      Not a blusher for me

For both birthdays and Christmas, my sister always gives me a bagful of different bits and pieces, rather than one big item, which I like her to do. For my last birthday she had put in a couple of bits of Primark's essential make up range, which my nearest Primark, being very small, doesn't stock and so had never tried any of it before. One item from this range that she bought me was this Blusher Stick, which I do not know how much she paid, since as I said, my nearest Primark store doesn't stock makeup, though given Primark's general reputation, I can't imagine it was that expensive.

I don't wear a lot of make up on a daily basis, a bit of blusher, bronzer and lip shine. I wouldn't go out of the house without a little bit of blusher, as otherwise I always look a bit washed out. I am a big fan of cream blushes, so I was pleased that this blusher stick resembled more of a cream blush than a powder blush. On the front of the blusher stick it states 'Designed to make your cheeks radiant'. There is a clear cover so the colour of the blusher can be clearly see, and to be honest, when I first took the blusher out from the rest of my present, I thought it was a lot brighter a pink than I would ever normally use.

This blush can either be applied straight onto the skin holding the bottom of the stick or by using a brush, though I think this would be a lot trickier. I applied it straight onto my cheeks holding the stick against my skin. When I first put it on, I looked like a clown, but when I blended it, it did calm down a lot, and blend in quite well, however, it was still a lot pinker than I would tend to use, and I did feel quite self conscious the first time I wore it that it did look too bright on my skin. The other thing I didn't like about the product was that I felt it was slightly greasy on my skin when I applied it so I was in two minds about whether I would even use it again bit I did try it the day and decided to put slightly less on, but within a few days, a few little pimples appeared on my cheeks, which was unusual, and since nothing else had changed in my skin care routine or diet, I put it down to this blusher, especially since I had felt it was greasy when I applied it. Since then, I have kept it in my make up bag, simply as a back up. When I was heavily pregnant I couldn't go out as far and ran out of my usual Maybelline blusher, and so before I was able to get another, I relied on this one, however, if I used it for a couple of days running, the pimples appeared again and I could only ever use a small amount otherwise I was like a clown.

All in all, this just isn't a blusher, either in colour or content that suits my skin, and I'm afraid I will be sticking to my Maybelline cream blush.

      A fantastic product from Primark...

I was in my local Primark store recently and couldn't help but notice a lot of cosmetic items within the store. These were hanging on a display, and each item was supplied in a little clear plastic bag so that the cosmetic items were each visible and easy to inspect more closely.

After selecting a couple of eye shadows and things to try out, I did notice that one whole side of the display rack seemed to be the 'bargain section'. Each and every item hanging on this side of the rack was available to buy for the absolute bargain price of 50 pence! I couldn't believe my luck, dear dooyooers, as I do LOVE a bit of a bargain. With that, I commenced my search through the hanging cosmetics and make-up items to see if anything on offer tempted me.

One item that I did buy for this bargain price was the 'Primark Essentials' "Blusher Stick". I do use blusher on a regular basis, although I always use a product that is in powder form. I had been wanting to try one of these 'stick' type products for quite some time but had never got around to purchasing one. I felt that this was a fantastic opportunity to give it a bit of a try, given that I wouldn't feel completely gutted if I didn't like the product. For 50 pence I was more than happy to give it a try and pass it on to my young cousin for play make-up if I wasn't happy with the outcome! The usual price of this product is a mere £1 though which is still fantastic value for money!

I did see that in my local Primark store there was only one colour or shade option available in the Blusher stick, although I believe that the product is supplied in other shades too. There is a little sticker on the reverse of the little plastic bag which informs me that mine is 'Shade 13'. The sticker also informs me that the little blusher stick has a weight of 9g which I thought was very reasonable.

To be honest I did think that the shade looked to be far too dark for my own skin tone as most of the other make-up I use on my face is quite subtle. This is mainly because I am very pale and fair skinned and I hate the 'orange' look! I did think that it was still worth a trial though, and with that I purchased the item.

I have used the blusher stick umpteen times since then and am overwhelmed by the quality of this little product. I would pay ten times the price for this product and still think it was a complete bargain!

The packaging is very basic, but it does the job I suppose, and anyway, such things never put me off as I am much more concerned with the product itself! The product is supplied in a fat little cylinder-shaped tube that is fatter than a standard lipstick. The statement "Designed to make your cheeks radiant" is printed across the front of the off-white/silver plastic bottom half of the cylinder tube. This little statement is also printed on the plastic bag that the product was supplied in, so I was quite keen to see if it lived up to these claims!

The top half is the lid of the product, which is clear plastic so that you can see the blusher stick through the top. The product's design is similar to a standard lipstick in that you remove the lid (which is a screw top design) and twist the bottom of the tube. The blusher stick then slowly twists up through the top end of the tube. You can twist it down again once you have finished using the product. I do find that the design of the product is really quite easy to use.

The product itself is also very easy to use. I was a bit concerned about the deep shade of the blusher stick as I mentioned earlier. Because of this, I applied it to my face with extreme caution being exercised the whole time! I was terrified of being left with a 'clown face' or something so I really did go slowly and just applied a tiny amount of the product for the first couple of times I used it.

What I find with this blusher stick is that it is very easy to achieve the look that you want. I generally want and need a more subtle finish, so I tend to 'dot' a circular shaped amount of product on each cheek and then use a little make-up sponge to blend it in. For a more dramatic effect however, I can easily just apply a little more of the product and hey presto! I have a more noticeable result!

The product is a great consistency which makes it easy to blend in. I tend to apply this blusher stick on top of my other make up (foundation, concealer, powder etc) and I have found that it 'sits' on top of my already made-up face quite perfectly. It seems to give a bit of a 'highlighted' look to my cheekbones and a bit of definition to this area on the whole, which I really like.

The product has a bit of a 'sheen' to it (although this is very subtle) so I think that this contributes to the whole highlighting aspect of the product. It is not at all harsh-looking when applied to my skin, and I was really surprised at how easily the product can be applied to my skin, and also at how subtle the finished results are!

I think it is also important to note that I suffer from very sensitive skin on my face, and for this reason I am quite cautious when using cheaper priced make-up and cosmetics. I am pleased to report that I have suffered no ill-effects from using this product, and it has caused no irritation whatsoever to my skin.

I cannot find any faults with this product whatsoever and I would highly recommend giving it a trial. Don't be put off by the strong-looking shades/colours of the blusher stick, as I personally have a very pale skin tone and I have found this little gem is a welcome addition to my make-up collection!

I am a bit concerned about the recent discount of this product in my local Primark store... I can only cross my fingers and hope that it is not about to be discontinued or anything because I really have found a little gem of a product here!

I can only award this blusher stick top marks and emphasise that it is really worth giving it a shot... I am so pleased with the results!

        Disadvantages

        Try it for yourself!

The one thing I couldn't live without in my life is blusher. For years I thought it a pointless product but as I've got older I really do rely on it an awful lot. Mainly I use powders for ease of use. I do have cheekbones, I like them defined a bit more but because I'm very pale skinned I do like to be able to add a little overall colour to my face and I find bronzers a little harsh for my skin tone usually.

Of late though I've been updating my make-up bag a little bit. I don't need to at all believe me but you know how it is ladies we get bored seeing the same stuff day in and day out and I don't know about you but I regularly kick out new products that never see the light of day! My make up bag is rammed full of decent brands and I don't buy cheap make-up as a rule. The majority of my stuff is Urban Decay, Ruby & Millie and the my staples which are Boots No7. I have on other peoples recommendations bought a few Collection 2000 products on a whim which I love and my bag is very mix and match really!

So in Primark we've always had a cosmetic range and I've steered clear of it...till recently when the range grew and I'll tell you something I've never seen people buy so much make-up in bulk as lately as this stuff is in the main a pound a go. Like two eyeliner pencils in a bag for £1.00 and trays of eyeshadow (6 colours) for a pound and what is typical of Primark is that the colour options are bang on trend and constantly updates so they've made it affordable to be trendy....as always lol.

I purchased a load of make-up the other day I wouldn't normally think of buying. I wouldn't wanna buy a blue mascara for a tenner cos knowing me I'd hate it but for a pound type of thing it's worth a shot...and by the way I liked that loads and do wear it now lol.

So I picked up this blusher. It caught my eye because it's a moist formulation and I do like a sheer look for daytime. Available in 3 colours (as far as I know) I went for a deep rosy colour (no colour stated on the product though).

        The Packaging....

The blusher comes in a small hanging clear bag and on that I'm told in white writing that it is Primark 'Essentials' Blusher Stick. On the back ingredients are listed and contact details for Primark are given. The blusher stick is like a fat, round and is white with a bit of length to it so it's not a pot as such. On the front in Bright orange and grey writing I'm told it's Blusher Stick 'Designed to make your cheeks radiant' and round the back I'm told it's net weight which is 0.32 OZ, (9g). It is a cheap looking stick but it is functional enough it just isn't flash looking and to finish it off it has a clear cap and you can of course see the colour through that.

        Using It....

Ok forget it's appearance I seriously love and adore this product for real! I didn't think I would as I'm not enthralled by it's cheap plastic casing but this is a pound product and anyway it's the product that's important and I'll tell you one thing it's one of the best blushers (of any price) I've ever used!

All you do is simply twist the cap off and twist the product up from the middle section which is easy to do so. I use this on a fully made up face with foundation the lot and really it's a finishing product for me is blusher. You either dot this creating 2 big circles on each cheek where you want the colour or you can smudge it on where you want it with your fingers... it's your choice as ever lol.

For me I dot a circle of the moist feeling blusher which just imprints a bit on to my skin. I then blend it which is easy and work it in gently (which takes seconds!) and I'm done. Mine is quite a dark colour however to blend it and get a luminous/defined look takes me no time at all and no fuss or mess either. It gives a soft sheen look to the skin (none greasy or sticky and with no harsh lines) and you can't feel it because it sinks into the skin sort of thing so your not left with a layer of colour on the face which can be transferred off at any God given minute!

        Verdict....

I'm really impressed with this product. It's simple to use, gives great results and is a pleasure to wear. I like the cost effectiveness of this and the way it really does look superb and at this price so what if I use it all the time to look gorgeous it won't break the bank to buy more. Ladies...this is a find believe me it makes looking pretty child's play and it the results stay put for hours and it's easy to remove!

Only available in Primark and for me is not a must buy!
