If "pride" and "envy" are among the seven deadly sins, then this product is naughty times two!
I first tried Nail Envy after I went a bit mad for swimming and the water and chlorine seemed to make my nails flaky, brittle and prone to peel. I'd always had reasonably good nails, so this was the first time I felt I ever had to buy a product to fix them.
I believe you can get it in light colours and you can also get what is referred to as "original", but I've only ever the bought the version in the photo - matte. I don't know how original differs from matte, but matte seems to be the most popular - it is certainly the easiest available, any stores I've been in stock only it.
It comes in a neat little box with full instruction leaflet. The bottle is in the regular OPI design.
The first thing I noticed was that it seemed to be a rather unpleasant colour - kind of cloudy grey, but it is only like this in the bottle.
It has a regular nail varnish brush, and is applied in just the same way.
To start myself off, I followed the advice and wore it for a week, putting a fresh coat on each evening. It was hardly noticeable and dried quickly regardless of the number of coats. My nails had been stained by using extreme colours, and the Nail Envy covered these stains, even though it had little of its own colour.
I felt like my nails "soaked" it up and began to feel stronger with just a few coats.
After a week I used it as a base coat, putting on two thin coats before applying colour. I find it very long lasting and it doesn't tend to thicken up with frequent use.
As a result, my nails grew even better than before, really strong and resistant to damage - and of course because they were so tough, I could grow them even longer. Now, this makes it quite hard to type - my finger hits one key - my nail another, so now it just type with the tips of my nails. Thanks to Nail Envy and the excellent top coat Seche Vite (see a previous review) my nails are rock hard - and this doesn't damage them at all!
I usually get mine off eBay, because it's cheaper than in the shops - I would expect to pay approx. £5 inc P&P. In the shops it's about £8, but still worth it.
OPI is a brand that provides a range of beautiful quality nail products, ranging from strentheners as we have here with Matte Nail Envy, (which also comes in a glossy version, pastel colours and variations on specific nail problems, such as for peeling, dry and brittle etc.,) to a wide range of colours, oils, creams, manicure tools and probably a few things I haven't mentioned.
My nails are so weak that they are not just a cosmetic problem, as soon as a sliver of 'free edge' of nail peeps above the parapet of the tip of my finger it is liable to peel, or bend right back below the quick, which is as I'm sure you know quite painful. So although I like to have nice looking nails and hands Nail Envy has been a god send in making my nails tougher and less of a potentially painful problem.
I have tried many nail strenghtheners over the years, the Sally Hansen brand makes a huge range of nail treatment products which have been very effective for others but have virtually no impact on my nails, Mavala used to do a tiny bottle of lurid green fluid (not a varnish) which soaks into the nails, it contains formaldyhdye and is drying on the surrounding skin, and can turn your cuticles green, it worked but stung on any little nicks or cuts, and the green tinge wasn't flattering, I had tried to source this again but was unable to find it, which is what led me to OPI.
I like a natural look to my nails most to the time so my first bottle of OPI Nail Envy was the Matte as reviewed here. It comes in a nice but not overpackaged box, with a clear window through which you can see the product. The bottle is a nice tactile full rounded shape with an easy grip to the ergonomically shaped lid/brush, the brush itself is of superb quality and gives a good even sweep of varnish. The bottle holds a decent amount (15mls for £8.95 at amazon). When you start the programme it is recommended for the first week you apply a fresh coat (over the previous days without removing) every day. You remove it all once a week and start again, it depends on the condition of your nails, but once they are stronger you can then start using it every other day, and then as a maintenance a couple of times a week . At first you will probably find you are going through the bottle quite quickly, however it will become more economical the longer you use it as frequency of application can be reduced. Matte Nail Envy makes a good base coat as it gives and excellent grip for colour to adhere to.
OPI say their products are compatible with other brands, however I have used it with prostrong varnish (which may have been the problem as prostrong contains different strengthening ingredients) and the prostrong varnish would not take on top of it, smearing and refusing to dry, (it also has the same effect when the glossy version has been used over prostrong as a top coat). I have used Matte Nail Envy as a base coat with standard non strenthening coloured nail varnish and it has worked fine, although it works best with other OPI varnishes as you maintain the very quick drying time. However if you are planning to use colour for a special occasion it might be a good idea to check compatability beforehand. The strenghthening effects are supposed to work even when layered with ordinary coloured varnishes, and I have found this to be the case.
The advantage of the Matte Nail Envy over the other varieties is that anyone can use it, if you are a man that likes a manicured appearance but without the feminising look some products can give this is the boy for you, or perhaps you work in a profession that doesn't allow varnishes, this is undetectable whilst giving you an effective strenthening result. I'm sure you get the picture, stronger, longer (if that's what you want) nails with a completely natural appearance, alos offering a good grip for a coloured overcoat should you wish to add one. I often use the Matte Nail Envy as an udercoat just for a clear glossy overcoat simply because it makes the top coat last longer.
I found the programme very unfussy as the varnish dries extremely quickly, more quickly than standard clear and coloured varnishes, and even though you are wearing several coats by the end of a week it does not look thick or un-natural in any way. The Nail Envy range in general is the only thing that works for me, and although I can't always afford to replace a used bottle immediately I always go back to it when my nails inevitably start to disintegrate again.
At the minute I'm trying to find things on the site that I love and that I can share my love of with people, such as this, nail envy. I just remembered to look for this as I got a new bottle for xmas - thank god, as it is pricey !
It is well worth the price though. I have bitten my nails since I have had teeth, I blame the fact I didnt have a dummy when I was younger so I used to suck on my thumb, then my knuckles, then my nails. Lovely eh?!
Anyway my Nanna was the same and bought me this product, its around £16 from Boots or you can get it from your nearest beauty whole saler for around £13 (Sallys is the nearest one to me). If you can get it online for cheaper, do it !
It works like a nail varnish so you can use it on its own (which I would recommend if you are trying to stop biting your nails), as a base coat underneath a coloured nail varnish, or as a top coat - I would not recommend using it as a top coat, as it doesnt have direct access to your nail and its expensive to be using as a topcoat ! It is also quite thick and slightly gloopy coloured so may change the colour of the nail slightly.
The advice on the bottle is when you first purchase it put two coats on, then use once every other day, and once a week take all of the left over varnish off with nail varnish remover and start again.
It really does help make nails strong and less brittle, and it is an ideal product for anyone who has been wearing false nails or bites their nails.
I discovered nail envy a few years ago when i started to train as a radiographer as I couldnt really wear my trusted false nails for work. I had soft and easy breakable nails and I found that this made all the difference right from the first application!
Nail Envy seems to be stronger and has better adhesion than your regular clear nail varnish sold for strengthening nails. I found it also to last and last throughout my working week when constantly washing my hands.
The matte Nail Envy dries to a soft sheen remarkably like clean natural nails, I would say that this could be used by a man too, as the look to your nails is matte and natural unlike any other strengthening varnish.
My sister has shown me a technique also for if my nail splits fairly low down the nail bed. I simply take a small silk wrap which can be purchased pretty cheap, and apply the varnish over the top. The wrap then becomes invisible and the varnish obviously then still works to strengthen the nail. then i simply wait for the nail to grow and remove the wrap when the split is far enough up my nail!
I purchased this product from amazon at £12.99 for 15ml bottle, however I am aware that they are selling it currently at £8.99 on that site which is a total bargain!
I found the varnish dried quickly and like mentioned earlier gave a totally natural result.
Another tip I can give you is to use this as a base coat under nail varnish. As it is a matte product it won't show through the nail color you have chosen and then you can strengthen your nail as well as wearing your faveourite shade!
Years of biting my nails has led to them being brittle and impossible to take care of. Until a friend of mine recommended OPI Nail Envy to me. My nails are now long, strong and very rarely break.
This product is a miracle worker. I had tried lots of others and thought that this one was a bit on the expensive side, but I gave it a try anyway. It costs £15.65 in Boots but can probably be bought cheaper online.
Simply file all of your nails down so that they are all even lengths and aren't chipped or broken and then apply the miracle that is Nail Envy. It is a clear nail varnish that goes on easily and dries quite quickly. It doesn't chip very easily and makes your nails feel stronger almost instantly.
You will find that you need to take it off and re-apply it every few days. It will also leave your nails looking lovely and shiny and I have even put a coloured nail varnish on and then put this on top of it as a top coat before.
Please believe me when I say that this 100% works. I know it is pricey but if you have suffered with bad nails like I have, then give this a chance and after a few weeks of using it, your nails will look beautiful again.
Well this nail varnish certainly is pricey, but wow, it is 100% worth it! i've only managed to be able to afford nail envy a couple of times. However, when i do, it is like it contains magic in the bottle, as it makes my nails grow dramatically. It really does what it says on the box, and it strengthens my nails. It gets rid of those horrible flakey parts that sometimes occur, and stops them from being so fragile and breaking so easily. I would say that you should apply the nail varnish at least once a week to gain full effects from it. Also, although it is quite pricey, it will last you a very long time, as you get quite a lot in the bottle. It is also easy to buy it cheaper from ebay, at a more respectable price of £7, which is a whole £10 less so is definitely worth it. In conclusion, nail envy is definitely a nail varnish to have in your collection, as if you want long healthy nails, it is the nail varnish to get you started!
As I have said in some of my previous reviews, I like to look good and I make no secret of it, I try to eat a healthy balanced diet, I go to the gym and I only buy good quality make-up and beauty accessories and truly believe you get what you pay for.
For me, looking good makes me feel good and I am definitely one of those girls whom you read about taking hours to get ready. My beauty regime is timed with military precision and it starts with a bath and so on right up until I paint my nails, both my toe nails and my finger nails. If I have time to go to the nail bar then I will do so but I like to paint my own nails as well, it relaxes me and allows me time to sit and think. However I find that I have quite weak nails from time to time and they start to flake and peel and look totally disgusting. A friend of mine who is a beautician recommended that I use OPI Nail Envy Matte Strength.
OPI is a well known brand of professional nail care and hosts an array of products all over the world. It seems they have a solution for every nail programme so no wonder they are so popular with people like Claire, my friend, who owns her own Salon. So I took her advice and purchased my very own bottle online at a cost of £8.95 from Amazon.
The bottle itself is not exciting in anyway shape or form and is the common sized nail varnish sized bottle. The lid which is a screw lid and very easy to remove and replace. The varnish inside is a creamy colour with a slight sparkle to it and clearly written on the bottle are the words 'Matte Nail Envy', so you can definitely see which product you have bought.
OPI Matte Nail Envy is a Nail strengthener which is not only suitable for women, men can use it as well, so if your partner suffers with brittle nails then you can also help him to solve the problem.. Nail Envy is designed to help strengthen and protect the nail and it does this by stopping the nail from peeling, cracking and splitting. So because it is able to that it strengthens the nail.
I have been using Nail Envy for approximately 5 months now and I started to use it every other day as it is suggested you do in the instructions, applying a single coat and then after one week I cleaned my nails using a good nail varnish remover and continued to follow the same process for a month. Each time I applied Nail Envy to my nails I applied two coats to ensure not only that I got full coverage but also maximum protection.
This product is actually works best as a base coat which essentially means it should go onto naked nails because that is how it works best but it can also be used as a top coat as well.
When it comes to applying this varnish to your nails it really is very simple. When it comes to applying the nail varnish one of the best tips I've ever been given when having my nails done is to prepare your nails by cleaning them with nail polish remover, even if you have no old polish on your nails because it helps to remove any dirt or grease which could be lurking around and by doing this it means you can apply your nail varnish much easier. When applying my nail varnish I start in the middle of my nail working top to bottom with the brush and then moving to the sides of my nail to ensure I get an even coverage and once I have allowed the first coat to dry, if it is necessary I then add a second coat. This varnish is quite quick to dry which is also a good point.
When I bought this OPI Nail Envy Strengthener my nails were not in a too bad condition, but they were showing signs of being weak around the nail edge and the last thing I want is to have cracked nails because they are one of my selling points when I meet and greet clients, it is essentially important to me to have good looking nails. Since I have been using this product I have to admit that my nails are much stronger and they are better conditioned with my new nail routine. They look good, feel good, are soft and smooth with no ridges and best of all they don't chip and crack very easily. So for me this is a brilliant product which makes me feel much more confident.
You can buy OPI Nail Envy Matte Strength online at many different stores and it is worth having a look at different places for different prices because the price does escalate quite rapidly.
OPI Matte Nail Envy
OPI Matte Nail Envy is a Nail strengthener suitable for men or women that helps to strengthen and protect the nail by stopping the peeling, cracking and splitting we get and to help strengthen the nail.
I Started using Nail Envy just before Christmas.
My nails were in ok condition but they just seemed to grow to a certain point then they would just seem to split or crack.
Since using the Nail Envy my nails seem to be a lot stronger.
I can now accidentally knock them and know they won't break.
They also grow longer now to the point I have to either cut them or file them down, I use the OPI Crystal Nail File too and this has seemed to help even more, this helps to seal the edge of the nail to stop water getting in it and causing it to dry out and split.
I used the Matte Version of this and when you put it on you really can't tell you have anything on your nails, so for people who work in places where your not allowed to wear varnishes this would be a good one to use, This product contains Formaldehyde for anyone who can't use this.

Sensitive and Peeling Nail Envy
Also a New coloured Envy have just been released but I have only seen these in two colour's so far.
When you first use this it say's apply two coats to a plain nail, then every other day apply an extra coat, then after 7 days remove it and start again with the two coats on a plain nail.
I did this for the first two weeks now I just use it as a base coat (I prefer the Matte version for this and it drie's super fast) then apply a colour if I want to. After that I just add the Nail envy over the colour every other day or when I remember, I don't always remove it after 7 day's either and it still seems to work the same.
You can buy Nail Envy from Boots for £15.99 or Qvc for £14.00, I recently bought a duo set on qvc of the matte version and the shiney version for £14.75. You can buy it from various other online shops too.
