Advantages: works for short amount of time

Disadvantages: bit sticky feeling, messy. not worth the price

As it's now August it's time for me to find a decent lip balm to keep my mouth from getting a cracked and jagged feeling. Usually I end up buying a different one each year if I don't think the one before did me any good. However there are a few which I have been left feeling slightly conned out of a few pounds. Nivea seem to be quite good at this so I don't know why I have kept running back to them. I simply cannot resist the adverts in the magazine despite the fact that those models are clearly not in my situation and can probably afford a product out of my price range.

I'm not overly fond of wearing any type of lip gloss, they tend to be a bit sticky in my opinion and the colours never really impress me much. However in this case I quite liked the natural version, boring I know. Although you can get it in 2 other shades-a pink and red colour.

It comes in a little tube with a plastic screw top lid, as it is quite small you can have it discreetly placed in your pockets without making it too noticeable or just slip it into your bag. Either way it isn't a bulky product although why it has to be strapped into cardboard packaging as well is beyond me.

The tube has a slanted top so it is relatively easy to apply as it gets the right angle without too much mess. You could also put a bit of the balm onto your finger and apply it that way although I find it a bit of a wasted effort as it just mucks up your hands a bit.

You don't have to put too much pressure on the tube to get the gloss out. It is a bit runny and if you aren't careful it will go everywhere leaving you to clean up the slanted bit otherwise it sticks to the sides and makes it a bit grimey.

I do find this a bit too sticky for my liking. When putting it on no matter how gentle you are it always feels as though you've put about three layers of lip gloss on. Although it is runny it's got a thick feeling about it.

On saying that it does work for a while. Leaving your mouth feeling a lot more soft and moisturised. It is better to use when going out into the cold weather than wearing it all the time. I found by doing that it made more of an impact. As it is a gloss it is quite shiney so if you don't like the idea of light reflecting off your mouth in an obvious way I wouldn't bother.

It only contains about 10ml of the gloss so it isn't going to last you all that long, especially if you go out a lot. For the cost of £2.79 from Boots I think I did waste money on something which wasn't all that suitable for me.

Despite its neutral colouring it does give your lips a bit of a tint which is good for me because when my mouth goes dry it turns a very pale and almost grey shade.

It does have a slightly perfumy scent about it but not really all that noticeable to make it a problem to anyone. Overall this isn't the best product on the market. Despite having Nivea to its name there is nothing to it really. A very shiney product with a bit of colour which only works for short amounts of time I don't think is worth almost £3.
