I am a self confessed mascara junkie, I often have numerous different tubes on the go and am always on the lookout for something 'better'. The latest mascara that I have added to my collection and been trying out is that of the Revlon 'Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara'. Upon purchasing this mascara, I had not actually heard anything about it and only picked it due to when spending a certain amount on Revlon makeup you receive a free mascara, so I entirely had no idea what to expect from this mascara, other than the fact it was a mascara designed to both lengthen and plump/volimize the lashes. It also claims that is has a 'grow luscious' lash enhancing formula in it which is meant to work with your natural lash growth cycle to help them grow longer and healthier.
===~~Price and Availability~~===
This mascara is currently placed at £9.99, though is also on offer at Boots stores. The Revlon range is currently on 3 for 2, this mascara is included in that deal as of 09/07/2015. I don't normally tend to spend over £8 on a high street mascara as personally I think there are many great mascaras that cost less than this on the market, so I was very interested to see whether I thought it was worth it's almost £10 price point.
Alike many Revlon and high street branded make up this mascara is available in the likes of Boots and Superdrug, along with their online stores. Revlon products are not also being stocked in some pharmacies, along with the larger supermarket stores such as Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys.
I actually really like the packaging of this mascara, though I know it won't be to everyone's taste. It has a metallic like finish to the bottle and is in shades of greens and teals, which I personally think looks quite pretty and is slight different to the normal black tubes. Nonetheless I know that some people would argue it looks childish and young, so it really is up to personal preference, and after all, it's what inside that counts!
===~~Applying the mascara / the brush~~===
The wand itself is what I call a bristle brush; meaning that it is not a plastic brush. I personally usually prefer these styles of wands/brushes as I find they coat my eyelashes more evenly and find the mascara in general a whole lot easier to apply. The brush itself is fairly large and the bristles are all evenly distributed in length. Unlike some other mascaras there are no 'multi sides' to this brush where there are different bristles for different uses on either side of the brush. That being said the bristles to get slightly smaller as you get to the end of the wand, which allows for easier access when applying to inner and outer corner lashes.
When applying the mascara the first thing that I noticed was it's consistency. It was fairly thick, but surprisingly was not so in a 'gloopy' was and in fact was very smooth to apply. The bristles are comfortable on my lash line and eye lashes and not at all spiky or uncomfortable when applying. The mascara seemed to evenly coat my lashes and never seemed to clump them when applied. Due to the fairly large size of the brush I found it easy to coat almost all my lashes with just one stroke of the wand. The smaller bristles were really great for making sure I had coated the inner lashes too, to make sure all my eyelashes were covered. Once thing I did notice about this mascara however, was that it is fairly 'wet' meaning that until the mascara has dried it is prone to smudging. I especially found this when applying to my bottom lashes as found it left little small dots underneath my eyes where my lashes had touched the skin there. Therefore I do find that I need to take a little more care when applying this mascara, that being said almost all the smudges were very easily removed after with just a cotton bud.
I have found that I can easily apply 2-3 coats of this mascara to create me desired look without it clumping or looking spidery. I do find that when applying more coats it does take even longer to dry though, meaning that there is a higher risk of it smudging.
I was actually really pleasantly surprised with the results this mascara achieved. As previously mentioned, I have gone through many tubes of mascaras, very few of which I have/ will repurchase, but can honestly say I would repurchase this mascara. My eyelashes looked considerably lengthened and thicker, yet at the same time were defined, meaning that they were not all clumped together to form a few eyelashes. I also really liked the finish of this mascara, it was almost gloss like (I purchased mine in the black colour) and therefore stayed looking newly applied all day. The black colour was also a deep, rich black colour and was not the off black colour I have had previously with some mascaras.
I found that once the mascara had set it stayed in place all day on my lashes with no smudging. It didn't begin to flake throughout the day and neither did it irritate my eyes. Some mascaras I find that I need to reapply throughout the day as it kind if wears if, but was pleased to find that this was not the case with this mascara. I have even worn it to the gym on several occasions and found that it did not smudge or flake here, despite the fact that is is not waterproof.
Although I really love this mascara, I do not agree with the claim that is has helped my lashes to grow or appear thicker or healthier in anyway. I have been using this mascara for around 6-8 weeks news, in which time I think I would have noticed a difference if there was going to be one. Personally, I was not expecting it to do so anyway as I don't really believe that any mascara can do this, but it is the only real thing I can fault this mascara on.
Overall I would definitely recommend this mascara as I have been fairly pleasantly surprised by it. I don't think I have tried any Revlon mascaras in the past (or at least not that I can remember!) and trying this one has definitely made me want to try out a few more! At £10 for a highstreet mascara, I do find it to be fairly expensive, though do believe that the quality and results this mascara achieved makes it worth paying the price for; it actually really reminds me of the YSL SHOCKING mascara in both formulation and results and that mascara costs in excess of £20!
Overall, I would repurchase this mascara and have been very happy with the results, it just misses out on the five stars for me as it is still not quite the 'perfect' mascara for me, so I guess they hunt will continue!
When it came to a rare night out, I decided I should treat myself to some new mascara. My current mascara was not empty, but reading recently about the amount of bugs in make up if you do not throw it away made me think and seen as I had had the previous one for two years, I felt it was time for a change.
My reasons for purchasing Grow Luscious was because it was in a 3 for 2 offer at Boots. I bought this alongside the Revlon Photo ready foundation and an eye pencil (see my other reviews for these!) Alone, the mascara is £9.99, which is not by any means cheap, but about the average price for a non designer mascara.
I decided on choosing the 'blackened brown' rather than the black because I feel black can be too much for my face as my skin is pale. As my eyes are blue, I find brown eye liner and mascara works better with my features. When you look at the mascara it is almost black, however if you hold it next to a black item of clothing or something else, you will notice the difference. The colour was very flattering for me when applied.
The bottle is quite slim, and tricky to grasp when opening, so people who have trouble with their hands or fingers may find that they struggle when using this product.
The first time I tried this mascara, I noted that there were a few clumps on my lashes and was fairly displeased with this, however, if you use an eyelash brush when the product is dry very gently, these clumps will disappear. I have also found that the brush is quite long and flat, so it is hard to reach the lower lashes and the inner lashes without smudging the product against your skin.
I have read other reviews of this product where they state that the product clumps and falls off, but I have not had this problem. I think this would only be a problem if you applied the mascara too heavily, or did not wait for it to dry before adding a second coat.
I would not be adverse to buying this product again, but I would not be adverse to trying other products either due to some of the disadvantages I mentioned. I found that for once I really enjoyed the colour of the mascara as it was a nice dark brown that I have struggled to find in the past, but the wand and the clumping do put me off somewhat.
This review is my own work, and my own opinion and may appear on other websites.
Unfortunately thanks to the amount of different products I use on my eyelashes I have began to see them getting very weak and falling out very easily, so I when I recently saw this product advertising I just had to try it, especially when I learned it is by one of my favorite brands.
The mascara comes in a green and silver tube with the brand name and product information on the bottom section of the tube. The tube has a screw on lid which when undone reals the wand. The brush its self is fairly large, which i like as you can get to all of your lashes at once, not having to work your way round in small sections. The mascara comes in two colours; black and brown. After recently picking up one of Revlon's other mascaras in brown by accident, I have realised how much i prefer brown mascaras, so like wise i bought this one in brown too.
I take the wand out of the tube and begin apply a coat to my lashes. I like to apply two coats of mascara for a day look and then apply false eyelashes and add mascara for a more dramatic evening look. The first coat goes on very smooth and thanks to the large brush i did not see any clumping happening to my lashes. I let it dry before i apply me next coat. Once completely dry i add another layer of mascara and can continue to see the mascara working. My eyelashes are definitely much longer and thicker and with the mascara being brown, they look very natural. The first time i tried this mascara i id not use my eyelash curlers as i like to see the full affect of mascaras, but i have found, that this mascara does not offer much curve, but more length and weight, so to achieve the best of both i curl my lashes and then apply the mascara on top. The combination of the two makes the eyelashes look really long and pretty.
Whilst wearing the mascara i found that is did not melt very easily, leaving the black smudge marks around the eyes, so i was very pleased with that as i hate it when i check in the mirror and i look like a panda, its never a good look. I checked my lashes through out the day and they did begin to drop but never to the extent where it looks like you are wearing no mascara, so if you have time in your day you can reapply one coat of mascara around mid day to keep them in place but if you do not have the time then it does not matter as the lashes still have brilliant length.
I have not had my mascara long enough to stay whether is is strengthening my lashes yet, as i am sure it does not work over the period of a couple of days, so i will come back in a weeks time or so to say how i have found the lash treatment, i have high hopes so hopefully it works.
Overall i would definitely recommend this mascara as it greats incredible lengths and weight to the lashes, the brush is a great size so reaches even the smallest eyelashes, and all for £9.99. I think this is pretty good value even if the lash treatment does not work, but fingers crossed my eyelashes are getting stronger by the day.
I love mascaras and I have more of them than I could ever possibly need. While waiting in the pharmacy recently, I couldn't help but purchase one more new one which has caught my eye. And that product was the Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara by Revlon.
What does the product do?
The product claims that it will give the lashes up to 200% more volume in an instant. Those are big claims and I'm not even sure whether I would want lashes that long! It promises to do so thanks to a conditioning formula and a special tapered brush which will grab and coat each lash individually. The end results should be full and thicker lashes which frame your eyes beautifully and allow you to bin the falsies.
How do you use the product?
The product needs to be applied to clean lashes. You are directed to only coat the very tip of your lashes at first and then leave the formula to dry for thirty seconds. Once it has dried, you apply the second coat in the usual way, starting at the base of the lashes and moving the wand in a zigzag motion all the way to the tip.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within the stand mascara tube which is a green metallic colour which moves into a silver colour. The tube is quite chunky but it is still easy to hold. The wand is in the lid and there are a lot of bristles on the brush making it look bushy and full. It is wider at the bottom and thinner at the top. The product will cost you around £10 and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Superdrug, large supermarkets and also from a range of online websites.
The product is available to buy in a black shade, blackened brown shade or a waterproof black shade. I chose to buy the black shade.
Application and Performance
I applied the product in the instructed way and you can see it making the tips longer immediately. It doesn't take too long for it to dry and then you can apply the second coat. It doesn't have plastic bristles like lots of mascaras seem to these days and it does separate the lashes nicely. It makes you look like you've got loads of lashes which makes your lashes look fuller anyway. It really does coat each of the lashes really well, even the smaller inner ones which makes them look thicker and full of volume. It also makes my lashes look longer to because of the tip application. The formula is quite thick and it is really wet, if that makes sense, which means that it is a quick process and only one coat is required.
The mascara doesn't make my lashes clump together and I really like how this product makes my eyelashes look lovely. It doesn't irritate my eyes or cause them any discomfort even when wearing my contact lenses. The colour of the product is really dark and it makes my lashes look a lovely shade of black. The product gives quite dramatic results and it is obvious that you're wearing mascara. It is still suitable for day wear but also suitable for night wear too so you can move from night to day easily. The product doesn't start to flake or smudge during the day so you won't end up looking tired or like panda bear. It is easily removed at the end of the day using your usual eye make up remover.
All in all, this is a fantastic mascara which has suprised me with its results. It adds a lot of volume to the lashes and separates them to make your lashes look fuller and thicker. It also adds length to the lashes. The results are long lasting and the colour is a lovely dark one. I am really happy with this mascara and I would definitely repurchase it once this one has all gone.
I recently ran out of my regular mascara and didn't have time to go to Superdrug to buy a new one, however I remembered that I had a freebie, it was Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara. I had never heard of this particular one never mind tried it so I decided to give it a go, after all it hadn't cost me anything so if I didn't get on with it I hadnt actually wasted any money.
The Revlon mascara comes in a regular mascara tube, the packaging is quite plain and not overly detailed but this didn't bother me if it worked. The tube itself is reasonably thin, it starts off as a dark shiny green towards the bottom and fades up to silver towards the top. Around the top of the main part of the tube where the lid meets it is a non shiny band with the word "Revlon" written around it in green lettering, towards the bottom of the tube in the 'green section' are the words "Grow Luscious Pumping" this is written in bold shiny silver letters. The mascara tube has a plain shiny silver lid, this is the same width as the main tube so once screwed on it looks like one continuous tube. This has a small white sticker on it which doesn't really contain any information other than the name of the mascara Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara and the barcode. On the bottom of the mascara tube is a small round black sticker this contains the volume of the mascara and the colour which in the case is "Blackest Black".
The lid of the mascara contains the actual mascara brush, this consists of a long thin plastic tube with the brush itself attached to the end of it, the brush is plenty long enough to reach the bottom of the tube. The actual brush is made up of small bristles which are positioned in groups, the brush itself is wider towards the top and thins out to almost a point towards the bottom. The shape of the brush allows you to reach and coat each eye lash, the bristles apply a good coat of the mascara whilst separating out your lashes at the same time. When I pulled the brush out of the mascara tube I was pleased to see that the bristles were not clogged up with thick clumps of mascara, as the brush is pulled out of the tube the mascara is evenly distributed over the brush, thick enough to cover your eye lashes but not so think that you end up with clumped together eye lashes.
When I first applied the mascara I was a bit concerned about how I would get on with the different style brush as it was totally different to the one I was used to. I did struggle a little bit to start with as I was use to plastic bristles on my mascara brush rather than the softer ones on my new Revlon mascara. I found that when I applied the mascara my lashes did clump together a little however with the aid of an eye lash comb my lashes easily separated and fanned out lovely, I think they clumped more because I was not used to the style of the brush rather than the mascara itself, I have been using the mascara for several weeks now and I hardly have any problems with my lashes clumping together. I was particularly pleased with how well this mascara lasted, I wear this every day whether it be for work or a day out, some mascaras I have used in the past start to wear off after several hours, this one looks just as good at the end of the day as it did when I applied it first thing in the morning. The colour is described as blackest black, there's not a lot I can say about the colour really other than the name is true it is a black mascara and when applied really makes my eye lashes stand out without looking thick and over the top, they still have a natural look to them, this particular mascara comes in only 2 colours the second is blackened brown, I do not think I would try this one as I do like to wear black mascara.
As I have said I received my Revlon mascara as a freebie, however I have since looked it up and discovered that it can be purchased from Boots and is sold for £9.99, personally I think this is quite expensive for a mascara and is a few pounds more than my regular one. However despite it being a little pricey it is a good quality mascara and lasts well, I find I only need to apply a couple of coats to get my lashes the way I like them, this means that the mascara is long lasting.
Overall I have been pleased with my Revlon mascara, it gives my eye lashes a natural look whilst making them stand out, it is the sort of product you could wear for a day at work or a night out. There is no information on the packaging to say that it is suitable for sensitive eyes, however I have not had any problems with wearing it. I did have a bit of trouble getting use to the different style brush but this was just me as I have been so used to a firmer mascara brush, this one is much softer which in a way is good as you cannot scratch you eye with it. I would certainly recommend this mascara and would consider buying it in the future, it is a bit more expensive than the one I normally buy, however if I was looking for an alternative I would definitely go for this one.
