“ Brand: NYC / Type: Nail Varnish / Suitable for: Nails „
I went through a nail polish phase earlier this year, when I was spending a huge amount of my wages on them, I bought the NYC in both green and yellow. Here are my thoughts.
This packaging is lovely - it is not the one shown above here - this is a taller bottle. The bottles start slim at the bottom end go wider as they go, making the bottle look huge! There is a matte plastic lid, which has the brush inside and there is NYC in a white outline on the bottle. This advertises drying in a 'New York minute' and you can see the colour through the glass bottle.
The first thing about this polish is that it is an odd consistency they are just too thick. This wouldn't be such a problem if the polish went on that way too, which it doesn't. It sits on the nails in a kind of patchy sheer pattern that just looks awful. Add that to the fact that a NewYork minute is obviously about ten Cheshire UK minutes this is far too easy to smudge. I had to put on four coats if the yellow an it was still patchy. I decided to make the best of it but almost fifteen minutes after applying it I reached to get something from in between the sofa cushion and the entire thing smudge off onto the cushion - this was a nightmare to clean.
The colours were actually really pretty and the particular shade of green I got is very hard to find anywhere.
I cannot tell you about the staying power as every time I have tried to wear this product (and believe me I have tried) it has become so badly smudge in the huge dry time that I have had to remove it. This goes on so thick I believe if you ever got past the smudging stage it would last quite well.
The brush is also very thick meaning it is very difficult to control how much you have on the brush.
Price and Availabilty
I bought two for £3 and they normally sell at £1.99 making them a good low price, these can be bought at numerous places online and also in larger Superdug stores.
I really wanted to like these nail polishes as I have seen so many good reviews for them but unfortately they are just not for me, may I don't have the patience. I may try purchasing these again in a different colour but for now I shall continue to avoid the NYC stand.
I love wearing nail varnish it makes my hands look nice and pretty. As a mum to four boys I spend a lot of my time cleaning muddy trainers and footy boots etc.. This isn't so good for my nails so I need a nail varnish that is quite hard wearing.
N.Y.C. nail enamel is everything I need!
I have this in black lace (or something similar) and also in shade i112A which is a dark orange colour.
The bottle is a typical nail varnish bottle shape, round and squat with a long, slim black lid. The bottle holds 13ml of product and the cost is just £1.99. I bought it in Superdrug.
The lid hold the brush which is nice and slim and covers the nail in three even strokes.
As with most nail varnishes I find that this needs two coats.
Applying it, the smell is very strong but it's something us girls are used to I suppose, it dries very quickly and I can apply the second coat as soon as I have finished on my second hand. It then dries completely in around 5 - 8 minutes.
The finish is very glossy and it looks fab!
It lasts around 5/6 day's before it starts to chip which is brilliant, especially as I don't always use a top coat.
I really like this nail varnish and will be buying more but the choice of colours isn't huge.
I love doing my toe nails as I have said in my other reviews but, this has to be the cheapest but one of the best nail varnishes that I have every used. I just happened to be in Superdrug one day when I came across it. I couldn't actually believe the price, I think it was £2.00 but they had a variety of colours from really light to really dark. They had the exact colour I was looking for which was a deep blue, it looked amazing.
Sometimes when you apply nail varnish it doesn't seem to go on very smoothly and clumps may appear but this one just glided over my nails. I applied two coats and it looked like I had had my nails done in a salon. If it was O.P.I you would agree that is what the price should justify but for such a low price it was great.
I kept this on my nails for the whole of my 11 day holiday and it didn't chip once. I had it on in the pool, in the sea, climbing rocks etc. I have had other products from this brand and they haven't been too good but with this nail varnish being so good it makes me sway towards liking the brand to be honest.
When I took the nail varnish off there wasn't any staining on my toes but the one thing I noticed was that my nails were quite brittle and dry. I will try more of these nail varnishes and s if the same thing will happen, but this can be caused from many things so I do not solely put the blame on the nail varnish.
When it comes to applying nail polish, this is usually something I only bother with for a special occasion or if I am going away. Therefore I am in need of a polish which not only looks great, but dries quickly and also doesn't chip.. I don't want tatty looking nails after all that effort!
One of my favourite polishes, is from NYC's Long-Wearing Polish range. The shade I have is 116A (Broadway Burgundy) and there are 19 shades in total to choose from. Each shade will set you back a pocket pleasing £1.99 from Superdrug for 13ml.
I currently have this shade on my nails, and after applying it a week and a half ago it is only really starting to chip now, and on my toes it hasn't chipped at all. When applying this, I did so by using a clear basecoat/topcoat using a polish I have previously reviewed Rimmel Pro in shade 421 "Clearly Clear". I applied two coats of the NYC colour for extra vibrance and strength.
After I had applied the basecoat, two coats of the polish and then a clear topcoat, it took about 5 minutes to completely dry. The thicker you apply the polish the longer it takes to dry, however I prefer multiple coats for added glamour and protection against chips.
I found the shade to give a rich, luxurious finish, which reminded me of poisoned red apples... but in a good way! It is not always easy to find a shade of red that is not too bright and suits multiple skin tones, but I think I have found it with this polish. I think it would also suit formal occasions as it is quite a deep shade however there are brighter shades available.
In terms of the bottle, it is perhaps this products only let down. I am not a fan of the grey lid on this product, as it makes it look cheap and washed out compared to the see through glass bottom. Also what I dislike about the applicator, is the brush tip which is far to thin to get an even coverage with just one stroke. I think if they improved this by widening the brush tip at least, then it would certainly be worthy of 5 stars.
At £1.99 I think this is certainly excellent value, for the quality finish you get with this nail polish. Generally NYC is considered the lower end of the scale compared with Rimmel and Max Factor, as you will notice it is usually placed at the end of the aisle in the make-up section, this doesn't mean to say it should be overlooked! This polish is considerably cheaper than it's rival brands and gives an impressive finish, making it one of my favourite polishes I own.
I have this nail varnish in black after seeing my friends black nail varnish and really liking it.
My NYC nail varnish is in Black Lace Creme and came in a 13.3ml bottle. The shape of the nail varnish bottle is very boring actually and rather plain and nothing special about it. A straight long tube with a straight long lid for the wand.
Upon unscrewing the lid, you reveal a nail varnish brush, just as you would expect from a nail varnish. I found this nail varnish rather easy to apply as the brush just glided along my finger nails. However when trying to get to those corners or when painting on the edge of your finger and nail, I found the brush a little hard to navigate (due to the spreading of the bristles on the brush) and made a little mess. Partly the brush´s and my fault.
I found that one coat of this stuff was enough and didnt really require a second coat. Im not sure if this was because I had this in black or if it was like this for all the colours.
I found something a little strange with this nail varnish. One time, I had this nail varnish on my feet and after getting out of the shower noticed that the nail varnish had completely gone from one of my nails. Only one! I dont have a particularly strong shower, so it couldnt have been the force of the water, so I wonder what it was.
After having this nail varnish for about 3 weeks, I found that it had gone a little sticky and making the application process rather tricky and gave me very bumpy nails. After that I decided not to use this again.
Overall this is an OK nail varnish, but there are a few flaws to it. I love the colour I have in this and they do have a huge range of colours in this particular nail varnish. I may try this again, if they have a colour I like but I wont be looking out for this on purpose any time.
I was looking for a colourful nail polish but didn't want to spend too much, I think I paid £2.50 for this at Superdrug.
N.Y.C were a new brand to me, as I usually shop in Boots and have never seen them in there. Seen as they had a nice selection of metallic colours and it wasn't expensive I decided to chance it. It is labeled as Nail Enamel - that got me wondering and the first thing I did when I got my new purchase home was to find out what is the difference between Nail Enamel and Nail Lacquer (paint/polish)?
"Nail Enamel dries from the outside, or "skins", then hardens as the drying agent evaporates. It will dry to a slick, glossy finish with good surface nail preparation" whilst "Lacquer dries from the inside, and leaves a dull finish". By dull finish I assume they just been in comparison on enamel and this kind of made sense. So equipped with my nail enamel knowledge I started to apply.
The brush was really good with plenty of bristles, it took 2 or 3 strokes per nail for complete coverage. I was surprised by how quick the first coat dried under 2 min any way. I could of got away with just one coat but decided on a second to emphases the colour a bit more. Again it dried really quickly and so I went on about my business pleased with my new shiny nail colour. Sadly with the hour I had a major chip, infact I do not even think you could call it a 'chip' as most of the polish from my middle finger had peeled away...peeled! So I went back to the bottle and did a rather messy job of touching it up. It didn't take long for all my painted nails to have some sort of cosmetic defect and so was disappointed that this was called "Long-Wearing". Next time I used this colour I did the two coats and then did a top coat this lasted much better, and to be fair is what N.Y.C recommend doing although I do think this defeat the point that they claimed this to be Long-wearing.
In conclusion longwearing does not equal hard wearing/chip resistant and I think this is a bit of cunning labeling from N.Y.C. I have continued to buy other nail products from their range purely because they are cheap and are fine with a clear top coat - so N.Y.C are obviously doing some thing right to make me keep coming back to them.
My friend bought me this nail varnish in a gorgoeus metallic purple colour with blue shimmer running through it.
Nail varnish is the ultimate accessory and really can change an outfit.
I love these nail varnishes because it really does do what it says on the tin.
These polishes are very long wearing and i get a chip or two after a few days but i think that is quite good especially as a dont wear base / top coat.
Normally with most nail varnishes i have tried, the next day they will be all chipped and horrible but this lasts quite a long time.
They are extremely cheap at £1.99 too so i think its definatly worth it and they do the most beautiful colours.
With this nail varnish you dont really need more than one coat but it looks much nicer with two but as its quite thick, you could get a way with one.
I find it looks a bit messy and its quite hard applying the first layer but the second one it just glides on and looks so smooth and shiny so i always do two layers now.
I think this is a really good nailvarnish to have in your storage and its a nice product and considering the price, its worth it!
I brought this nail varnish whilst browsing through superdrug, not usually bothering with the NYC stand I noticed this and thought it looked quite a bargain and decided to give it a try.
It costs £1.99 which is quite cheap for a nail varnish this size it comes in a 13ml bottle and seeing as this what I usually pay for a pot half the size I thought it was good value for money. There are quite a few shades not a huge choice but there is something there for everyone.
It is easy to apply as it has a nice long thin brush I like this in a nail varnish as I think it gives you better control and therefore less smudges. One problem with the brushes design is that the handle has a really flat end and it isn't that comfortable to hold as it presses against your hand when you are using it.
The colour of the nail varnish comes out the same as what you can see through the bottle I was quite pleased with this mine is a dark purple colour and I find with some of the darker colours they aren't a bold colour at all but more of a tint. You need to apply 2-3 coats to get the full colour no problems here as that is the same for most nail varnish.
It doesn't take that long to dry, and when it is dry it has a shiny finish, if you did want a really glossy finish you would need to apply a top coat but for me the finish it has already is fine.
One disappointment is that it claims to be long wearing, it doesn't give any idea on the bottle how long it will last but mine started to chip on the second day which isn't very long lasting at all.
This is a good nail varnish not the best I have tried but for the price of it I think it is worth the money.
NYC Long Wearing Nail Varnish
NYC is a company that stocks all types of cosmetics, these include mascara, blushers, eye shadow nail varnish and many more.
After receiving a bottle of the 13ml Long-Wearing Nail Enamel in i112A as part of a gift, I gave it a try. This tangerine-orange nail varnish is a god-send, it goes on as smooth as velvet and you only need two thin coats. The drying time is less than a minute which is a bonus.
These nail varnishes come in all sorts of colours, but the neons are a personal favourite of mine.
As a girl who is never without a colour on my nails, I have tried hundreds of nail varnish brands, and these bottles for £1.99 are a personal favourite, who'd have thought the cheap brand would be the best brand? I certainly didn't.
This is definitely worth the money, the colour is great, the coverage is great and not only that, it doesn't chip!
N.Y.C Cosmetics Long Wearing Nail Enamel
N.Y.C Cosmetics were introduced in 1999 by a company called Del Laboraties Inc, a leading manufacturer and marketer of cosmetics such as Sally Hansen products and over the counter Pharmaceuticles.
I Love my Nail Colors and I am always on the look out for New Brands and Colours.
In my local Superdrug two weeks ago I noticed a brand called N.Y.C Cosmetics, they do a variety of things that include Nail Varnishes, Foundations, Powders, Eye Shadows, Mascara's and Lip products all at a reasonable price.
I have been on the look out for a nice Dark Blue Colour to add to my collection and at £1.99 for 13ml I thought I would give these a try.
They did two types of Nail Varnish
Long Wearing Nail Enamel - long-wearing formula.
Nail Glossies Nail Enamel - colour with Vinyl and Pro-Vitamin B5 for strength.
The Colour I got was 115A, it was called Skin Tight Denim Crème in the Long wearing Enamel range, it came in a glass bottle with a long round handle with a nice length brush.
The brand name, type of varnish e.g Long Wearing Nail Enamel and amount was on the front and on the back was the full list of ingredients that are in it along with the address of the company.
When I first applied this I noticed that it was a nice consistency not to runny or too gloopy, I applied the first coat to all my nails and noticed it was slighty light looking almost see through and looked like it was going on streaky, but after I applied the second coat the color looked exactly like in the bottle and it went on very smoothly with no air bubbles at all, this was almost as good as my OPI Nail Varnish.
I definitly reccomend putting one coat of varnish on and letting it dry for 5 mins then put a second coat over the top to get the best result and colour, I also use Nail Envy as a top coat.
This colour easily stayed on my nail for a good 3 days without starting to come of which I think is really good for a £1.99 bottle of nail varnish, I will definitly buy some more of these as they go on well and stay on well.
