I wanted to buy a mascara that didn't end up smudging all underneath my eyes as the last one I bought tended to leave me looking like a panda by the afternoon. I was going to a couple of family weddings and wanted to look my best all day long without having to reapply my make up in the evening for the reception.
I went to Boots with my friend and she suggested I buy a waterproof one, we had a look on the shelves and I found this Boots No7 Intense Volume Mascara on there which looked good and came in a waterproof version. It was on sale at £9.95 so I thought I would give it a try.
My friend suggested I try a brown/black colour instead of black which I usually get as she said it would look more natural so I got one to see what it was like. You cant really try mascara on in the shop so I had to buy it to try it.
When I got home I thought I would have a go with it to see what it was like. The tube is a nice metallic brown colour which feels like plastic but it's nice looking. It is a straight style tube, not like the bulbous shaped ones. The brush on the wand is a spiral one that looks nice and firm and it doesn't look clogged up which is a good sign.
The mascara was easy to apply to my lashes, the wand was easy to manoeuvre about and it covered all my lashes quite well. It looked a bit different to the proper black that I have been used to all my life but my lashes are quite thin these days and some are very light now, not sure if they are going grey or what but this new mascara did cover them well.
As for staying power, well it stayed on my lashes all day and all day the next day too haha. I didn't mind as it was not irritating my eyes at all and was nice to get up next day and look like I had some eye lashes for once. I would certainly buy this again, may be use the brown black when I am not going out somewhere special just to look like my eyes are normal.
I have been using Boots No7 mascaras as well as other makes for years but my current favourite is No7 Exquisite Curl. As I was going on holiday I decided to treat myself to a new mascara and since I expected to be swimming I thought I would select a waterproof one. Unfortunately Exquisite Curl doesn't come in a waterproof version so I picked up No 7 Intense Volume Waterproof in Brown/Black. It was £11.50 but I used the usual £5 voucher.
The mascara comes in an attractive shaped and easy to hold metallic-effect blue tube with gold writing in the normal No7 style. The product is supposed to produce "fantastic volume with perfect separation and curl".
Upon opening the barrel I was greeted with a pretty standard chunky brush with a slight tapering shape. For a Brown/Black mascara I thought the colour was rather pale. I am a red-head and have used Brown mascaras in the past and I felt this one looked quite brown really. This colour was not a problem for me put some people may find it too pale for their needs.
I was pleased to see that the wand came out nicely coated in mascara with no visible lumps. The brush was easy to use and to apply to my somewhat feeble lashes, even the short, stubby ones at the edge of my eyes. However, although the mascara glided on smoothly it was not very impressive. My lashes are already short and fine and this mascara did absolutely nothing to make them look any thicker, you could hardly tell there was any mascara there except for the fact that my lashes were now slightly darker. There was no sign of the promised curl-effect either and my lashes stayed their usual ram-rod straight.
For normal day-time use I usually only bother with one coat of mascara but with this product I had to use two coats to get any sort of volume at all. For evening wear I would probably need three or four coats which is absolutely ridiculous.
Throughout the day the mascara stayed in place well under normal conditions, there was no flaking evident at all. When I wore it around the pool I didn't get obvious run-marks but I don't think it stayed on my lashes that well either, I felt they looked in need of another coat or two after swimming.
The mascara was easy to remove with No7 make-up wipes; it didn't require any extra effort at all unlike most waterproof mascaras which usually need an extra rub even when using suitable removers. I do not have sensitive eyes although I do wear contact lenses and this product did not cause me any irritation at all.
I am not convinced about this mascaras Waterproof claims, it just didn't stand up to the water well enough for me and was too easy to remove so I think next time I will select a different brand. I will use the rest of the tube as a normal everyday mascara but will have to use extra coats due to its non-volumising performance and I certainly won't buy it again.
