I am fiercely faithful to my L'oreal eyeshadows but if I am given an eyeshadow by another brand as a present, I am always willing to give it a go. For my birthday this year I received a Single Eyeshadow by Nars. What does the product do? Nars promise that these shadows will give you long lasting colour that won't crease. The highly pigmented shades are adaptable and can be worn sheer or as a block colour depending on how the shadow is applied. Not only this but the shadows also double up as an eyeliner and can also add colour to the eyebrows. Available Shades The shades come under three heading and these are Matte, Shimmer or Nightlife. The one I received for my present came under the Shimmer heading as my friend knows that I am a glitteraholic. I received Galapagos which is a brown shade with flecks of gold. There really is something to suit everyone in this collection and the colours range from creams and pastels to blacks and purples. Each comes with a lovely but not very self explanatory names including Lola Lola, Twisted, Bombshell, Thunderball and Sugarbaby. How do you use the product? The product can be applied using an eye shadow sponge or your finger. You need to sweep your sponge across the product and then apply it to your lower lid from the inner corner to the outer corner. If you want to achieve a more intense colour then you need to apply the shadow using a wet sponge. If you want to use the product as an eyeliner then you need to use a wet eyeliner brush and draw along the lash line. For the eyebrows, you need to apply the shadow along the brows to make them darker but I wouldn't advise using the particular shade that I have for this purpose because you'll have golden glitter in your eyebrows! Packaging and Price The eye shadow comes contained within a classy, sleek black compact which has writing on the front in white capital letters. When you unclip the lid, you'll see there is a mirror in the lid which allows you to apply your make up on the go. Inside the compact you get a lovely rectangle of your chosen shade which is protected by the hard shell of the compact. My friend bought my eyeshadow for me from the Nars website for £17 and for that money, you get 2.2 grams of the shadow. I'm not sure if you can buy the shadows in a shop but a quick Google search tells me that they are available on many various online websites. Application The product is easy to apply to the lid. It has quite a silky formula so it glides across the lid without pulling or dragging the delicate skin. When applied using a dry sponge some of the powder and glitter can fall out and land on your cheeks which is never a good thing, especially with a dark shade like mine. I wear contacts and I'm always wary of using products of this type in case they go in my eye and causes me irritations. The fall out doesn't happen when you apply the shadow with a wet sponge. The colour can be built according to the occasion or time of day that you wear the shadow. I haven't used the shadow as an eye liner because I don't want the glitter going that close to my eye so I can't comment on how well this works. Performance The product is just as long lasting as was promised. If I apply the shadow at the beginning of a night out, it will be just as vibrant when I come home. It also remains crease free as promised so you don't need to worry about fading or unsightly gatherings of shadows in the creases of the eyelid. The shadow is highly pigmented and the brown colour is rich and delicious. The gold glitter doesn't really show up very much and the bits that do show up disappear as the night goes on which is a bit of a disappointment for something which has appeared in the Shimmer collection. Nevertheless, the absence of intense glitter means that this shadow is suitable for both day and night wear. When it's time to remove the eye shadow, it comes off with my usual eye make up remover. Conclusion All in all, this is a lovely eyeshadow with a rich colour that can be adjusted according to your needs. It is long lasting and remains crease free but can be easily removed when you want it gone. For the glitteraholics out there, the glitter may not be enough but then if you are a true glitter fan like me, you have plenty of other ways to up the glitter dosage on your lids. This is an expensive eye shadow but as it will last for well over a year, I think it's worth it splashing out on.
Nars single eye shadows can be bought for £15.00 and are available at House of Fraser in their shops and online website, on hqhair.com and narscosmetics.co.uk. This eye shadow comes in a black compact with a mirror in the top half and the Nars logo written in white on the compact lid. It looks sleek and classy, so I like the packaging a lot. I first came across this brand of make up when I was recommended their blush and since I really liked them, I thought I would try out their eye shadows and see if it would be just as smooth and blendable as their blush. This eye shadow lives up to my expectations and I really love how soft, pigmented and blend effortlessly. They're one of the smoothest and intensely coloured eye shadows I have ever come across. I'm in love with the formula, though I have 2 things I would like to mention before everyone goes out and spends fortunes on them... I like the way they feel, apply and look and how easy they are to work with and create a ton of effects and looks with. You can use them as eye shadow, eye liner and even eye brow colour. The cons I had to mention were the price; it's £15 for just one shade, which I find quite pricey compared to the Urban Decay and MAC shadows I get as these are 50% more expensive. Also, though their colour range is awesome and there are some very pretty colours there, I personally prefer loads of colours to choose from, especially bright, vibrant shades. I would love it if they could have a wider colour range with some unusual, bold colours. Other than that, I'm very pleased with these shadows but have to limit myself to only getting one every couple of months or so because they're quite pricey.
Nars, to me this company is worth every penny for the beautiful eyeshadow. I love it, usually if I want a shiny eyeshadow which is glittery because I am a glittery girl I will only find ones with glitter which doesn't sparkle much. Before walknig into Space NK, I had heard of NARS because Britney Spears used it and I loved her makeup and so I went into Space NK and was delighted to find they sold NARS. NARS makeup has classy packaging the black cases with the silver writing saying NARS. The one eyeshadow I have fallen in love with is a lilac one which is very glittery and to me shows off my true self. The golour has a name but I can't remember it, it is priced at £12.50 the eyeshadow and stays on for ages. The amount of glitter is lots it's all the way through it and definitely sparkles it is beautiful. The eyeshadow will move if you smudge it, but it doesn't go away very quickly it won't fade from your eye unless you rub it. At £12.50 from Space NK, I wouldn't exactly call this expensive if it is what you have been looking for or if you are paying for a name or good quality which this definitely has.
I have long been a make up addict and stumbled across NARS in Space NK some time ago (Space NK stores are in Bluewater and Covent Garden) you can also buy Nars products in Liberty's in London. I have recently bought the Nightfairy single eyeshadow which is a sparkly lavender colour which is really pretty but best put on with a sponge and not with a brush so you get the intensity of the colour and also the sparkle. I have just bought Nightshadow for a birthday pressie for a friend and I haven't seen this colour before, it's a gold/almond sparkly number so could be worn day or night which at the price of 12.50 is good news. I think NARS make up is fabulous the quality is brilliant and the packaging is eye catching and it's made of a material that feels rubbery so is very touchy feely PLUS on last weeks Sex in the City, Carrie opened her drawer to show that she had 3 eyeshadow compacts in their (for all you fans out there!!)
Nars shadow, like the rest of the line, is impressive. First of all, i can't go without commenting on the packaging. Sleek and unique and *rubbery*, it's just so pretty and cool and fun. :) It also has a mirror, which i always appreciate. Of course, what really counts is inside. And what's inside is even more impressive. Nars colors are deep, rich, and true. They go on smoothly and are highly-pigmented, so you use less product with each application. All of the colors are worthwhile, with one caveat: the line of blacks-with-colored-sparkles (Night Flight, Night Fever, and Nightclubbing) look neat in the container, but are less thrilling when applied. Of course, the black base is dark and smooth, but the colored sparkles are all but invisible. I've found that the color is better applied with a sponge applicator than a brush (you lose what few sparkles there are when you brush it on). Also, you will see a bit more colored sparkle in these "night" colors if you apply it with a wet brush/applicator - applying it wet as a liner is a nice look. My favorite color is Night Fairy - similar only to the aforementioned night shades in name and shimmer - which is an utterly lovely sparkly lavender. Nars products are not cheap, but they are affordable and are well worth the money. Overall, spend freely at the Nars counter! You will not regret it!
With its wonderfully rubbery and stylish packaging, Nars presents a product that is pleasing to the eye and pleasing to fondle. And the content doesn't disappoint either. All the Nars eyeshadows I've had have lasted ages - both the lid and as a product - and needed no special application techniques to look good! The shadow glides on easily without the need for large amounts of the stuff or lots of stretching and scraping of those delicate lids. The best thing is, I think Nars is reasonably priced!
