I live in England, but I was in New York, on holiday. I needed a new foundation, but in the shop I was in, they were all really expensive! This was the only reasonably priced one. I got back to the hotel and tried it that night, and honestly, I might as well have not put any on. Made NO difference to my normal skin whatsoever, and no matter how many layers you put on, it just makes you look slightly shiny/ oily, is all. I tries with fingers, brush and sponge and all leave the same awful result! Don't bother with it.
I suffer from horrible acne, and it annoys me more than anything so I am forever looking for a foundation which will help cover up my acne and help give me a nice clear complexion.
I decided to go for this foundation as it looked like a cheaper alternative to Revlon Colorstay, just incase your interested Revlon Colorstay is a very high coverage foundation but quite expensive.
The bottle it comes in is glass, just like Colorstay! it contains 30ml of foundation.
The bottle is clear so you can see the shade of your foundation, its very simple and on the front is the NYC logo and the name of the foundation, skin type..
On the back is a sticker which contains a little bit of information on the foundation, plus the shade and also it peels open so you can read it in different languages.
The lid is black and screw off.
Its a very simple bottle, I have no problem with it really.
The shade which I chose was Natural Buff, a lot of the shades looked orange and this was one which I thought would go with my skin tone the most.
I tried out the tester on my hand and the foundation seemed to have a good consistency and thats what swayed it for me.
The foundation comes with no pump dispenser, you just tip it on to your hand.
Now before use you shake, as you do with all foundations!
Make sure you be careful when your tipping it as ALOT does come out if your not concentrating and it can be a bugger to get back in.
Now when it was on my hand I did notice that it was the same as in the store, good texture but I also noticed the colour was a lot different than it was in the bottle, in the bottle it looked quite natural and light but when on my hand it was quite orange.
The smell that comes from the foundation is horrible, its like paint! This is usually what happens with heavy foundations so it doesn't bother me that much, but if you dont want to smell like paint then AVOID.
When I put the foundation on my skin I expected it to glide but instead it just stuck, literally. It would not budge, I could barely glide it across my face, it just clumped into one area. I decided its probably because its quick drying like Colorstay, so I started over again and used a bit for each of my face..Meh..the same thing happened, not as much but it did clump in certain areas and I had a very tough time rubbing it into my face.
I tried with a foundation brush which seemed to help, once again NOT A LOT but better than my previous attempts and all I can say is smooth coverage my backside, it was blotchy, it was bumpy, it was very very orange, my face was stuck together! very cakey and my acne looked worse.
I cant believe I have to even give this a one, awful.
I mentioned in a review a few days ago that my friend had given me a very early birthday present the other day and that was a gift set of NYC products for your face. I reviewed the powder foundation the other day so I thought it might be time to get around to reviewing the liquid foundation. Now I say time and time again in my foundation reviews that I am not a liquid foundation fan in the slightest, I find it messy to apply and it usually makes my face look very caked on and generally disgusting. Having said that Im forever trying out these liquid foundations in the hope that one day one will work and change my opinions. But so far I havent found one, and after using this one Im sorry to report that I still havent!
Rather than coming in a squeezable tube this actually comes in a glass bottle with a screw off lid. This was my first problem. I didnt want to pour the liquid out onto my hand because I knew Id use to much but the neck of the bottle is way to small to get your fingers in so I had to apply this with an eyeshadow brush (clean of course) and I assume that anyone else who uses this will have to apply it in the same way. Unless you have skinny fingers like ET!
Even after I had managed to get some out of the bottle I was struck by how runny it was, now whether or not your meant to refrigerate this or not I dont know but DO NOT tip the bottle upside down because loads will run out onto your hands. Unfortunately the consitency of this liquid changed as soon as it came into conatct with my skin.
As soon as I tried to rub this in I was shocked to find it had gone rock hard and wouldnt rub in at all! No matter how much I tried to rub this into my skin and blend it in it would not work, in the end I gave up and scrubbed it all off my face.
I tried a second time to rub this foundation into my skin without any success at all and I was really disappointed that it didnt work in the slightest because my friend had obviously put a lot of thought into this present and it didn work. I SO wanted this to work but no matter what I tried it just wouldnt so this is probably the worst liquid foundation I have ever used if Im being honest.
Stockists: Superdrug & Boots
Shades: Natural Buff, Sandy Beige, True Beige, Spice Beige & Natural Tan.
This is a proper sh*t foundation but I recommend it if you like working REALLY hard to apply your make-up but I doubt that speaks for anyone.
It just wouldnt rub into my skin at all no matter how hard I tried so i cant even comment on the results which is a shame really. I guess you get what you pay for really. Not recommended.
