Advantages: Nice choice of compacts in different shades.
Disadvantages: Hard to apply, colour fades after 4 hours.
As someone who loves cosmetics and good brands at great prices when I came across this Revlon Colourstay 12 hour eyeshadow in 'sultry smoke' for £2.00 in T.J Hughes I was simply unable to resist! I love dark, sexy colours on my eyes (which these are) and Revlon I consider to be a decent brand.
The Compact....
Black, plastic, recyclable. lift front cover up, oblong case with a see through plastic front and on the front tells me in white writing it's by Revlon. I can see my 4 colours through the 'window'. On the back tells me what it is and who it's by and promises ' Looks freshly applied for up to 12 hours', then lists the ingredients, tells me the weight (0.16oz) and contact details for Revlon. With my eye-shadows when opened I have 2 small sponge applicators, one larger than the other in black. Overall the compact is quite classy looking and I'm impressed of the mix of colours in all the different compacts, not just the one I purchased. I'm also impressed with the amount of eyeshadow in each colour. They are not tester size and there's loads!
Opinion....
Well I was going on a date with a hotty so I really wanted to look hot myself so out they came. I applied them over my foundation and pressed powder as I always do.
Now I prefer conventional eye-shadow, as in powder kind for ease of use and that's the main reason I purchased these, that and the colours. However, I found them quite difficult to apply. I found them stodgy and they embedded into my eye-shadow brush I prefer to use and as I applied they sort of clumped on rather than spread it was like they were damp but my skin was dry and I was applying the way I normally do with eye-shadows so I'm pretty sure it wasn't me, and I've been doing this for years! lol So I did find I had to use alot for an even coverage but even then I felt that it wasn't that even really and I had to use alot of product which means a) it isn't that economical and b) eyes felt heavier than usual.
However it didn't look bad or anything after quite a bit of work and I found that the make up didn't smudge as I kept having to apply more. I had no flakes dropping everywhere and overall I wasn't in any mess with these which is great when your using very dark colours (these ones are dark blue and greys).
Also while I was out I had no smudges and eyes didn't feel grubby, dirty or in any way agitated.
Now my eye make up did stay put about 5 hours. When I looked in a mirror I noticed my darker colour on the two shades I had used had faded a little bit and gone a bit patchy and also I had a couple of little creases. It was only visible on inspection. The problem with this is that I don't think even if I had the compact with me that I could of smoothed these problems out by reapplying. I think it would of given me a bigger problem and made a mess. What did stay on my eyes ( the majority) was still very vibrant and vivid. Removal of this product is as easy as removing any other decent eye-shadow with a decent remover.
Overall....
For the money I paid I'm quite happy to wear this on times when I know I only need it for around the four hour mark. Any longer or it hot nightclubs etc I wouldn't advise this, particularly with so many options of better make up around. It's nice enough but there's nothing special about it and I did start to worry that my problems were going to get worse had I stayed out longer, yeah I'm vain I know lol I think this product would serve better in lighter shades and for me I'm not sure when I would wear these colours in the day lol
Lets hope Mr Hotty stays put longer than this make up!
I've seen these compacts in Boot's and in Superdrug for about £6.99 but do look in T.J Hughes!
Summary: I wouldnt buy unless going cheap!

- 20/02/08 I think I'd still buy it for £2, despite it's lack of stayability! |
