Advantages: Works well, good price, Its Nivea

Disadvantages: None

I am one of those people who just cannot stand my lips being dry and I suffer from this problem all year round. In the summer the wind and sun dries them out and in the winter the cold weather does the job. To make matters worse I find myself constantly licking my lips and then wiping them dry.

Consequently I have all sorts of different lip balms in drawers around the house and more in my handbags. Some of them are in little pots, some of them are in little tubes and some of them are the lipstick style ones

One of my favourites brands is Nivea and I m currently using the Repair and Protection version. It is priced at about £1.65 at Boots but it is rare that I pay full price for these sorts of things. I usually wait until they are on special offer, which they often are, and buy three for the price of two. You know me - I always have my eye open for a bargain!

The lip balm comes fixed to a piece of cardboard by means of clear plastic so all the packaging is recycleable then, so that's a good start as far as I am concerned. The tube itself also ends up in the recycling bag when it is empty too!

The tube itself is about the same size and shape as a lipstick and contains 4.8g of lip balm. It is white with a light turquoise cover with the Nivea Lip Care logo in bright blue on the front and the address of the manufacturers in Germany on the back together with the web site address of www.nivea.com

You just apply the balm to your lips in exactly the same way as you would apply lipstick and using the same sort of amount as lipstick. It also feels the same as lipstick on your lips when you apply it.

There is almost no taste to this lip balm which is an advantage to me because, if the balm tastes nice, I keep licking my lips meaning that I have to keep reapplying!

When I use this product I find that my lips feel instantly hydrated, smooth and comfortable. My lips also have a light sheen to them when I use this product.

The blurb from Nivea states that 'Nivea Lip Care Repair & Protection provides effective care and protection for dry, chapped lips'. So far I have found this to be true - my lips are definitely not dry or chapped when using this product, in fact they feel normal and comfortable - which is exactly what I want.

The lip balm contains a 'soothing and protecting formula with skin conditioning Panthenol, calming Bisabolol, protective vitamin E and UV filters'. It is free from preservatives and dermatologically approved.

It even provides care and protection in extreme weather and since our new home is at the top of the Great Orme in Llandudno where it gets VERY windy, this is important. It also has an SP factor of 6 just in case we ever get any sunshine!

The little tube is small enough to fit in the smallest of handbags so I can take it anywhere with me for instant relief.

This review may get posted on Ciao in the fullness of time.

Summary: A great lip balm that does the job well

I always ensure I have a lip balm with me at all times, you never know when you may need it. This one sounds great, I prefer the pots to sticks, but if theres a good stick then I will use it. Thank you, Nicola x
