Primark Shimmer Dust Pot
Advantages: beautiful colour, pretty shimmer, covers well, stays in place perfectly, no mess when applying
Disadvantages: few colours to choose from, messy pots
Primark is well known for it's incredibly low priced clothing ranges, and they now seem to have quite an extensive make-up range as well. There was lots to choose from but I was somewhat dubious about the quality, so I restrained myself from splurging on various bits and pieces, and selected a shimmer pot duo which was reduced from £1.00 down to 50p!
You get two small pots of shimmer dust, which are intended for use as eye make-up as you would use an eye shadow. The pots are quite small and made of plastic with a screw-top lid. They cram a lot of product into these tiny pots and you certainly get your money's worth! Upon opening the pot, a lot of the product has spilled around the edge of the lid and came tumbling out onto my carpet and spread all over my hands. I cleaned this up and made sure to wipe around the screw section of the pot and lid to avoid repeats of this in the future. I think it's definitely best to keep these stored upright otherwise you will risk the same thing happening every time you use it.
There was a limited range of shades to choose from, and I selected the set which included a pale apple green dust and a bright berry pink dust. They look really pretty and sparkly in the pots and after trying them I really can say they don't disappoint.
There is no make-up applicator included, but you can use an ordinary eye shadow brush to apply and this gives the best results. Alternatively you can just spread on with your fingertip but I find this way far too messy.
I used one of my eye shadow brushed to apply and smoothed over the whole of my eyelid. It needed a couple of dabs to get an even coverage but I prefer to do it this way and build up a level of colour that I am happy with. The dust gives a really beautiful colour and has a pretty shimmery look that really draws attention to your eyes. The colours come out looking very flattering and not at all brash or cheap as I had sort of expected them to. The apple geen in particular is lovely for brightening up a natural look, and the pink is great for when you want to stand out.
One problem that usually occurs with similar products is that the dust goes everywhere! Well, not in this case it doesn't. The dust adheres incredibly well to the eyelids and I did not have any loose dust falling down onto my under-eye area or cheeks. It stayed exactly where it was put from the moment I applied it and had real staying power. I have been wearing the green one more frequently, and when I apply it in the morning it lasts through the entire working day without smudging or fading, and it's only when I get home in the early evening that it starts to show some sign of wear and you can see a slight creasing on the line just where your eye socket ends.
I have only used a small amount on each application and although the pots are small they contain a lot of make-up and are bound to last me for ages. This is really good value for money, and in my opinion is just as good as some of the more popular and expensive versions of this type of make-up. Why spend more when this does the job perfectly well?
This product has really impressed me - it performs well throughout the day, gives good colour and coverage, and was a complete and utter bargain. I would certainly recommend these to anyone and for 2 pots at 50p a go you can afford to select several different colours and have a variety of looks. I'll be on the lookout for more Primark make-up in the future and would not hesitate to buy these again!
Summary: A fabulous product in it's own right, and I am encouraged to try more from this range.
