Advantages: Glides on well, beautiful colour, lasts well without chipping

Disadvantages: Odd shade name!

I have a wedding to attend next week and have been looking at different nail polishes to complete my look. Knowing I am to wear a peach coloured suit with white accessories, my niece offered to bring her vast collection of polishes round for me to look through and see if anything took my fancy. I accepted this without a second thought as the girl is a magnet for nail polish and if she didn't have the correct shade then no-one would.

When she arrived with her suitcase of nail polishes (well, perhaps that is a slight exaggeration but you get my meaning here) I set about making three piles - the blacks, greens and other obscure colours went straight back into the bag while the other two piles were 'maybe' and 'ohhh, I like this one'. That was until I found my perfect shade from the Nars brand, which I have actually never heard of before but the colour was so lovely that I nabbed it straight away.

My only issue is with the name of the shade, I cannot picture myself going into Boots and asking for a nail polish with the name 'Orgasm' - while it made me laugh when I realised the name of it, how on earth can a pensioner get away with muttering that taboo word to a gaggle of make-up demonstrators without them falling about laughing (or at the very least ridiculing me after I've made my red faced exit)!

"Let me do your nails, Aunty Joy, then we can really see how this one will suit you", said my niece so never one to disappoint I laid my hands out and let her get on with it.

The brush is the perfect length and thickness in my opinion. Even in my less than expert hands I was able to cover my nail with very few smudges or spots of polish ending up on the skin of my fingers - any mess was caused by my total ineptitude with a nail polish brush however and not because of any shortcomings with the brush included with this polish.

The colour glides on beautifully, I would have been happy with just the one coat as it gave me a shimmery but barely there colour however my niece convinced me to have an extra coat which really brought the colour of the polish out. The polish itself is of a good consistency; not thin so that it runs down my nails, but not so thick that it's all gloopy on the brush - this makes it very easy to apply neatly as I know that wherever the brush goes this is where the colour is going to be.

The colour of, ahem, Orgasm is absolutely beautiful. It is the perfect pink shade to match my suit and dries to a lovely peach colour which looks lighter and darker at times depending on how the light catches it. There is no glitter in the polish but it shines and glimmers in strong light and gives the impression of being a glitter polish, although please be aware that this is by no means a strong look so if you prefer the shine of a glitter polish then this may appear a little muted for your tastes.

This was four days ago that I applied this polish and it honestly still looks as good as the moment it was first done. There was one solitary chip on my thumb nail which was caused by sliding my nail underneath a ring pull, but this is hardly the fault of the polish as I should have really known better than to put so much pressure on a recently painted nail. The chip was very easy to cover up using just a little polish on the brush, there were no tell-tale seams to show that I had had to retouch this nail and the finished result looked as good as new.

I found the polish took a long time to dry compared to the very few other polishes I have used. I'd guesstimate that each coat took around 8 minutes to fully dry, which did make this a rather time consuming job considering just how slow I am at applying nail polish in the first place!

I have just had a look on the Nars website where I was shocked to see that the polish costs £12.50 a bottle, this seems very expensive to me as I thought all nail polishes cost around the £4.50 mark although to be honest this is obviously a premium brand because of the quality of the polish so don't let the rather hefty price tag put you off.

There is a wide range of colours varying from Temptation, an opalescent white, to Dovima which is tomato red. For the full range have a look at www.narscosmetics.co.uk and choose the 'nails' category, you can also buy your chosen shades from this site and I can confirm that the Orgasm shade at least is very true to the example on site.

Summary: An excellent nail polish that even I can apply with my limited make-up knowledge!

I love Nars stuff - not tried the Nail Varnish though, I have a well stocked collection of Nails Inc to work through!

Lol, well it certainly gave me a giggle, though if you ask the make up demonstrators I bet they wouldn't bat an eyelid as they're so used to the rude (but oh so funny!) names that Nars uses on their products by now ;)
