Advantages: softens lips, adds a subtle shine, smells really good

Disadvantages: Doesn't last that long

I recently decided to change my regular Revlon lippie after having discovered it contained the ingredient carmine (from beetles) which I didn't really fancy spreading across my chops. I'd previously reached the point of scraping out the last of the lippie so was quite happy to throw it away and try something new.

My lips tend to need a lot of care, especially in the summer when they tend to give up and go all dry on me. Also, because I have fairly full lips it can become very noticeable as soon as they descend into the 'very dry' category.

I was looking for something red/pinkish, a bit more snazzy than your average chapstick, small enough to whip in and out of my bag quickly and not too expensive. Nivea lipcare caregloss and shine seemed to fit the bill.

I know you!
----------------
Nivea is a well-known brand that I was already familiar with as I had a number of their products (see reviews) and was a very happy and satisfied customer. They create all sorts of skin, facial and hair products.

Their range of lip care products are devoted to improving the everyday pucker. In this particular range they sell 3 different colours: natural, pink and red and but they are always expanding and have recently started an advertised 'pearl shine' range which promises to add even more sparkle.

-----------------------
The gloss comes in a miniature 10ml tube with the gloss itself coming out of a tiny hole in the nozzle at the top. The nozzle is also slanted at the top which means you can just rest your finger on the slant which just makes it that little bit easier to see where the gloss is coming out from.

The gloss
-------------
I opted for the pink one. It's a rosy pink with sparkly glittery bits which can be seen through the see-through tube but are even more obvious when you dab a little out onto your finger. The consistency is just right: not too thick but not as runny as traditional clear lip gloss.

When I ran it across my lips I found that they did definitely feel a lot softer and you could still see the sparkle which not only give your lips a bit of a shimmery lift but looks very summery at the same time.

Mmmmm.
-----------
I have to say the smell is fantastic: the sort of smell that makes you want to eat it. It's fruity, fruity, fruity. I think there's a tint of strawberry too. When I've applied it, forgotten about it and absently licked my lips I always get a bit of a surprise when my tastebuds start tingling the frutiness.

Application, application, application
---------------------------------------------
All it takes is a little squeeze at the bottom and the gloss will quickly exit out of the top. I found this to be quicker to use than glosses which come in mascara-type tubes as all that was required here was a quick turn to remove the plastic lid and a bit of a squeeze.

What will it cost me?
--------------------------
I paid around £3 for the gloss and was able to grab a few Boots points at the same time.

Hmmmmm

The only few things I'd say in terms of bad points, is for a 10ml it is perhaps a little bit pricey and if you don't use it sparingly it will run out fairly quickly. I usually stick with a chap-stick for general use but just use the gloss when I need that little bit of a lift so so far it's lasting a lot longer. For an even fuller effect, I'll use a thicker undercoat of Vaseline/chapstick and then add the gloss on top although you can just use the gloss on its own.

Also, If you're after a bit more colour when you add the gloss, I'd opt for the red gloss rather than the pink as this didn't seem to make my lips stand out quite as much as I wanted as they are quite dark. However, if you're after just a slight sheen with a hint of colour the pink gloss is perfect. Basically, it's all down to lip colour and the desired look.

Another point is that it does fade off your lips quite quickly.

Still, I can't complain too much- all in all its a great gloss that does the job!

Summary: A softening sparkle in a tube!
