Item: Rimmel 1000 kisses lip liner
Colour: 063 black tulip (deep crimson red with a touch of cerise at the back of the colour)
Bought in: Superdrug
This is a lip pencil in the shape of a standard pencil and the outer packaging and lid is the colour of the pencil itself. The lid is thick and sturdy and not likely to crack and slides securely over the top of the pencil so won't be falling off easily in your bag or make up bag. The pencil sharpens easily (no jaggy edges) and the colour is 'set' within the wood and doesn't tend to crumble off like some other lip pencils I have owned. The Detail on the pencil tells you that it is "Rimmel, Lasting Finish, 1000 kisses" in shade "063 black tulip". I like that the colour inside is indicated on the outer packaging and it is again another classic looking design from Rimmel that will appeal to a wide age range.
Application, colour and lasting effect:
You can wear this lip liner in a number of ways and I will explain each of the ways I have worn this below and the lasting effect of each.
Worn as a lip liner - if I want to go for a bold all out WOW dark lip colour I will match the pencil up to a lipstick and simply use the pencil to line my lips and apply the lipstick to the remaining clear areas. I set it by dabbing tissue over my lips and I then have deep, bold, brightly coloured lips. The pencil has good staying powers and dependant on the lipstick you team it with, you should get a couple of hours before the lip pencil needs reapplied.
Worn over gloss to give a light colour - If I want a bit of colour but not too bright, I will apply my usual lip gloss in a very thin layer then colour in the inner sections of my lips with the pencil, then rub my lips together to distribute the colour. This gives a nice shiny version of the colour and I can wear it like that for about an hour before I need to retouch.
Worn over your full lips with gloss over - If you want a colour that will really set and stay on all night, use the pencil all over your lips, wait until it has fully dried in, then apply a very light dab of gloss in the centre of your lips to give it a tiny sheen. As the pencil is quite dry it won't come off when you talk but will come away on food and drinks.
I am not sure if you would actually get 1000 kisses out of this, don't really have the time on a night out to try that, but when using the lip liner on its own it does have great staying powers!
I just wipe a baby wipe over my lips to remove this and it comes off easil at the end of the night.
Would I buy this again?
Yes! I like the packaging, the colour is deep and bold and is easy to apply. I will look out for this next time I need to replace this one or when I am looking for a new colour.
I haven't worn lip liner since the 90's when it was fashionable to wear dark lip liner and light lipstick. Honestly that was the fashion; yes I am embarrassed to admit that!!
The one and only time I have ever visited a Lloyds pharmacy, I go in for a prescription and come out with that and make up. I am dreadful, can't take me anywhere. While waiting for my prescription, I took a lesuirly stroll round the shop and ended up (as always) at the make up section. As I said before I haven't bothered with lip liner, never even given them a second thought, they only had a few and one of them was Cappuccino. I had recently bought a brown lipstick and thought, why not! I have always had the luck of having well defined lips and although my lipstick doesn't often bleed, I thought at the 50p they were selling this liner for, I couldn't go wrong.
The pencil was nice and sharp and after removing the brown lid, I applied the liner to my lips lines. It drew on well, didn't pull or scratch and was easy to use. I applied the lipstick and they matched and looked good. Lip liners are mainly used to stop lipstick 'bleeding' or leaking through your lip line and giving a vein effect to the outside of your lips. They do stop this and they also add a definite line/edge to your lips. One problem I have with the pencil it you have to keep check on your lipstick, although your lipstick may wear away, the lip liner doesn't always wear at the same rate and you can be left with a lip liner line round your lips that looks silly. The pencil sharpens easily and doesn't splinter or crack while sharpening.
Lip liners are a very tricky product to use in my opinion, use too much and you end up looking like a 90's reject, remember those dark outlined lips and pale colour inside, not a good look. Use too little and your lips look a bit funny, like you've lined half of them but not the other half. Luckily with this lip pencil I don't seem to suffer any problems like this and have been very happy with the results I have achieved.
I've noticed as I've got a bit older that my lips are not looking as plump as they used to and I know this is one of the areas in which you do lose some definition. I have quite niced shaped lips but they are losing a bit of definition around the outside of them so I thought a lip pencil would bring back that nice effect
Rimmel say that this lip pen will give you precision application to enhance the shape of your lips and help minimise lipstick smudging and bleeding. What I like about the pencil is that its really quite soft and so you can create a really soft barely there line unlike you would with a really hard pencil. I just need to faintly press the pencil on the outside of my lips and the colour just seems to transfer easily. The pencil contains hydrogenated lanolin and is also enriched with capric oil which softens the carnuba wax so I can see why the pencil glides on smoothly. I also find that this softeness makes it easy to follow the lines of my lips and I never get a wonky or uneven line which is nice.
There are various colours in which you can purchase this lip liner but I purchased the spice colour which is a deep reddy brown. This was the colour closest to the lipsticks I wear and I find it compliments them really well. The two blend into each other so I never have a tell tale line around my lips, I only have nice defined lips and the lipstick never bleeds over. Rimmel say that this pencil also has mica particles help to fill the crevices of the lips lines and so minimise lipstick 'bleeding" so I can see why my lipstick stays nice and protected. This pencil also has Vitamin E which contributes moisturising and anti-oxidant properties to the formulation.
What I like about Rimmel is that it is a good, well trusted make up brand and more importantly not too expensive. This pencil only cost me £2.99 which I think is a great deal and as it is a regular sized pencil I can see it lasting for a long time yet.
Rimmel 1000 kisses lasting finish lip liner
My perception of Rimmel has always been somewhat negative. It really only sells so well because of Kate Moss fronting their 'get the London look' campaigns and I always thought their products were 'average.' It also kind of disappointed me when the whole Kate Moss drug scandal came about and for some reason I affiliate her with the brand, which led me to think negatively about the brand too.
This lip liner was actually recommended by a friend. I saw her wearing this particular colour and I was surprised when she told me it was in fact a Rimmel product (to my dismay and horror!) Only kidding.
******Price and Packaging******
The lip liner is 1.3g in weight and is a decent size. The colour of the lip liner is reflected in the colour of the pencil and lid. The lip liner has silver writing that states' lasting finish, 1000 kisses, stay on lip contouring pencil.' It has also the rimmel crown logo wrapped around the bottom end of the pencil.
The lip liner costs £2.99 from Boots. It is definitely on the cheaper side, but as you will find out, this is not a reflection of quality.
The 1000 kisses lip liner guarantees to provide long lasting lip colour for up to 8 hours. The lip liner is transfer resistant and it's soft creamy texture allows it to glide on easily. It prevents bleeding of colour. The lip liner also has a life of 30 months which is a very looong time.
I purchased the lip liner in spice. Spice is a more wearable 'red' that has more of a pink pigmentation to it. However I must state that the lip liner is not a deep pink. It's hard to accurately describe the colour, but basically it's a subtle red that isn't 50's pin up bright red. The lip liner is available in a variety of colours including, Indian pink, spice, red dynamite, cappuccino tiramisu, cocoa mandoria and black tulip. I have also recently bought tiramisu which I shall also review here.
So was I tantalised and stimulated by this lip liner??
Yess! The lip liner has a good vibrant pigmentation that allows it to give even coverage on the lips. I always find that cheaper brands suffer in this area and always provide really lack lustre colour and weak depth of colour. This lip pencil is easy to outline lips and comfortable to wear. I tend to wear the lip pencil as a lip colour and fill in the whole lip. This gives me a really nice matte look. I then use sheer lipstick on top or gloss to finish if I fancy it.
The spice lip liner lasts approximately four hours and I do need to reapply if I have eaten or drank. This lip liner isn't transfer proof and will leave lip stains on glasses. My lips do feel drier after a few hours, but this is inevitable, as this is not a moisturising lip pencil.
I was really impressed with this shade that I then also purchased a lip pencil in 'tiramisu.' Tiramisu is a nudish pink. Again hard to describe, but it's the kind of nude that Kim Kardashian tends to wear a lot, but this provides a slightly more pink pigmentation. I love wearing this lip pencil above foundation covered lips. It gives me that nude pink matte lip that I find really hard to achieve with lipsticks. I apply a smudge of beige moisturising lipstick so my lips don't look too dry.
This product has changed my view on rimmel products and I am now more willing to try their products if I see something I like. I have tried more expensive lip pencils, and they don't quite provide the strength of colour I am looking for. I would definitely recommend this, especially if like me, you like to fill in the whole lip. I will definitely buy this product again and I can't imagine using anything else! At this price it is also a very good bargain and you can usually get 3 for 2 on rimmel at Boots so you can possibly get this free!
It has only been recently that I have discovered the joys of lip liner and since this discovery there has been no going back. I enjoy lip liner both as a base to line my lips before applying lipstick and also just as a way to define my lips before applying gloss. It was upon browsing my Boots at the weekend that I came across the Rimmel 100 Kisses lip liner and although I did not go into Boots to buy this product, I am a makeup junkie and therefore bought some to try out at home.
This lip liner looks in shape and appearance the same as a standard eye liner pencil the only difference being the bright pink and red shades of the pencil body rather than the blacks and browns attributed to eye liner. The pencil is shaded to match the colour of the lip liner within and each pencil is topped with a small plastic cap to protect the pencil lead from becoming blunt or simply leaving a trail of lip liner all over the inside of your makeup bag.
The Rimmel 1000 Kisses eye liner comes in a variety of shades to suit most makeup looks and these cover brown and pink colours to brighter reds and include such names as Tiramisu, Indian Pink, Cappuccino and Wine. Being that I love a bit of colour and wanted a lip liner which would stand out against my lip rather than blend in I bought the Wine version which is a lovely deep plumy pink.
Whilst I bought my lip liner from Boots for £2.99, it can also be purchased from online stores such as the Online Chemist for £2.79 and even more cheaply from Amazon.
To apply; simply remove the cap and gently draw on the colour around the outline of your lips using the pencil. In my opinion the colour goes on very easily with little pressure required and leaves a deep line of colour. It is then possible to either fill in the bare lips with your lipstick shade or simply apply a sweeping of gloss for a more dramatic look. This lip liner is easy to remove by simply wiping your lips with your usual makeup remover or washing your face at the end of the day.
Rimmel claim that this lip liner produces long lasting colour which is transfer resistant and enhances the shape of the lips. I would guess that this explains the 1000 Kisses name. In my experience, the lip liner produced a deep colour which was definitely transfer resistant against kissing (a claim that I have tested before reviewing). It was also transfer resistant when I was drinking one of my many cups of tea during the day as it did not leave any colour around the rim of the mug. In addition this lip liner was useful in enhancing the shape of my lips as it defined the line of my lips from my face which is always so pale at this time of year.
My only criticism of this lip liner is its staying power when faced with eating my Sunday lunch. The lip liner did begin to fade quite quickly and it therefore needed topping up after the meal.
This makeup product is a bargain and the many colour options available with the brand make it a sound investment for any makeup bag. I would therefore highly recommend it as a useful everyday product.
This lip liner scores a grand old four stars out of five from me.
Thanks for reading! x
Although im a big make up fan and have tried nearly everything at some point, i have never tried wearing lipliner. I decided to try it after purchasing a hot pink lipstick (also from the rimmel range) and thought it better to not spend too much money on it so i got Rimmel 1000 kisses in indian pink.
It was really easy to put on, i barely had to touch my lips as it glides on so easily. I dont know about it lasting for 1000 kisses but it definately lasted for a few hours anyway, even after eating and drinking which i didnt expect!
I was very impressed that it actually did what it said it would do as so many brands dont live up to expectations. This claims "Long lasting colour, transfer resistant lip liner. Precision application to enhance the shape of your lips. Help minimise lipstick smudging and bleeding. " and it really does do all that!
I would definately reccommend this, as at such a good price (about
£3 i think it was) you really cant go wrong with it.
Also for anyone wanting to know, i bought it to go with Rimmel mouisture renew lipstick in 340 lily extase, and its a really good match for it!
These lipliners are terrible! I just purchased two today, out of curiousity - and curiousity actually killed this cat because they were the worst i've tried! Im not a makeup snob, although I like the premium brands the best (im a MAC head, a benefit bimbo, a NARS nerd!), I am not afraid to rustle up a look from superdrug! I personally am a very big Barry M fan!
It's available in 8 shades:
Indian Pink (purchaced)
What they say: "Long lasting colour, transfer resistant lip liner. Precision application to enhance the shape of your lips. Help minimise lipstick smudging and bleeding."
The lipliner went on really well, application was great. The colour was also fab, I bought them in Tiramisu and Indian Pink colours. I was starting to be very impressed! I wanted to try filling the whole lip in (which I do with my mac lipliner sometimes) and cover with a complimenting lipgloss/lipstick. When applying the gloss the lipliner came off my lips! When pursing my lips together the liner went all over my lips-making me look like a two year old who just got hold of Mummy's makeup bag! What a waste of time! Really dissappointed!
Superdrug or Boots don't normally give money back on cosmetic buys, unless there is something faulty with it. I think I am going to go in and make a scene like a crazy cat lady and hope they get annoyed enough to refund me!
It cost £2.93 for 1.2g
I like many women continuously look for ways of improving my appearance. Not only that I hate, hate, hate putting on a lipstick only for it to have vanished in ten minutes flat. When I go out I want my make up to stay put and not having to keep going into the toilets to keep doing re touches all the time. I want to be having fun with my friends but still know I look presentable.
I've never really used a lipliner in all the years I have used make up. I use enough cosmetics on my face without adding yet another thing to do on my face before I go out and whilst out but there was a few reasons I invested in this product.
Firstly to help make a stronger outline to my lips. Ok call it cheating but I wanted something where I could draw on a decent bow to my top lip without it looking harsh and fake and could trust to stay put and not fade or go crumbly hence revealing my secret.
Another reason is I smoke. Now I'm fortunate (at the moment) to not have deep set smoking wrinkles around my lips but I do have tiny ones and I thought this make help to stop lipglosses and lipsticks 'running' and just keep my lip products in place a bit longer.
What Rimmel Say About The Product....
Long lasting colour, transfer resistant lip liner. Precision application to enhance the shape of your lips. Help minimise lipstick smudging and bleeding.
My product is the same one as in the review photograph at the top of this page but my packaging is ever so slightly different (I have had mine for a while). So mine, is a pencil and a kind of burgundy colour with the same colour as I have chosen push on/off plastic lid. On it in white writing I'm told it is indeed a Rimmel product and that it is '1000 kisses' stay on lip liner pencil. Round the back is a white barcode and a list of ingredients.
Well this is as I have said is a pencil in every sense you would expect. It needs sharpening (not at all often) and is made of nice smooth wood giving ease of use in the whole sharpening department. As you apply this to the lips it has no real smell once on though you can smell a bit of wood as you do apply it but do your drawing and it isn't offensive and as soon as you put the pencil lid back on smell is gone. So no smell. No taste either.
It applies like a dream. It doesn't drag as it is moist but it doesn't go on thick or heavy but certainly isn't so dry it's hard work. Its really, really easy to use. The consistency really isn't too thick and not greasy. This is a fool proof lip liner believe me!
Now I picked a pinkish colour to go with my pinks, browns, reds and purple lipsticks and glosses etc. I find it blends with virtually any colour and gives no harsh line and doesn't make lips look too pouty.
Brilliant. Lipstick or gloss doesn't dare try and upset this product. It stays put and really does somehow make other products want to stay around. I noticed that not only did lipstick stay on a hell of a lot longer than normal but when lipstick did eventually fade I wasn't left with a lip lined mouth looking unsightly it just disappeared and didn't leave me with bits of product clinging in the corners of my mouth etc.
If you have deep wrinkles this is highly recommended to you. I doubt very much you can get 1000 kisses in and expect it to stay around but this does give a really polished look to the lips. Whats more is that this on me is great all over my lips and covered with lipgloss. It's heavy duty and lasts hours.
I've never liked Rimmel products but this one is a marvel! Highly recommended!
