Advantages: Nice color, feels nice.
Disadvantages: Needs reapplying throughout the evening
I have a favorite lip balm for now the Burts Bees Beeswax one, which I have written a review about already, but it doesn't have any color and sometimes in the evening I prefer to use a colored lip balm rather then a lipstick.
So I bought on impulse (dangerous thing that) a Nivea lip balm called Caregloss and shine. I bought the pink star version. They only have three colors so far, one is "pure natural", one "pink star" and the other "lovely red".
First Impression:
The package is small discreet and easy to use. The tube is a small 10ml plastic case with a transparent screw top lid and a small slanted spout with a hole in the center so as you squeeze the tube a small amount comes out the top.
I bought the "Pink star" color as because they are in a cardboard display case with a stiff plastic piece holding it in, you cant open and see the colors, and I wasn't sure how the dark the "lovely red" was going to turn out. So to play it safe I bought the pink tube as I like to emphasize my eyes and then have a more neutral lip color.
According to the label it was enriched with Shea butter and Vitamin E and was a combination of lib balm with glamor and gloss. It does not mention anything about a smell, but when I opened it I did notice that it had a faint but pleasant fruity smell. It is defiantly not the main feature like it is with Lancomes "Juicy tubes", but it is there however discreet.
The color is very light and quite pleasant looking, it isn't so dark that if you don't get it on perfectly you can tell, but rather a pearly gloss, that enhances without making it too obvious. There is no taste either pleasant or unpleasant, and rather then feeling sticky it is more like a lip butter. There is a slight shine to the color, I wont say glitter as it is very small and not immediately noticeable.
Long term effects:
I cant say that as a lip balm it is the greatest as I didn't notice it actually improving my chapped lips (that is something that is always a problem for me in cold weather) but it was a very nice addition to my lip care, as it would mask the rough edges and for going out on the town I find it perfect for my needs. Lipstick tends to overemphasize the chapped lips, and most lip glosses are very sticky with lots of glitter or such as the nicer brands, very expensive.
Conclusion:
This suited my needs and I found it reasonable price wise and with enough shine to suit me while out, without looking gaudy. The price was 3 pounds when I bought it but you can get it cheaper and on Amazon it varies between 2-4. I will take away one star, as it didn't help my chapped lips, but it didn't worsen them either.
