Advantages: Good price, good value, smells nice, effective, gentle
Disadvantages: None
Up until recently I'd just been using cleansing wipes to remove make-up, but when it came to black waterproof mascara and eyeliner they did struggle in getting it all off, resulting me having to use a kind of scrubbing motion against my eyes which wasn't very comfortable and of course no good for my eyelashes. I decided to buy a make-up removing lotion and after a quick browse in my local Superdrug I bought the Nivea extra gentle one, which I chose mainly because of the claim that it is extra gentle as I have such sensetive skin, and it is also quite a reasonable price.
I paid £3.39 for the 125ml bottle which I know is not dirt cheap but to be honest I am sick of buying dirt cheap make-up products only to find that they're no good which is why I didn't mind paying that bit extra. Nivea is quite a popular brand so I felt that I was paying a bit for just brand name which didn't bother me too much as. I bought my bottle of this from Superdrug and it's widely available due to Nivea being such a well known brand. Boots, Amazon and all of the well known supermarkets sell it and prices do vary very slightly.
The make up remover comes in quite a chunky plastic bottle which is pretty basic in design. It doesn't look cheap or tacky at all and it doesn't look out of place on my dressing table. The bottle is clear but has a light blue tint to it which is a bit nicer than being completely transparent in my opinion, but the fact that I am still able to see how much of the product is left is handy. The branding on the bottle is minimal but informative. There's the Nivea logo, the product name and a brief product description which simply states that the product contains ProVitamin B5, is suitable for all skin types and gently removes make-up and mascara.
The bottle has a flip top lid which is easy to open and securely close again. The make-up removing liquid itself is clear and it has the consistency of water. It does come running out of the opening quite quickly when tipped upside down but the little hole that it's dispensed from helps to slow the flow down a little resulting in no spills/no product going to waste. To use the prouct I simply get a cotton pad and pour the liquid on to it until it's soaked in and the pad is completely moist. It's important not to apply too much else as soon as you start using it moisture will drip out everywhere.
I then wipe it gently over my eyes and after the first wipe the make-up is almost gone - which I think is really impressive. After the first wipe the cotton pad is usually black with make-up so I get another cotton pad and repeat the process. After the second wipe all traces of make-up are gone and my skin around my eyes feels quite refreshed and clean. I've never had any problems with this irritating my skin or eyes and I've not experienced any stinging or burning sensations. I am really impressed with how effective this is at removing eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner quickly and effeciently and I like how gentle it is; I don't have to press the cotton pad onto my skin and scrub the skin, two gentle wipes across the eyes is enough to leave my skin free of any traces of make-up.
I also like that this smells quite nice - it's a gentle, fresh scent which has a pleasant 'clean' kind of fragrance. It doesn't smell artificial or like chemicals which is a nice change as the eye make-up remover that I had a while ago smelt like nail varnish! Overall, I highly recommend this eye make-up removing lotion as it's gentle, effective and good value for money.
