Advantages: Feels light, gives soft smooth even finish, blends well, good coverage, SPF 20, not oily or dry
Disadvantages: Hard to get every last drop out, not quite flawless
- Why I Bought -
My sister spends an absolute fortune on makeup and skin care products which is great for me because I get to try them all out without spending a penny! However, quite often I try one of her new purchases, fall in love with it and have to buy my own. At least I know it won't be a waste of money though. Revlon PhotoReady Makeup foundation was one of these must have items.
- The Packaging -
As with all Revlon makeup the packaging for this foundation is simple and tasteful. It comes in a clear glass bottle with a black plastic pump and a clear plastic lid. The bottle states that the foundation is oil and fragrance free, offers complete coverage and gives the skin an airbrushed appearance. The brand name and name of the product are clearly displayed in black on the side of the bottle. Although the packaging does look nice, I do find a glass bottle with a pump a little annoying for a foundation as it means it is really hard to completely finish the foundation.
- The Shades -
The shade I chose is called Shell, which is fairly light in colour to match my fair skin tone. It is also available in Vanilla, Nude, Cappuccino, Cool Beige, Golden Beige, Caramel and Natural Beige. I think this is a fairly good selection of shades but as with most makeup brands I don't think the darkest shade, Cappuccino, would be dark enough for some skin tones. I know this really irritates a friend of mine who is from Ghanaian heritage.
- The foundation -
The foundation is quite thin in consistency which to me indicates that the foundation will be quite light to wear. I apply it with my fingers which is very easy to do and it blends into my skin effortlessly. It does feel quite light on my skin and I think it gives a really nice soft, smooth, even finish. I have a lot of freckles and I find this foundation covers them but not so much they disappear all together which I like. I think it is possible to tell that I'm wearing foundation but it doesn't look caked on at all. It covers imperfections fairly well but I sometimes feel I need to use concealer as well. I would say it gives a medium coverage which is ideal for me. It has a slight shimmer to it which I really like but it might mean it isn't quite natural enough for some people. I have quite normal skin and I don't find this makes my skin too oily or too dry. It has good staying power and lasts well throughout the day, it would probably be eight hours before I felt I really needed to reapply. It contains SPF 20 which of course protects my skin from the sun. Overall I think this is a good quality foundation that compliments my skin really well and gives me the coverage I desire.
- Fancy Claims -
PhotoReady apparently contains photochromatic pigments. To be honest this sounds made up to me! According to the Boots website these pigments "bend and reflect light to help erase every flaw". Basically they claim this gives you flawless skin. I don't think this is exactly true but it does do a pretty good job all the same.
- Price and Availability -
I bought this in Superdrug last year. At the time it was priced at £9.99 and there was also a 3 for 2 deal on makeup so this made it quite a reasonable price. The standard price now seems to be £12.99 but there are often deals and reductions in Boots and Superdrug. I have also seen it in some larger supermarkets.
- Would I Recommend? -
I would recommend this foundation as I think it is good quality, gives me the coverage and look I require and is a reasonable price, particularly when on offer. The only drawback is the glass bottle and pump as it makes it difficult to utilise every last drop. I don't think that would put me off buying it again though.
Summary: A good quality foundation that compliments my skin and gives me the coverage I desire
