Pop Beauty Day to Play Eye shadow Palette
I received this eye shadow palette as a Christmas present. I was very impressed with it as it was great to have all of my favourite eye colour shades all in one. For me, the palette had every colour I would ever wear so was great to coordinate with my other make up.
The set consists of 24 different shades and is split into neutral shades, pastels, muted browns, evening shades and Brights. It comes in a faux snakeskin clutch which is great to pop into your bag and you can be assured the eye shadows are protected. The product is around £18.
I found that the actual eye shadow itself was very good quality and went onto the eye lid smoothly. I also found that the colours blended with one another easily as in the past with other eye shadows I have had trouble with this. The eye shadow also lasts for a long time so you can be sure that your eyes will look perfect throughout the day. This is a great product and I would definitely recommend it as a good gift!
I bought this eyeshadow palette as I had read some good reviews online for the Pop brand. Pop beauty are a quirky-type brand that don't take things to seriously and produce a large array of fun and cutely-packaged makeup. You can buy their products either online direct or from amazon, or on the high street in larger Debenhams stores. This particular palette costs around £18.
The day-to-play palette comes in a faux-snakeskin metallic silver clutch with "day to play" affixed on the front of it. It fastens by a magnetic clasp which is very strong and the palette as a whole is very sturdy and reasonably compact - about the same size as a long purse.
Inside the palette, you get a double ended brush (liner and powder) which is blue with the white POP logo on it. There are 24 eyeshadows inside which are split into 2 groups - day and evenings. As you would expect, the day section contains your neutrals, pastels and muted browns whereas the night side contains brights and evening shades.
The ethos of this kit is that it does you from going straight from day to play in that you can easily transform your daytime look. Inside the packaging you get a little card which gives you how-to's for a few different looks.
The eyeshadows are triple milled and so are very fine. The ingredients listed on their website are:
Mica, Talc, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Buxsis Chinensis (Jojoba Oil), Nylon-12, Dimethicone, Octyl Palmitate, Magnesium Stearate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Chloroxylenol. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), FD&C Yellow No. 5 (CI19140), ED&C Blue No. 1 (CI42090), Iron Oxides (CI77492, CI77491, CI77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI77288), Polyethylene Terephthalate, Manganese Violet (CI77742), Ultramarines (CI77007), Carmine (CI75470), FD&C Red 40(CI16035), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI77510), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI77289).
So, is this kit any good?
Well, I think for the price it is a good value item. The clutch palette may not be the most expensive looking makeup palette but it's nice enough - if anything it's a tad childish looking. The brush you get with the palette is not the greatest either - it's ok but I've used better though it's possible to just slot a different brush into the palette no problem at all.
The pastel/day colour are what I use most of this kit and there are some pretty colours in there which contain a lot of pigment so are easy to apply. I found with the brush in the kit, a lot tended to fall onto my cheeks when I was putting it on. I don't know if I was using too much but it left glittery marks under my eye. I just hold a cotton pad under my eye now when applying and this seems to solve the problem. On the "day" side, the bottom group of 4 shadows are the only ones which are matt and don't contain any shimmer.
Some of the colours on the "play" side are really bright and there are some lovely bright blues and turquoises and a matt or shimmery black - all of which can be used as liners with the liner brush. If you wet the liner brush first, this applies really well and you get a nice neat line around the eye.
Overall, I think this is a nifty little palette which is good value considering what you would pay for an eyeshadow trio from the high street. The eyeshadows are good quality with good pigmentation to them and they are straightforward to apply (though perhaps not with the brush supplied). It is small enough that you could fit it in your bag and so it's handy to carry with you. I think this kit is best for those who like to experiment with different colours and looks and for those who definately like a bit of shimmer. This is a fun and colourful palette and so it probably not one that a straight laced business woman would appreciate...but then again everyone has to let their hair down sometime ;)
