I do not often buy make up from NARS because their make up products tend to be a little pricey as they are high end. They are well know on for being great quality though despite the price. I recently bought a few items from their for the first time, one of them being this nars eyeshadow due. I tend to lean more towards cheaper drugstore brand which are more affordable but decided to treat myself to something a little more expensive. I think this is a great first buy from NARS as they are good quality, highly pigmented and you are bound to wear them a lot.
Since buying this eye shadow I have loved wearing it. You can definitely tell the difference is look and quality of nars eye shadows compared to cheaper ones which do not look as professional. This due looks great while worn together or with other nars eye shadows. Nars has a huge variety of shades available in their eye shadows. I only own a few in pretty neutral shades though because I never really wear bright colours of eye shadow. These eye shadows have good pigmentation which lasts a long time, especially if you wear a primer. The formulation of their eye shadows is great, they are very soft and nicely pigmented. The packaging is nice but does get dirty with make up very easily especially when thrown into a make up bag.
I will admit, I have a make up obsession! I absolutely love eyeshadows and I had read lots of really positive reviews about the brand Nars. This brand is pretty pricey and I have so much make up, I tried to restrain myself from buying anything from them! However, when I was browsing ebay I noticed someone selling the Alhambra duo, brand new. I am always wary buying make up from ebay as many people sell fakes as big brand names. However, the price was too good to resist and the buyer promised me a return if I wasn't happy with the product.
From the moment this arrived I knew I was going to love it. The product arrived in a black cardboard box with NARS printed on it in white text and some product information on the back. The actual product itself comes in a thin compact, with the Nars logo printed onto the top. Although the design is simple, it is very appealing and I think it looks very modern and expensive.
The material used for the outside of this product automatically feels luxurious, it is soft yet durable plastic. The inside of the compact has a mirror which is the size of the whole lid. This is very useful because it is actually big enough to see your whole eye, which makes it a lot easier to apply eyeshadow! The eyeshadows themselves are set into a plastic tray and come with a protective piece of plastic on them. I would recommend keeping this piece of plastic as it really helps protect the eyeshadow. This plastic also stops any eyeshadow getting onto the mirror which is very useful if you plan to use the mirror to apply the eyeshadow as you don't have to keep wiping it clean.
The size of this compact eyeshadow duo is one of the things I like most about the packaging. It is extremely thin and the overall size of it is small. It could easily fit into a handbag and doesn't take up much room to store (particularly good for someone like me with loads of make up!). What I really like however, is that this product have vast expanses of plastic. When you open up the compact the majority of the shape is taken up my the actual eyeshadow. This is a really great feature for me because I get very infuriated when products have lots of packaging, only for the actual product to be very small.
The duo I brought was called Alhambra and it contains one Champagne colour with a pinkish tint and one golden colour. Both shades are very neutral and could be worn on a day to day basis. I wear mine everyday to my work. The two shades are both gorgeous and they work well separately or together to create a more dynamic effect. Both colours are fairly shimmery but they have a strong enough colour pigment that the shimmer is not overwhelming when applied to the eyelids. The formula of these eyeshadows is very creamy, meaning you only need a little of the product to create a rich colour. The creamy formula also helps prevent creasing on your eyelids and keeps the eyeshadow looking good all day long without the need to top up. Because these eyeshadows are very creamy, they are also very soft and I have found that they need to be treated very carefully and not bashed about to avoid them crumbling. If you are someone who takes their make up everywhere with them in their bag, these eyeshadows might be a little impractical for you as they are fairly easy to break. The casing is very protective though and most people would not have an issue with this. These eyeshadows glide easily onto my eyelids and I love how easy they are to blend.
Another great feature of these eyeshadows is that they can be used wet as an eyeliner. The golden colour in particular is gorgeous as an eyeliner when you are going out or want to have more party-like make up. If applied wet, these glide on almost as well as a liquid eyeliner and have a very similar effect.
I personally love this duo. My make up would not be the same without it. I love the colours, I love the formula, I love the way they look and I love the the versatility of this duo. I can use them everyday for a neutral look, can wear them together or separately, can blend them with other eyeshadows, can layer them for a more dramatic/party effect and can use them wet as an eyeliner. I'm not sure I have many other products that can contribute so much to my collection!
The one draw back for me with this eyeshadow duo is the price. Whilst I only paid around £5 for mine on ebay, they retail at £25. For two colours that is a very large amount, even if the colours are very versatile and are appropriate for everyday use. I still have the one I brought, 6 months on from when I brought it and it is still has over half of each colour left, so the product does last but it is still pricey.
Overall, I would recommend this product very highly. The colours are gorgeous and practical and they are very versatile. I would however say that if you don't have the money to spend, £25 for two eyeshadows is very expensive and there are other products on the market which give you much more for your money and are of a similar quality.
Nars Eyeshadow Duo (Bellissima)
I bought this Nars Eyeshadow duo a while ago online and I did put off buying this product for a while as it is so expensive, in my opinion but now that I have this duo I am really glad that I bought it. Firstly, a little bit about the brand; Nars is a French brand owned/created by François Nars (a makeup artist and photographer). The brand is high end and it is not available on the high street - only in some Selfridge's stores and Harvey Nichols stores I believe.
- Product description (from the Nars website)
"Modern, unique, sometimes unexpected colour combinations of eyeshadow shades. Worn alone or together, all Duo Eyeshadow shades feature micro-fine powders that are highly pigmented, longwearing and crease resistant. Colour glides on smoothly, evenly and blends effortlessly. The effects can be subtle or smouldering -- the options are endless."
- About the product and packaging
The duo comes in a black cardboard box with white writing on, the outer packaging of Nars products is similar to MAC packaging. The eye shadows in total add up to 4g of product. The Eyeshadow duos come in a range of various colour combinations but I have the shades 'Bellissima'. The actual packaging/container that the eyeshadow is contained is rubberised so it feels like rubber and it matte, like rubber. I like the packaging as it looks expensive, it feels luxurious but the rubberised packaging attracts dusts/finger prints like nothing else so after a week or two of use the packaging will look a bit dirty.
I bought a duo in the shade 'Bellissima' which contains a shimmery and a fairly matte/satin eyeshadow. Nars describe the shades in this duo as a: 'shimmering beige with subtle glitter' and a matte grey/brown. I bought this duo because it is a neutral, everyday eyeshadow duo and I thought that I would get more use out of a neutral duo therefore it would be worth the price tag. The grey shade is stated to be matte (no shimmer/glitter) but it definitely has shimmery particles in it but because they are so small they are not very noticeable on the skin. I also bought this duo because one of the shades was stated to be matte and the other shimmery, so it would be, again, very wearable and fairly natural. Overall, I really like the shades, especially the grey shade (which is basically dark slate grey with slight warm undertones; it is not really brown).
- Using the product and results
I have a couple of uses for this product but I mainly use the shimmery beige as an inner corner or brow bone highlight and I usually use the grey shade as a liner or eyeshadow or even a brow powder as it is basically matte and the slight shimmer is not detectable on the skin. To use the shimmery beige shade in this duo I usually take my Ecotools flat angled brush and apply a small amount of the shade in the inner corner of my eye; this makes the eyes look more awake and it also makes near set eyes look further apart which is great for me personally. The shimmery beige shade is definitely not the most pigmented shade in the world but it has a good amount of pigmentation and the shimmer is noticeable but not massively so. I also use the shimmer beige shade as a brow bone highlight which opens up the eyes even more and makes me look a little bit more awake and radiant.
I then use the grey shade as an eyeliner usually and to do this I take the same Ecotools angled eyeshadow brush and I dip the brush in the eyeshadow then with this shade it is important to tap off any excess shadow on the brush otherwise it will end up on your cheeks. I apply the grey shade to my upper lash line, very close to the lashes and I do the same on my lower lash line - this makes the eyes look more defined and it makes the lashes appear fuller/thicker in a natural way. I also use this grey shade all over my eye lid but I have to only small amount to the brush as this grey shade is really quite pigmented. As well as an eyeliner and an eyeshadow I also use this shade as a brow powder - to fill in my eyebrows as unfortunately I don't have the brows of Cara Delevingne (amazing Burberry model and all round beauty!) but my brows are not miles away from hers. This grey shade works well as a brow powder from my medium/dark brown hair and it is an ashy shade so it looks natural on me. The grey shade looks like it has shimmer in it, when it is in the packaging but on the skin the shimmer does not show up so it is great to use on brows. Both shades have a nice smooth texture, despite the shimmer, they both apply and blend well and both shades work well with my pale skin.
If I use the grey shade as an eyeliner and the shimmer beige as a highlighter then I don't need to use a primer and it lasts all day without smudging or fading on me. Although if I use the grey shade all over the lid I will have to use a primer and my eyes are deep set so all eyeshadows crease on me and the best primer that I have found so far (and I have tried a LOT of eyeshadow primers) is the Nars Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Primer which because it is Nars is very expensive at £18 - the most expensive primer I own. With the Nars primer underneath the eyeshadows tend to stay crease free on me for about six to seven hours which is great, for me anyway. Overall, the longevity is good with the Nars primer and even though Nars is an expensive brand it is worth the money in my opinion.
- Price and availability
The duo itself is priced at £24 so £12 per eyeshadow which is quite expensive but the quality is fantastic. Although I think the eyeshadow palettes give you a lot more for your money - I have the Nars pleasures of Paris palette which is fantastic. This duo can be bought from the Nars website (with every order I have made I received a really good sized sample too - when ordering from the Nars website). Also I am signed up to the Nars newsletter (via email) which every so often contains codes for free deluxe samples (such as bronzers and blushes) when order from the website. Nars products can also be bought from Asos, Hqhair, john lewis and house of fraser.
*Easy and quick to use
*Bellissima is a great duo for everyday
*Packaging looks/feels luxurious
*Good longevity with a primer (best primer, in my opinion, is the Nars Smudgeproof Primer)
*Applies and blends so easily
*Bellissima duo is great as a liner and highlighter as well as eyeshadows
*Packaging gets quite dirty easily - from fingerprints/makeup etc
*Price - £24 is a lot but I am glad I bought this duo in particular as I get a lot of use out of it
Thank you for reading my review
****NARS Eyeshadow Duo ****
At the same time i needed a new lipstick nars had an offer on where you could get a lipstick and an eye shadow in a gift set. Okay so if i am being completely honest with myself i didn't need it but that never stops me lol.
A high end cosmetic range that sells a really large range of products. They are based in America and as such i don't think people in the UK can order direct from their site. Not a problem as plenty of other sites offer Nars products.
This is the same as the single eye shadows apart from the fact you get two shades. There are a wide range of colours to choose from-around 46 so there will probably be at least 1 compact that you like(more likely at least 10 hehe)The colours you get in the compact can be worn either on their own or together as they compliment each other. They can be used for a subtle look or if you build it up the look is far more dramatic. I really like how these are highly pigmented -the quality is so much better than cheaper products. Another thing i really like about this eye shadow duo is that it can be used wet or dry-you can use it as an eye liner.
Again unfortunately this is quite hard to get and it is quite expensive. I do like it but at around £25 i cant really justify buying loads of these,as much as i would like to.
