Origins Pinch Your Cheeks
by makeuprox I really love this blusher, it gives me a real healthy just-been-for-a-long-walk-in-the-country look when in reality I've been out too late and drunk too much. It comes in a small metal tube and you would easily think this was way too small and would run out quickly. However you would be much mistaken in this as a little goes ... a long way. To apply you squeeze a small amount on your finger and blend into your cheeks. You do have to work fast though as once this is dry - it is dry and fixed and you can't move it again! If you've left it too long, your only option is to remove with cleanser and start again! However it does blend easily and looks very natural - gives you a healthy glow. My top tip would be to start off small and add more if you feel you need it. The downside is the permanency (which is great in another way as it means it stays all day long) but I often end up with a red stained fingertip which I have to wash off before I go out. I would thoroughly recommend this product to anyone who wants a natural, long lasting blusher that doesn't leave a powdery look like the usual powder blushers. Read the complete review |

Origins Pinch Your Cheeks
by carly_pussycat I?ve never really had any problems with powder blusher, but I?m always up for trying new products (especially from the Origins range!) A few weeks ago I splashed out £9 for a tiny tube of Origins ?Pinch Your Cheeks? liquid blusher. £9 for a tiny tube?!? What a rip off!! (I?d imagine is what you?re thinking?) read on?.(please!!) ... ~ The signature Origins packaging ~ Well, as usual the product was immaculately packaged in Origins? plain but effective ?20% post-consumer recycled material? carton. I don?t know why, but these cardboard packages have a hold on me. I am rather attached to the Pinch Your Cheeks one and it hasn?t yet reached my bin, it?s still sat in my make up box holding the product within it! ~ The tube ~ The tube of liquid is a simple silver tube, shaped like a miniature travel toothpaste tube. It has a screw on black lid and a little red band around the nozzle end (possibly because I think their concealer comes in a similar package and you might get them confused if you own both). The tube is 3ml in size and to be perfectly honest I was quite shocked when I took it out the cardboard packet. I didn?t see how it was going to last more than a month! ~ The liquid ~ This blusher only comes in one shade, and it is an alarming deep burgundy colour when it comes out the tube. When I first looked at it I was worried that I was going to look like I?d rubbed a beetroot on my cheeks (a la Tania from Big Brother!) But don?t worry; it?s not at all like that. I would say it is even more subtle than a lot of powdered blushers. ~ How to use it ~ Now here comes the tricky bit! This is a skill that takes a little fine tuning, but it really depends on how accurate you can be?. The first time I used this I squeezed the tube and a little too much came out (but I think this was simply because it was the beginning of the tube). I practised a few times and here is th e method I use now: 1) Apply Origins ? White Tea Skin Guardian (or light moisturiser). 2) Apply foundation. 3) Apply loose powder. 4) Open the tube of ?Pinch Your Cheeks? and look in the mirror. Decide exactly where you want it (I always put it right on my cheekbones and then blend it slightly diagonally down towards the direction of my nose). 5) Squeeze the tiniest amount of the liquid onto either your index finger or your middle finger (use the hand that you normally write with, as it?s quite fiddly!) 6) Quickly put it on the area you want it on and blend in fairly small circular motions on your cheekbones working downwards a little (or wherever you want it) 7) Repeat for other cheek. 8) Check that they?re even, and the right colour. If they?re not how you want them then apply a little more in the same way until you have the desired colour. 9) Wash your fingers immediately or they?ll be redder than your cheeks all day! ~ The appearance ~ This blusher is very subtle (despite the colour when it comes out the tube!) It all depends on what look you like to go for, but I prefer just a healthy rosy glow, and ?Pinch Your Cheeks? is perfect for this. I am quite naturally tanned, so some people may not need to apply so much blusher, and it may appear darker on pale skinned people. ~ Staying power? ~ I?ve never had much trouble with blusher staying on, and this one is no exception, I stay rosy pink all day once I?ve applied this. ~ Removing the blusher ~ I remove this in exactly the same way as my other make up, just with normal cleanser and toner. Although it stays on your face all day, when you decide you want it off, it doesn?t cling to your face for dear life! ~ Which skin types can use this? ~ I presume any skin types, it?s not perfumed or harsh on your skin, so I don?t see a problem! I used to have a couple of blocked pores on one of my cheeks, and I don?t know whether it?s a coincidence but they?ve gone away recently, I?m not sure when but it could have been powder clogging my pores. Don?t hold me to that one! But I can say that this liquid blusher doesn?t feel at all heavy when you?re wearing it, you can?t even feel it?s there. ~ Price ~ Now here it comes??.£9 for 3ml. Ok, I think I can still justify this! I haven?t had this blusher a very long time BUT in the time I?ve been using it the tube doesn?t appear to have been used any more than it did when I bought it. I can see this tube lasting me a few months at least because you only have to use the tiniest amount for each application, but I guess we?ll have to wait and see! ~ So, where can I buy it? ~ Origins is not sold in very many places. At present I can only get it from John Lewis in Bristol and the Origins shop in Bath. The store locator is here: http://www.origins.com/locate/index.html See www.origins.com for further information on the full range of products (although unfortunately you can't purchase online unless you live in Canada or the US). (08/02/04 I?m also selling some Origins things on eBay. If anyone?s interested have a look!) Read the complete review |

Origins Pinch Your Cheeks
by glitter_princess Do you remember when you were a little girl and you?d go rummaging through your mum?s make-up box, piling on the slap until you looked like a cross between a circus clown and a cheap hooker? Ah, those were the days! But it was always the blusher that did the real damage: such a key make-up item that, applied well, can make you look ... youthful and energised but, applied badly gives you the appearance of an over-ripe tomato! And some grown women still haven?t mastered the art (Tania from Big Brother- I?m talking about you!). Now a few years ago we only had powder blusher to choose from, but now we have a tough decision to make: are you a powder girl or a liquid girl? Personally, I?ve never got on with powders- you have to find the right shade, then get the right brush, make sure you don?t apply to much? it?s all just a bit much effort for me! So when I heard about liquid blushes I knew they were right up my street! Origins Pinch Your Cheeks is a liquid cheek stain similar to Benefit?s Benetint and is it?s biggest rival, used by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman. However, while Benetint has a very watery consistency, making it quite difficult to blend, PYC has a more gel-like quality. It is packaged in a tiny toothpaste-style tube which is so cute and far more practical than Benetint- you could fit PYC into the tiniest space in your handbag- and there?s no need for a brush! When you squeeze out the gel onto your fingers it looks a very deep red colour, but when you blend it in it turns a really pretty pink colour giving you a natural sheer, youthful flush which works on most skin tones. To get the best results, use after moisturising and apply the tiniest of dabs to each of the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards. The effect you get from PYC is so superior to any powder I?ve used I?d never go back- when I put this on it looks as if I?ve been out for a quick jog, it gives a really healthy glow. I find that gel blushes achieve a far more n atural and modern result than their powder equivalents, and because they work by staining the skin, the colour lasts all day. It works really well on oilier skin types as it is a water-based product so it won?t just sink into your skin without a trace. I really like the fact that you apply this with your fingers- it gives a real sense of fun to the product- but you do have to ensure that you blend the gel in immediately unless you want two little red spots on your cheeks! And no matter how quickly I wash my hands, I always seem to end up with stained fingers! And if you?re the type of person who can never squeeze out the right amount of toothpaste, you?ll probably find using this quite tricky as it takes a lot of skill to get out the exact amount you want! While we?re on the downsides, the tube is tiny and only contains 3mls, but this is another of those products where because you only need a tiny bit, it lasts forever- I?ve had mine about a year now and still have half a tube left! At £9 when you compare this to Benetint (£22) it seems like an absolute bargain, and it certainly is a far superior product. However, other make-up ranges have caught on to the idea and are bringing out copycat version so if you?re looking for a bargain it?s probably worth having a hunt around (Body Shop do a more reasonably priced version but, like all things, you get what you pay for!). If you?re lucky enough to have an Origins store near you, you can buy this there, but you will also find Origins counters in the beauty sections of most department stores. Read the complete review |
