“ Brand: Hard Candy „
Quite often if I am the vicinity of a Poundland store I will go in for a quick shufty. I love most of the bargains that can be found in store and lately I have been popping in and out quite regularly because with a lot of girl friends to buy for this Christmas (14 in total!) and not a huge budget set aside I was looking for some sort of inspiration. Said inspiration popped up early November when I bought some branded make up from the shop and was really pleased with it so then I thought I know what I will do! I will make little individual make up gifts for the girls, 3-4 items each. Now this idea got better because then I noticed that not only can you buy one product for a pound but there were also little bags hanging up with a couple of random items in each of them. This was perfect for me and I simply decided to buy a few packs on the run up to Christmas to separate!
What I didn't realise about the products though was that they are from a brand called Hard Candy. I'd never have bought items of make up with the idea of giving them to people as gifts if I hadn't of heard of the brand and I had, on the tv on a shopping channel and read an article about the brand so I felt happy about that and new already that I wasn't buying cheap tat. What I didn't know when I started buying the products was that the items retail at anywhere between fives pounds and ten pounds (in stores)....EACH and that's only if you can get hold of them as they are widely available in places like America but not here in the UK. Before anyone else realised what I now know I stocked up and now in mid December have lots of Hard Candy items wrapped up for my friends in little packs that I've tailored for them and what I think will suit them!
Because I bought so many packs I ended up with loads of extras that I didn't really need which meant that I was able to take what I wanted to keep too, so in effect I felt like I got a load of freebies and chuffed I was!
When it comes to my make up for a long time now I have stuck to buying Sleek Eyeshadow Palettes, Boots No7 Nail Polishes and then in the day I wear mostly Boots Natural Collection make up with my best stuff being Max Factor and my odds and ends from Dainty Doll. At 39 years old I appreciate high quality cosmetics and because I make considered purchases rather than buying make up for fun I don't mind paying more for it however lately I have branched out a little and this range....well I love it!
The item that I am reviewing her is Hard Candy Baked Eyeshadow Duo in the colour option 'Pick Up Line'.
The compact that this eyeshadow duo comes in, in my opinion is really lovely and quite modern looking. The base where the eyeshadows sit in is white plastic and the lid is flip-top in style, see-through plastic so you can see the most of the top of the eyeshadows and around the edge of it, it has a a metallic silver edging and on that we are told that it is Hard Candy a couple of times in black writing along with a little black heart and some squiggles making a little pattern. On the base of the compact we are told what it is and the colour option that we have chosen (as I have stated already), the ingredients are listed, the size is stated which is 4.5g/0.15oz, we are told from once opened to use it up within 12 months and contact details of the manufacturer are clearly given. It really is a nice compact this one though it doesn't contain a mirror or an applicator or anything but you do get a lot of product (and remember this only worked out at 50p for me as it was within a pack of 2 items!). It doesn't only look nice though, the compact is robust and its easy to open and securely close and its informative as it needs to be too.
Upon opening this I was surprised by the really high quality look that the eyeshadows have to them plus the massive amount you get of the two colours. My compact has two colours within it in a circle shape which is rather raised and I get half an off white colour which on application has a gold hue to it and half a mint green colour, both are really shimmery and contain small and smooth pieces of silver glitter (only the odd fleck though!) and the colours come as a whole so they are sat and connected in the middle rather than in separated so you can blend both colours easily if you want to.
This is just beautiful stuff to be honest. It contains no fragrance and it goes on quite thickly because it isn't a fine powder basically. Both of my colours go on evenly, blend beautifully and don't agitate my sensitive eyes at all. I never wear a primer when using/wearing these because quite simply I don't have to.
They are highly shimmery colours these and are very light reflecting due to the shimmer and the glitter that they contain. When I first noticed in the compact they had a bit of glitter within them I was worried they'd be too sparkly for me but they really are not and I often wear these for daytime because the glitter and shimmer really isn't over the top at all.
Once on I get hours and hours of wear from them. They don't seem to fade off my eyes at all and stay as bright and as fresh as when first applied, the bits of glitter stay within the eyeshadow too so I don't end up with bits of glitter on my face where I don't want them to and when it comes to removing the eyeshadows it simply takes my usual make up removing routine and nothing more.
I think you can tell by the tone of my review that I really do like this brand and these eyeshadows. The colours I chose are really superb and really rich and well pigmented, the powder is thick, rich and feels silky soft and it doesn't feel heavy on. I appreciate great quality makeup and this really is that. The eyeshadows doesn't upset my incredibly sensitive eyes and whats more it doesn't smudge unless I attack it and rub my eyes like crazy and all in all I think this just a fabby product for any woman of any age!
If your interested in these do keep your eyes (pardon the pun!) open in Pound type stores or Google if interested. I have just found a few of these eyeshadow duos on Amazon from about £2.00 up to a £5.00 (including postage and packaging) and me, I will be buying more of these even if I have to pay more!
On Sunday, my fiancé and I took a little trip down to Saint Albans to pick up our wedding rings. While we were there, Richard asked if there was anything else I needed to get or needed to go to. So, presented with that question a girl cannot really pass on the opportunity of popping into Boots with an eye open for new products. So in we went. I wasn?t actually on the look out for anything new this time. I knew what I wanted (and needed ? as I?d actually run out) ? some bronzing balls, my one and only trustworthy mascara that I can never find and a packet of baby wipes. I quickly gathered up my purchases, had a brief look at sun creams (as the choice won?t be so wide in February when we go on our honeymoon) and took them to the till. The woman scanned my products whilst I chatted away to Richard. I didn?t bother looking at the total to pay as I always seem to over spend in Boots ? just handed over my card, signed the slip and off I went. We got home and I decided to put away my shopping?.baby wipes (x2 = bogof)?bronzer?mascara?.after sun (couldn?t resist ? always a necessity)?and that was it?but was it? The bag had an ?un-emptiness? about it and as I reached into the corner my hand touched something small and tubular. I pulled it out and looked at it inquiringly for a while?what was it? I didn?t buy it?did I? How did it get in my bag? The mystery product had the ?hard candy? label so I knew it was a make up product ? it said something about lips but it?s swirly and very pale blue writing made it difficult to read anything else. Very strange! Had they given me a free gift because of all my loyalty over the years? I scanned over the receipt until I found something that read ?HARD CAN ICICLE CO? - £4.50. £4.50? Not
a free gift then I take it. Assuming the person before me had left it behind I decided to take it back and tell boots the mistake. I put it in my bag. 10 minutes later?it was out and plastic ripped off?it looked so intriguing and I kind of believe in fate (although ? never with a lip balm before ? which is what I figured it was by the way?a tinted one). I pulled off the little pale blue top and twisted it up. Mmm, lovely smell?like coconut (which is one of my favourite smells?see the fate thing working yet?) The colour looked like brown and cream swirls ? like you get in luxury ice cream. I wanted to eat it but instead, smoothed it over my lips. The edge was a bit rough but once it started to melt on my lips it became lovely and smooth. The product was quite soft and easy to apply ? unlike some lip balms. When I looked in the mirror, it was a pleasant surprise, the 2 colours had blended together to give a pale pinky ?brown shimmer that Hard Candy call ?Cocoicicle? ? a really lovely colour for warm summer days and just the sort of colour I would have chosen (see the fate thing again?) It?s great to wear with a natural sun-kissed skin colour and just a lick of mascara. Like most lip balms and lip glosses, ?Hard Candy Icicle Balm for lips? doesn?t seem to last very long and you have to touch it up every now and then ? especially after eating, drinking or kissing. But the girly tube is small enough to fit into the pocket of your jeans or in the bag of your choice. It?s lightweight at 4.25g and doesn?t seem to leak or melt in the heat and it?s smooth and soft on your lips and doesn?t get too warm and slide off. Overall, I love it?I hadn?t tried a Hard Candy product before but if all their products are this great then I might be trying another soon. As for this little one, I?m quite happy it
jumped in my bag to accompany me home and when it?s seen it?s last day I?ll be back at Boots looking for another. **Hard Candy is not tested on animals. **Visit www.hardcandy.com Capital letters courtesy of: http://www.chuckleweb.co.uk/fixit.php
Being a huge fan of nail polish my sister bought me a Hard Candy gift box, which contained five different nail polishes in them. I had never owned Hard Candy nail polish before and was looking forward to trying it out. With most nail polishes I find they don’t dry properly or quickly enough and end up smudging and before you know it, the polish starts to chip off. When it comes to clothes and make up I have to admit I’m such a designer whore and refuse to try make up that’s not designer in some shape or form… HARD CANDY~~ Hard candy is a very popular brand from the USA. I heard the founder of the company couldn’t find a matching nail polish for her blue outfit so she decided to make one, the rest is history. This brand is very popular among celebrities. I have heard a lot of Hollywood starlets use this brand, as it is top quality stuff. DIFFERENT SHADES~~ Now hard candy nail polish is famous for having slightly odd names, such as trailer trash, skimpy, drop out, chump, after hours and many more. Hard Candy nail polishes always contain glitter particles and shimmer. That's one of the different things about their nail polish. It's always glitzy and glamourous. If you are looking for a simple nail polish to go with a simple outfit, look elsewhere, hard candy will not be for you. The colours can be outrageous and even the more simpler colours are still glitzy. My favourite shades are Chump (which is a pink and purple mix), Blast (which is like a tint of pink), Cloud (which is a purple, glittery concoction) and static (which is a blue colour with a tint of purple). Here are some of the shades available. After Hours – This is a lovely, rich red colour. It is a typical red colour but also very bright and noticeable. It also has lovely glitter particles in it which makes the colour much nicer and sparkly. Anonymous – This colour it a pink and silver concoction. The pin
k has over taken as the main colour but there are still some very lovely big silver glitter particles to be found. This colour is really interesting as it is a mix of two colours. Complex – This colour is made in the same style as anonymous, it has a similar look but this one is a brown colour mixed with the silver. I really like this colour because I haven’t seen this colour anywhere else. Cosmic – This is a beautiful baby pink colour again mixed with the lovely silver glitter particles. This is a personal favourite colour of mine due to being a baby pink colour. The colour just screams girly and fun! Drop Out – This colour is a more purple based colour. It is quite similar to cosmic but a bit darker. The same effect is again used with the silver glitter particles. This colour is lovely as it’s a darker pink/purple which is one of my favourites. Echo – This is a much darker brown but a glittery brown. This colour is quite different but it isn’t really one of my favourites. It’s quite unique but wouldn’t really match any of my clothes, I do like the colour though as the dark brown suits the glitter effect. Ego – This is a darker and glittery pink. This colour is more noticeable than the other pink colours and the glitter effect really suits the shade of pink. I like this colour because it’s more noticeable than the other pinks. Erogenous – This is a plain and simple dark maroon/brown colour which I’m not really too fond of. The colour is extremely smooth but a bit too simple for me as I prefer nail polish to have glitter in it. Glitch – This is a white based colour with a hint of green in it. I think this colour is a bit too bright for me as it doesn’t suit my skin tone but it would look good on people with a lighter skin tone. The colour can look scary to begin with but it looks nicer on the nails.
Hick – This colour is a kind of blue which isn’t light but not dark either. The colour kind of reminds me of denim for some reason. The glitter effect also works really well with this colour. Jeanious – This is a mix of green and blue with all the glitter in it too. The colour is quite different and bright but very lovely. It’s more of a green rather than a blue but the colour is really bright and interesting. Piglet – This is such an exciting and bright colour. It’s more of an orange based colour with a hint of brown in there but still bright. It’s kept simple without any glitter but still this colour is very cool. Peep Show – This colour is a much darker shade of retro which I am not really a fan of. The colour is like a pastel shade of pink but I’m not really a fan of it as the colour just isn’t my style. Pulp – This is a lovely glittery brown colour. It has a bit of a brown, orange and beige mix but works really well. I wasn’t a fan of this colour in the bottle but when it’s applied it looks fab. Retro – This is a bit of an out dated pink colour. The colour is extremely retro so it does suit the name. The pink is not really one of my favourites as the shade looks a bit too simple and boring. Sell Out – This colour is quite a wild, bright and noticeable green. It doesn’t lack the signature glitter effect which does make the colour look nicer but I’m not too fond of the shade of green as it’s a bit too bright for me. Skimpy – This is a really light purple colour bordering on a pastel shade of pink. I quite like this colour because it’s a really nice shade of pink and has all those lovely glitter particles in it making it more noticeable. Sky – The name of this nail polish is quite self explanatory. The colour is a lovely baby blue reminiscent to that of t
he sky. It ’s a lovely colour I love to wear now and then because it is light yet noticeable. Solar – This colour is a yellow and white concoction. It is quite bright but still quite simple. I quite like this colour because the whole effect of it is totally different compared to the other colours, more of a swirly effect. Static – This is a lovely baby blue colour mixed with loads of glitter particles. This colour is one of my favourites because it’s so fun, it’s really girly and the colour is just lovely. The glitter also suits the shade of blue. Stop – This is another red based colour but is much lighter. It doesn’t have any glitter in it but is kept simple. The shade is much lighter than the other nail polish colours, but it is still very bright and exciting. Trailer Trash – Oh what a lovely name for a nail polish. This colour is a lovely silver, glitter concoction, kept simple but looks amazing. The colour is mainly grey but with a silver and glitter effect in it. Trance – This is a plain and simple purple/violet colour. I’m not too fond of this colour because its way bright for me. The colour looks lovely in the bottle but doesn’t suit me when it’s applied. I think teamed up with the right skin tone it would look lovely, bright and daring. Vinyl – This colour is another shade of red but kept much simpler without any glitter. The shade is quite darker compared to the other reds and is definitely much more noticeable. The colour seems to have a tint of maroon in it also. THE NAIL POLISH~~ The first time I applied this nail polish I thought it was wonderful. The actual brush to apply it with is fantastic; it just glides over your nail for full coverage. The nail polish does look a bit thin but when applied it does look good. I think two coats would be much better than one. Now it does really dry that quickl
y but that's not really what it’s meant to do now is it. One thing I do like about it though is the fact that when you think it has dried it actually has, so no smudging. Most nail polishes don’t last that long on me but I was very impressed at how long this nail polish lasted. I used it on a special occasion and a week later it was still there unlike most nail polishes. I also applied it on my toenails quite a while back and it’s still on amazingly. I had a great experience with this nail poilish and I'll tell you what it was. Well as usual I was late for work, and I mean really late for work and as I was about to escape out of the door I realised I had chipped nail polish on and that is a definite "no-no" at work. My manager wouldnt care less but my managers, manager would throw a fit and probably force me to go to boots and buy nail polish remover. I hadn't a clue what to do because I'd ran out of nail polish remover. I managed to find a hard candy nail polish lurking in my drawer somewhere so i quickly applied it and and ran out of the door. Thinking it would have smudged everywhere I lifted my hands up to a shock. The nail polish dried in excellent time and didn't look tacky at all. Ever since I've been using this nail polish. THE FREE RING~~ With the nail polish came a free ring. It sits on top of the polish cap and makes the bottle look very pretty. I must admit I had never saw this kind of thing on a nail polish before so this was definitely an advantage that it looks so good. Now the colour of the ring depends on what shade the nail polish is. If it’s a pink nail polish then the ring will be pink too. The shape of the ring varies. It can be shaped like a heart, star, diamond etc. Now the quality of the ring isn’t exactly brilliant. It does look and feel quite cheap when put on a finger but then again it is only there for novelty value and to make the bottle look pretty. The o
ther day I just felt like wearing the one of the rings around the house, after about ten minutes I was forced to take it off after the cheap plastic dug into my skin. I've left it on the nail polish cap ever since. PACKAGING~~ The packaging for this nail polish is quite simple but still fancy at the same time. It’s a square shape which gives it a bit of a posh look but the actual colour of the nail polish makes it look quite hip and made for young people. It is quite a small looking bottle, which is just so cute. I love the packaging and I have started to make a bit of a collection of them just so I can put them on my dressing table. PRICE~~ Since I received this polish as a gift I am not really sure how much it cost but I would imagine it would cost around £6-8. I think the nail polish is of great quality and does last for ages, so I do think it is worth every penny. You can also buy hard candy nail polish sets for £20, which contains 5 mini nail polishes and comes in a really groovy box. ADVANTAGES~~ A major advantage for me is the fact that it lasts for quite a long time. I thought it would be one of those polishes that last for a day before chipping off but it didn’t and I was very surprised by that. Also the packaging is really cute so I think that is really good about this product. That fact it’s a decent product with really cool packaging. DISADVANTAGES~~ I really can’t think of any disadvantages for this product to be honest. It isn’t perfect but it does what it’s meant to do. OVERALL ~~ Overall I am very happy this nail polish and I’m very glad I received it as a gift and got the chance to try it out. I will for definite be trying out some more colours as I think it is one of the best nail polishes I have ever used. The colours are really different and are likely to match certain outfits. That’s what I like abou
t the selection of colours, you can always find one that will match a certain colour and most of the shades have a tint in them. One thing I love about this product is the fact that it has nice packaging but still is a very decent product, this is quite unheard of as when I purchase a product with cute packaging the actual product turns out to be extremely lame and vice versa. The packaging is also really nice so you will definitely want it sitting on your dressing table. Hard candy nail polish is available in larger boots stores and department stores. I was pottering along the other day, just doing some window shooping, when i spotted the hard candy stall of kendals. i tottered over and was so very pleased to see many many gorgeous nail varnishes. I pondered for a while on whether to spend my hard earned cash, and finally decided to treat myself to a lovely shade of baby pink. I got it home and decided to put it on straight away, i was so very pleased with myself and my pretty nails that i decided to go for a night out, however the plesure was not to last when i awoke the next morning there was no nail varnish an the tips of any of my figernails it had all chipped of!!!! next time i buy nailvarnish i will borrow it off a friend first so i can see how it lasts. remember lots of money does not guarantee quality!!!
