      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      I'd be lost without it

I have never been one to use concealer, although I really do need it. The main reason was because I could never find a concealer in the correct shade for me. That was until I discovered this little gem, and now I can't imagine life without it.

I am very pale and as such struggle to find a foundation light enough for me. Unfortunately I have horrible oily blemish prone skin, plus permanent dark circles under my eyes but as these are the least of my worries I have made my peace with them. I gave up on trying to find a concealer to suit me many years ago, as most cosmetic brands only make their concealers in about 3 shades, and the lightest one was always going to be too dark for me. This all changed one day when I went along to the local Prescriptives counter. I had been using their Virtual Matte foundation for the past three months and wasn't overly impressed, so I had gone along to see what else they had to offer as I had run out (long story, wont bore you with it). The lady on this occasion (there were many) explained that foundation should not be heavy and unnatural looking, and that instead of using a full coverage foundation to hide all my imperfections it would better to use a lighter coverage one and use a concealer to hide all that needs to be hidden. Of course she would say this to sell more products but it did make sense (plus she hadn't tried to convince me that my warm skin tone was actually cool unlike the other lady). She tried their Virtual Skin foundation on me, which understandably covered sod all of my blemishes, then she used some of this Flawless Skin concealer over it to disguise my blemishes, and I must say I was very impressed. So much so that I promptly bought both the foundation and concealer.

I had popped in on my way home from work and had been planning on going home and reapplying my makeup before going out (hence hadn't been too bothered about her applying various shades on me). But she had made me look so good that I didn't bother. For the first time I felt that all my imperfections were well and truly hidden and that I had flawless, perfect skin. I can't describe how wonderful it felt, it gave me a huge boost in confidence. Unfortunately in the light of day I decided that the foundation shade gave me a green tinge and haven't used it since, but I am still continuing to use the concealer as it is so wonderful.

      The Product Blurb

Sorry, I have lifted the next bit off the Prescriptives website:

"This revolutionary concealer brings the cutting edge technology found in Flawless Skin Foundation for superior skincare protection for the delicate undereye area and anywhere else you need to conceal imperfections. Broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 25 ensures enhanced protection for the vulnerable eye area. The cream-to-powder formula of Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer SPF 25 brightens the eye area, instantly conceals dark circles, lines, wrinkles, pores, reduces puffiness and redness with a smooth, seamless finish all day. Medium to full coverage, non-acnegenic, Opthalmologist/Dermatologist tested, waterproof, and fragrance free."

Thought they would be better at describing what it can do than me. As you can see from their description it can be used on the under eye area as well as on other blemishes. I like the fact that it is non-acnegenic (I'm sure I don't need to tell you what that means) so shouldn't make the problem worse. I can vouch for the fact it is waterproof, it doesn't budge unless you want it to. I like the fact it has UVA/UVB SPF 25 protection but as I use it on top of foundation that already has an SFP15 (I think) it is not that critical to me. Nice to have though.

The Flawless Skin Concealer is available in 9 shades, these are: Level 1 Warm & Cool, Level 2 Warm & Cool, Level 3 Warm & Cool, Level 4 Warm, Level 5 Cool, and Level 6 Warm. Needless to say I have a level 1 Warm, and because they do it in warm and cool shades I do not have the problem of it looking too pink against my yellow toned skin, another common problem I have found.

      Packaging

The product itself is a solid cream and comes in a silver tin that could pass for an eyeshadow pot. The shiny metallic tin is about 5cm in diameter and the lid has 5 grooves going across it with the Prescriptives logo engraved on it. The label on the bottom tells you the name of the product and the shade and that it is UVA/UVB SPF 25. The tin seems to be fairly well made; the hinge has not broken nor shows any signs of damage from the daily use it has been getting. This is rather unusual of such devices as the lids are always getting broken off my makeup items that have similar flip-top lids. The catch too is sturdy, it is not going to come undone by accident so you won't go to use it and find that lots of grime has gotten in whilst in your makeup bag. The inside of the lid contains a small mirror, which is very handy for application on the go, but as the mirror is so small I find it is best to apply it using my bedroom mirror instead. The tin contains 3.5 g (or 0.11oz) of concealer, which doesn't sound a lot but I have been using mine daily for about two months and I recon the tin could last me a year. I suppose it depends on how much you use, but a little goes a long way.

      Application

I only really use this concealer to cover up my blemishes so I use a concealer brush to apply it with. I dip the brush into the pot then apply the product to the offending area of my face, and use the brush to blend the concealer in. If I am going out for the evening I also use this concealer to cover the dark circles under my eyes, but for this I use my fingers. I apply my foundation first then go over with the concealer to cover up what the foundation has failed to hide. I then use loose powder to set it.

      Results

I have used this concealer with both conventional liquid foundations and mineral foundations, and it works just as well with both. I was worried that using it on top of mineral foundation would result in a gunky mess or that it would be extremely noticeable, but it blended in seamlessly. It actually out lasted the mineral foundation!

Quite frankly I think this concealer is a miracle worker. I love the fact it comes in a good selection of shades and that there is one that suits me perfectly. Better still it actually works and conceals my blemishes and still looks really natural. The concealer itself has a nice consistency, it is easy to apply, non-greasy, blends easily and doesn't cake. I have found it lasts longer than my foundation. I have never needed to reapply it during the day and it is still there doing its job when I go to bed. I use a soap free face wash and this removes every trace of the concealer.

It has become a beauty essential of mine, I start to panic if I can't find it. The one time I thought it was well and truly lost (it was found in the car) I decided that I would have to go into work late (I'm on flexitime) and pop down to Lakeside as soon as it opened to buy another pot, as there was absolutely no way in hell I was going anywhere with out applying it first! It conceals my blemishes, brightens my dark circles and makes my skin look flawless (or a flawless as it is possible to get it looking under the circumstances). I feel a million times more confident and happier when I have got this on, and for that alone it is worth every penny

      Availability

There is a Prescriptives stand in my local House of Fraser and I have also seen it in other House of Fraser's and in my local John Lewis. Not sure about other department stores but there is not one in my local Debenhams so I would assume they don't stock them. If you want to know where your nearest stockist is go to www.prescriptives.com and use their store locator. Unfortunately the site is American and I have not found a British version.

You can buy Prescriptives online at QVC but I don't think they carry the full range. When I had a look they had Flawless Skin Concealer in 6 of the 9 shades and were selling it for £16 plus £2.45 p&p

      Summary

Brilliant concealer, available in loads of shades to suit all skin tones, not cheap but definitely value for money as a little goes a long way and it actually does what it is meant to and lasts all day long. Highly recommended.
