Tate" is on a seperate sticker on the base of the bottle. The bottle is made out of glass which is transparent to show the varnish colour inside and the lid is made from what is thought at first glance to be a well made plastic which is silver in colour - attached under the lid is the varnish brush which like the lid is quite thick but benefits applying to your nails. At first glance the red colour in the bottle is very bright and due to the high price you pay for it in the shops you have high expectations that this stuff will be decent.
On application I was very happy to see that the colour becomes out very bold on your nails and there really isnt any need for a second coat unlike other varnishes. The colour is the boldest red you can imagine with nail varnishes. Using on its own without a protective coating it has the potencial to last anywhere between 2-4 days depending on what you are doing which in my opinion is really good. Colour-wise, and how long it lasts is really where the good things stop when it comes to this...
The first thing I picked up on around 3 weeks after I first used the varnish was how bad the quality of the lid is - the silver was too easily scratched off for my liking and went very scruffy looking very quickly. The second thing that went wrong was the brush which was attached to the inside of the lid fell off and went into the bottle of varnish - and as you can imagine was quite messy and covered a lot of my hands in varnish. I did manage to re-attach the brush to the inside of the lid but I wasnt very confident this wouldnt happen again. The third thing that went wrong for me which ended up with me throwing the varnish into the bin was because of how dry and un-usable the varnish had become - with under 2 month of use from me. The lid had always been secured properly and as tight as possible to avoid this from happening and there was plenty of product left in the bottle so was not just the rubbish dregs that you normally see left in the bottom of a bottle. For me, if you are going to spend all this money on a varnish you would expect the packaging to be made decently and certainly not fall apart after less than 2 months of use especially when its expected by the manufacturer to last a lot longer. Its also dissapointing for me that there is plenty of other reviews for Nails INC and not one of them mentions just how shabby they are made. In all if you have the money to throw around and get a great colour but not too bothered ahout the quality of the bottle then this stuff is for you - but for me its a complete let down and will not be buying a full size version in the future.
Currently you can buy Nails INC in Tate in Boots for £11 for 10ml.
WHAT IS IT?
Red nail polish by Nails Inc. It is called Tate after the Tate gallery in London.
Tate is a very beautiful deep red that I think is classic but very modern also. It is quite shiny but I like to use a gloss top coat over it because it is not as shiny as I would like it to be and I think it goes dull when you have been wearing it for over a day.
I always use a base under this nail polish because of it being so bright red and I am scared that it will stain my nails. I think that is a good habit to do with any nail polish because it protects your nails and helps for the colour to last for longer also. The brush is very easy to handle and I think Nails Inc polishes are the easiest to use because of the brush. I can paint my nails very quickly when I use this polish because the brush holds enough polish to do one nail complete without having to put the brush back into the bottle.
WHAT I THINK
I think this is a very beautiful red and it is one of my favourites because the shade has got a cherry tone that would suit every one. This polish is sexy red but more ladies can use it than would wear very bright red colours. It looks very good when you paint alternative nails with Tate and black polish and that is a good look for a night out.
It does not chip very easy and I think it could be worn for many days without it looking old. I have worn it for 3 days at a time and I have never had a chip happen or the polish has never started to peel even though I use a lot of chemicals in my work and they can effect my nail colours sometimes.
It dries quite quick and that is a shock sometimes because the polish is very thick and I am always surprised by how fast it dries. You have to apply 2 coats of this nail polish because the first one always will look patchy but after the second coat the colour goes even and a lot deeper.
I remove it with nail polish remover and it comes off very easy with cotton wool, I do not have to soak my nails and just apply a little bit of pressure so that it will all come off in one try.
Tate by Nails Inc costs £11 and I think that is value because it is a quality nail polish. The only disadvantage is that the nail polish is so thick that a bottle does not last for very long because I think you use a lot for each application.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
This is a review of the Nails Inc shade Tate which is a deep red colour. Nails Inc name all their products after streets and places in London which is a lovely touch I think for a UK company. I received Tate in a box gift set at Christmas and welcomed it to my substantial Nails Inc collection with open arms. I love red varnish as I think it is a classic nail colour that works well on nice fingernails and toes.
I used a base coat of Nails Inc Caviar polish and then applied a coat of Tate. I think it looked OK as one coat but there was a small amount of uneven colour on my middle finger so I went for another coat which evened things out. The polish applies thickly and quite neatly. I finished off with a top coat of Caviar which is quick drying so you can move on to your next activity pretty quickly. Removing the varnish was easy and as I had used a base coat, it didn't stain the nail at all.
I loved this deep red colour which borders on a deep red oxblood in my mind. I tarted up the manicure the next day with some 3D glitter polish which went very well with this colour (came in the same set) and created a hugely different effect. I love wearing St James Street red by Nails Inc but I feel Tate makes a nice change and also looks very different on the nails, more vampy I think.
Nails Inc charge £11 for a single polish but have an offer on at the moment where you can get three for £22 which sounds a lot but the polishes are truly brilliant. You can also buy the sets on QVC so could look out for this colour if you see them selling Nails Inc on that channel.
This is a really dark colour and works well on long or short (neat) nails. I was gutted the second day of this manicure because I went down a slide at a play centre and came off it with a seriously broken index finger nail so that one is short and sweet now! This shade, Tate really is a super colour which looks stunning and is ideal for winter. I enjoyed using the colour and being creative with some glitter to get a new and different look. Whilst it is expensive, Nails Inc remains my favourite nail polish and takes some beating in my opinion. I will tell my husband that I am happy to receive further gift sets from this brand!
Nails Inc. Tate Polish / Tate Nail Polish is a classic red red shade / Tate will bring sophistication to any look.
