Advantages: easy to apply, quick results
Disadvantages: not the cheapest nor the most attractive but.....
My late Mum suffered from a very dry skin due to years on cortisone & it was her GP who recommended her using Neutrogena for her hands - since then I've always made sure I have a tube in stock as, in my opinion, it's a brilliant hand cream. I've also found it works well on other dry areas such as the elbows & feet!
Apparently Norwegian fishermen use Neutrogena so if it's good enough for them I know it's good enough for all us women & non-fishermen out there. I buy the non-scented which has a red cap but there's a scented one with a blue one which isn't exactly a top-class fragrance but I think it's designed as a hardworking product rather than a beauty one.
I pay around £3.27 from Boots for a 50ml plastic tube which may sound quite dear but there are over 200 applications in the little tubes so it lasts ages & I can rely on this cream to soften & take care of dry or chapped hands in a few applications.
It's a thick cream & you only need to squeeze a tiny bit onto the hands which initially doesn't appear to be enough but rest assured a little goes a long way. I find it doesn't need a lot of 'working in' & I don't find it greasy to apply plus there's no residue left on the skin. I find it's most effective to use on the hands just before going to sleep but if I ever use it on my feet (especiall the heels) it's best to apply the cream after a bath / shower when the skin is more absorbent.
I've rarely seen Neutrogena heavily advertised - I think it's success is based a good deal on word-of-mouth - it looks pretty unimpressive on the chemists' shelves but if you suffer from dry or sore hands it's definitely worth looking out for. I'm pretty sure I saw some trial-sized tubes in our local chemist for 99p so if you want to try it for the 1st time I'd go for it!
The cream is dermatologically tested & contains glycerine but none of the additives usually found in many other hand creams so I'm fairly sure this would suit those with sensitive skin.
summary
~
- not the cheapest handcream around but imho the best 1 for dry/chapped hands.
- not the prettiest packaging but definitely does the job.
- a little goes a long way.
- suitable for men & women.
- quick results for very little effort.
Summary: a really great handcream which I'd highly recommend

- 06/10/09 Somebody gave me a tube of this at Liverpool Street station last week. It suddenly occurred to me that it was actually just a lone person giving me her one tube. It was all rather disturbing really.... |
