Rating:

Advantages: Easy to apply, long lasting, dramatic effect

Disadvantages: drys lips out, needs regular re-application of moisturising balm

I have been on the look out for a decent, long lasting red lipstick/stain for a while, and this one is pretty decent.

DESCRIPTION: a pampering balm fused with a lightweight lipstain in an adorable chubby crayon. Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain gives softer, smoother lips with a perfect flush of color that lasts hour after hour. The gel formula comes in 12 vibrant shades that match any look or mood.

APPLICATION:
Step 1: Apply Just Bitten KissableTM Balm Stain evenly to clean, bare lips. Build color and coverage as desired.
Step 2: Reapply as desired for moisturizing shine throughout the day.

PRICE:
You can pick one of these up in Boots for £7.99, although you could find it a pound or two cheaper online.

The shade I have is Gothic which is a deep red colour. I prefer lip stains to lipsticks as they usually last longer, so this seemed like a good option. I thought the colour pigment might be a bit weak but I was surprised at the strong result of applying a few layers. It's almost like colouring in your lips with a felt tip pen so it's easier to line them than it is with a thick lipstick. After applying a few layers and putting the moisturising balm, which gave it a more glossy finish, the effect was great. The stain is at one end and the balm at the other.

My only complaint with this product is that it does tend to dry out your lips, even with the moisturising balm. I would recommend using an old tooth brush to exfoliate your lips, followed by some intense lip moisturising cream about 10 minutes before you apply the stain. If your lips are at all dry then the stain does tend to sink into the creases and causes a patchy effect when it starts to wear off. I had to reapply the moisturising balm regularly to stop that from happening. It was also a little annoying that the balm won't retract back into the pen and so it's quite easy to snap that off.

The stain was quite long lasting, and I only needed to reapply that every hour and a half or so. I liked the versatility of this product as you can apply one layer for a casual look, and a few for something more dramatic. Over all I would recommend it to a friend, but not one who had naturally dry lips!

Summary: Recommended, but not for dry lips
