Advantages: Effective And Better Than The Competition
Disadvantages: Melts In Warm Weather & Multiple Application Often Required
I do have some problems with my lips getting dry and occasionally cracking in cold windy weather and if I am in a particularly dry indoor environment that is controlled by fierce air conditioning.
I therefore need to use an effective lip balm to prevent dryness or to repair cracking.
I have tried a few different brands but always come back to Nivea Lip Care Essential as I have found it to be the most effective. It costs me about £1.60 which is expensive compared to other brands but worth the price difference. Cheaper brands are available at nearer the £1 mark.
The product comes in a lipstick style twist tube so when you turn the base the balm rises up and down from the tube. It is 4.8g in weight and measures 6.5 cm in height and 1.7 cm in diameter.
The balm is a solid stick but if it gets at all warm it can become very soft and then has a tendency to melt and become messy. So it's best to keep it cool or even refrigerated. A slight negative is that when you first use the balm if you twist too much of it out of its holder it can snap in half.
You can re-attach it but it's annoying when this happens and a design fault in my opinion.
The balm itself is smooth and vaseline like but silkier in texture than vaseline. It is magnolia white in colour but the colour is not noticeable after application. It has a very feint vanilla taste to it and a neutral to slight vanilla smell.
In cold weather I need to apply it 2 or 3 times a day and if you are trying to speed up the repair of a crack in your lip you may have to apply it numerous times throughout the day as it does dissolve not that long after applying it.
The balm contains Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter and is dermatologically approved. My skin and face reacts badly to many products but I have found this product to be very gentle.
Summary:
It is one of the better lip balm products available but is susceptible to breaking in half and to melting in any kind of warm weather.
Summary: It's Not Perfect But Pretty Good
