I have wanted to try Rimmel's Apocalips lip lacquer for a while because I was curious about a product described as being a sort of cross between a lip gloss and a lipstick, with the benefits of both. I took advantage of a special offer in Superdrug to buy a tube in the fetchingly bright red shade Big Bang, for 4.99 instead 5.99. I love the colour but I don't think this is a game changing product..
All the colours I tried testers for were very vibrant, although there is also a nude. I think a few more subtle colours would make this range more versatile, but if you like your colours punchy, you will find plenty of choice. There's a matte collection too, which I haven't tried as it seems to defeat the object of a product described as part gloss, which to me means some shine at least. My colour does not have the high gloss finish I expected at all, and looks most like a standard lipstick when on. in fact I have used a clear gloss over the top on occasion to give more emphasis.
Overall this reminds me most of a long lasting lipstick, in that it is almost a lip stain, and has a slight drying effect on my lips, as long wear lipsticks often do. It comes in a lip gloss like format and tube though, and you apply it with a slanted tip sponge applicator wand. It is quite thick, but easy to spread out still, and produces a high quality velvety finish. I like the fact it is less sticky than typical gloss, and the pigment is excellent. You get a completely opaque finish with one quick sweep, so it is quite good value. I do find that for me, the "brush" could be a bit more contoured to make applying neater, as mistakes with such colours are glaringly obvious. The main downside for me is while the colour lasts longer than a gloss usually does, it isn't completely transfer proof, and does tend to fade before the end of the day, even if it doesn't completely vanish. I love the intense colour, so naturally I want it to last as long as possible.
I would recommend this if you want a fully pigmented lip colour with more staying power than gloss, but I wouldn't recommend this if you can find some lip products drying as it seems one of those. it does have some of the benefits of both gloss and lipstick, but nothing that is really unique. I would buy again on offer only myself.
I read some bad reviews about this stuff mostly because of it's SMELL. ....Yeah. So I had to set the record straight.
I honestly only found this product because I was looking for lipliner, and *poof* there it was! Glossy lip colors don't usually speak to me, but I put the tester on my hand and it was 100% COMPLETELY OPAQUE! Like, the color payoff was phenomenal! The colors were all gorgeous, but the winner in my eyes for now is "Big Bang" - the perfect red for almost any skin tone.
Applying is easy - it goes on creamy and smooth, and feels GREAT on my lips. It doesn't dry them out. Color lasts for hours through eating and drinking, and once it does wear off, it leaves a lovely stain. Even the packaging is cute - it's kind of edgy, but I LOVE that it *clicks* when the wand is tightly secured. The wand also has a little well that holds color so application is essentially seamless!
As for scent? It's a drugstore makeup brand. It smells like drugstore lipstick. It's not disgusting, and it definitely doesn't last long. In my opinion, the feel and look of these lipcolors is way worth a second of "meh" scent. Seriously i never thought i would love a lipgloss so much it truly took me by surprise because i have never ever found a lipgloss that gives such flawless glossyness and colour payoff as this one i truly reccomend it to you
When the Rimmel Apocalips first came out, I went straight out and bought myself two of the shades- Apocalyptic (a beautiful bright pink) and Big Bang (a lovely bold red) and since then, I am always adding to my collection.
The Lip Lacquers are a sort of lipstick and lipgloss hybrid. Lipgloss like in the way they apply but lipstick like in their finish.
They glide on easily with the help of the doe foot applicator and upon application look very, very glossy. Once they have dried, after a few seconds though, they have more of a satin to matte finish to them an they literally stay put all day. Through eating, drinking and talking, they do not budge.
I find with a lot of lip products that lean towards a matte finish, that they can be quite drying and can settle in fine lines in your lips- not a good look. The Apocalips do none of this however, an just leave lips looking pretty and ready for action.
Also, they are so cheap. I would happily pay double the price for them because they are THAT fantastic.
I cannot recommend these enough, whether you're looking for a lip product for a night out that you know is going to last, or a more day time product; from bright reds and pinks to pretty, more subtle nudes, Rimmel have you covered.
I am IN LOVE with this lip lacquer. I have the shades Lune, which is a pinky nude colour and I have Big Bang, which is a really sharp red. Both colours are fab! The Big Bang last for ages and is almost like a lip stain, it really does last all day without drying out your lips, a little touch up might be needed as it will transfer onto anything you put your lips on but the stain of the colour will remain on your lips all day. Luna on the other hand doesn't stain the lips as Big Bang does but is a gorgeous nude colour and the lasting power is OK. I would definately repurchase and I would like to try the other colours in the range.
A bargain for only £4.99.
I can't wait to get my hands on some more shades.
BUY if you don't already own!
When I first bought this I was a bit curious as to what the finish and color pay off would be like - I was impressed! The packaging is super slick, and it gives a match of the actual colour on the front, which is great. It's not usually the thing I go for but I'm glad I did! Love the names aswell - I purchased 'Luna', a orange, corally, peachy shade which would also be beautiful for the summer. It's quite pigmented and creates a glossy yet matte affect (I don't know how!) I recommend if you're looking for edgy, pretty colours on your lips!
This lipgloss is one of the best ones I've ever used. I use the red one and I tend to use it on nights out. I apply it before I go out and it stays on perfectly until I get home with no need to reapply throughout the night. The colour is rich and intense and doesn't fade. It's almost impossible to get off in fact! It makes your lips look fuller and more luscious! It's also very easy to apply, it just takes some scrubbing to get off. I would highly recommend this product if your looking for a lasting lipgloss with intense colour. It's reasonably priced too. I would like to try some of the other colours in this range for defo. It has a nice gloss effect which also doesn't fade. Thanks for reading :) please try because you won't regret purchasing this amazing little number :)
i love this product soooooooooo much, its great. As a big fan of rimmel, when this product came out i had to try it out, so i bought it in three colours, a nude, a coral/nude and a purple/plum colour, and i'm proud to say they are fantastico! these are mix between a lip stick, a lip stain, and a lip gloss which is great for people on a budget as they are very inexpensive for what they are. there are a range of colours to choose from so something to suit everybody. the formula is great because it is very longlasting and because it acts as a lipstain the colour stays vibrant and solid all day, even after eating which is a bonus. they look really nice on too as they give you a glossy finish. they also have a scooped applicator so you can apply more product at once.
A few months back I treated myself to one of the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers. I got mine in Superdrug on a £10 for two Rimmel items offer. The Lacquer was available in eight colours and the one I chose was a dusty rose pink shade called Celestial.
I'm used to just slapping on a swipe of lipstick, but after carefully applying Apocalips I went straight out the door, into a gust of wind - and within seconds my hair was all over my face, stuck to my lovely new lip gloss.
It went back into the depths of my handbag after that incident, and I forgot all about it.
Shortly before Christmas we attended a wedding and I wanted something glam to wear on my lips, so I went hunting in my bag, found my Apocalips, dusted off the fluff and decided to give it another go.
The bottle is an interesting crystal design, and has a little wand with a foam applicator attached to the lid. When I chose the colour there were no testers so I took a bit of a gamble. The actual lip gloss is a brighter pink than it appeared in the bottle, but I still liked it as it was not too bright.
It is easily applied and initially sits just like a thick coat of lacquer on your lips. This initial look is quite stunning - a teeny bit, erm "young" for me, but very glossy, bright and thick. Being quite a sober colour I probably got away with it ok, but if I was to buy another shade I'd really have to test it first.
After a time the effect kind of "calmed down" and the gloss wasn't as noticeable but the colour was lovely and well absorbed into my lips. I found it best to let the lacquer settle a bit before I had a drink or ate something, as it would stick to anything that came into contact with it. Once this was done it was long lasting, and left a bit of a stain on my lips which was actually a rather nice look.
However, there was a downside, as I found after wearing it the product really dried out my lips. Combined with standing outside for photos in the winter chill and wind, I had unpleasant chapped lips for days after, which was a shame, as I really liked wearing this.
Well, I didn't break any cameras and looking back at the photos the product seems to have given me a dressy, made-up look, but not too extreme. It was really nice for a special occasion, and would probably be great for clubbing or special nights out for you young dooyooers!
I checked out Rimmel's website and there are 13 colours now available (names by Rimmel, description by me)
Nude Eclipse -nude
Stellar - red coral
Luna - regular coral
Big Bang - red
Apocaliptic - fuchsia
Galaxy - plum
Nova - bright pink
Celestial - dusty rose pink
Eclipse - grape
Across the Universe - dark red
Shooting star - dark nude
Out of this World - pink
Aurora - rose red
To conclude, I would buy, and wear this again - I might be more adventurous and choose a brighter colour, but it would only be for a special occasion - a couple of days of dryness is worth the sacrifice for the lovely effect but I wouldn't wear it too frequently.
Thanks for reading.
When I seen Rimmel's Apocalips on the shelves, I was eager to try it as my favourite lippy is from Rimmel. I bought two from ASDA in Luna and Stellar, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
they can be bought from a variety of stockists, including Boots and Superdrug for £6.49, ASOS for £6.00 and cheapest at ASDA for £5.98. Boots currently have a 3 for 2 offer on make-up, so it might be worth checking that out!
They come in small, chunky black containers, with the bottom showing the lipstick in a sort of gradient effect It's a pretty cute looking lippy, and it's handy as you can tell the exact shade of the lipstick before you buy. It has "Rimmel APOCALIPS lip lacquer" on the front and some details about the product on the back. The container is incredibly easy to open, and the wand applicator attached to the lid is very easy to use and shaped to fit your lips exactly for a flawless application.
I love Apocalips because it's a stainer, lipstick and gloss - it stains your lips, adds bold and vibrant colours, but also adds a beautiful gloss to your lips. I find the colour can last for hours; the gloss is very sticky though and can come off really easy, but still leaves your lips stained with a little pop of colour.
The product comes in eight shades - Nude Eclipse, Stellar, Luna, Big Bang, Apocalyptic, Galaxy, Nova and Celestial. I purchased the shades Luna, which is a bright peachy/orange colour and compliments my pale skin tone perfectly, and Stellar, which is a pink/red. I think the Stellar is more suited to nightwear. I didn't like the look of the Stellar against my skin tone, so I passed it onto my mum and she loves it as it suits her perfectly.
The product is incredibly easy to apply as it comes with a wand applicator which is shaped to give a flawless application. I tend to moisturise my lips beforehand as it tends to show up dry areas on the lips. It tends to bleed sometimes, so it may be worthwhile investing in a lip liner. But in general, it is really, really easy to apply and doesn't take a lot of effort. It's small and compact, so can fit in your bag on nights out, and be reapplied if the shine begins to come off.
Overall, this is one of my favourite rimmel products ever. The lip lacquer is cute, easy to apply and makes lips look gorgeous and full. I think dependant on the colour, and how you wear it, it can infact be suitable for everyday use and night time. I also think the price is fair as it is a really good quality product from Rimmel. I will be buying this product again to test out some other colours. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to add a pop of colour to their lips.
When this first came out which was quite recently, I looked at the range of colors and tried testers, and didn't think that I would like any of them because of how the colors looked and thought that they would be too strong or too weak for my complexion. But it took me a while to find one that I did like which was, '300 Out of this World' shade, which was in between a light pink and a dark pink, which turned out to be a nice shade, so I was willing to give it a try.
It wasn't keen on the presentation of the product, as it wasn't appealing to me and not every eye-catching, because it was presented as how a lipgloss is presented, but the majority of it was black, with the color of the gloss at the bottom, so this can be a little bit difficult if you girls lose this in your handbag, because finding this product in a handbag could be a struggle to find, as some handbags have dark materials inside rather than lighter shades of material.
It was a risk because I wasn't sure if the outcome was going to be like on the adverts, and also it was quite expensive, (I paid about £5.19 in Superdrug, as it there was a special offer on Rimmel London products at the time I bought it) You can also get this product from Boots at the same price and at various supermarkets such as ASDA or Morrisons.
When I go out and have a tan, I tend to wear pink lipstick, and I thought this could be a nice change from bold, outstanding lipstick, I tried the product on without lipstick and to me it felt like chapped lipstick and my lips had dried up. So don't be fooled when you buy this and think it's a lip gloss or lipstick - because it isn't - that's why it is called a lip lacquer.
I gave the lacquer another go, this time with lipstick on and see if it made a difference or just stayed the same and the outcome was a lot different to how I tried it the first time. It made my lips stand out and the color didn't look over the top either, you can't tell if you're wearing a lipstick or a lip gloss over lipstick which is pretty amazing! So if you go out for the night, you'll only need this to top up your lips rather than lipstick throughout the night (depending on how much you drink) and the best thing about this when using this product on lipstick was that, my lips did not feel dry, so I didn't have to use any format of vaseline or lip balm.
There is a good selection of colors of this lacquer, I might try the red one at a later point as I am a huge fan of wearing red lipstick, so there is a shade for whatever lipstick color you wear or you can wear it like a lip gloss/ lipstick if you wish, if it works for you. But if you wear it over the top as a gloss for lipstick, make you buy one that matches or closely matches your lipstick!
I would use this product again, but I wouldn't use it as everyday wear because of the feeling it has on my lips and it was a little bit too expensive, I think under £5 would be a bit more reasonable. For Example, £4.50 but that was unlikely to happen as it was a brand new product for Rimmel London.
I personally love this product! They are super pigmented and come in 13 beautiful shades. The texture is lovely and creamy, and the applicator makes applying the product 10x easier! The packaging is great - very sleek and not too much nor too little product. The only things wrong with this product is that they do not last a whole day on the lips - only a good few hours or so, and I do not like the taste or smell of them but they have many more good points than bad. They are not overly glossy or moisturizing but they don't dry out my lips like some others. My favorite shade is Luna which is a nude pink color, there is another color similar but it is too nude for me so this shade is perfect. Not too bright nor too simple. I would highly, highly recommend these products and buy more in the future since they are such an affordable price!
So I'm a bit of a youtube beauty channel addict and it was through this that I was first introduced to the rimmel apocalips lip lacquers. From being first released they were given rave reviews from all the beauty gurus on youtube and were featured in many a video, naturally I had to try them for myself.
I bought three different shades when they were on offer in boots; nude eclipse (a gorgeous nude colour), luna ( a more peachy nude) and celestial (a lovely dusky pink shade). Usually you pay 5.99 rrp but I got them on 3 for 2 so it was a definite bargain.
The first thing you notice is the punchy name but there is much more to this product, the packaging is lovely looking and unlike many lip glosses its not mega long therefore making it easy to slip in your clutch bag or pocket for on the go. It has a wand applicator that has an indent in the sponge to really hold a decent amount of product so its easy to apply with one swipe. The sponge covers the lips nicely too without making a huge mess.
The main selling point of this product is its high shine lacquer formulation and it 100% meets this claim. Its a lovely smooth and fairly thick formula which has a brilliant glossy shine. All of the shades I own are highly pigmented so theres no chance of not being able to see the gloss. In order for it to have the staying power that it does (it easily lasts 4-5 hours between applications) it is quite a sticky gloss which personally I don't mind but if your not a fan of sticky glosses this may not be your thing.
Currently in the UK rimmel offer 8 different shades which includes everything from a much raved about bold bright red (big bang) to the more neutral shades (nude eclipse). There is a good basic range of shades although there is definitely scope for a wider range to be bought out and I really hope they bring more out soon!
well done rimmel!
A red lip is a timeless classic; a bold beauty. There is nothing more empowering than a red lip and I would encourage every girl to try it at least once. I was never one for wearing much makeup on my lips but recently I have been embracing my femininity by wearing red lip colours. Almost anyone can pull off the look and with the amount of shades available, there is something to suit everyone.
Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer claims to be a happy medium between a lipstick and a gloss. It has the bold colour of a lipstick and the er, glossiness, of a gloss. It can be bought from most good drugstores and large supermarkets. In Boots it retails for £5.99. There are currently eight shades available listed below:
I bought the product in the shade Big Bang which is a bright fire-engine red.
The product applies smoothly with the wand applicator. Only one coat is necessary as the creamy texture really clings to the lips and the bold colour is completely opaque. It does not feel sticky like some glosses, but incredibly light as it glides across the lips. It is best to use a lip balm beforehand because there is a chance the lacquer will cling to dry or flaky areas, resulting in uneven coverage. However, it will not dry the lips out like some lipsticks do. It feels hydrating and packed with moisture. There is a slightly fruity scent upon application which I like.
After applying, my lips are bright red. It almost looks as if I have applied lipstick and then a gloss as a top coat. After a few hours of wearing, the product does seem to wear off a little and my lips are not as shiny. I also noticed that the product had started to bleed into the skin around my lips. After discovering this, the next time I wore it I use a red lipliner and lipstick underneath. It lengthened the lasting power greatly (about 7 hours) and there was no sign of bleeding. After wearing, the product is a bit more difficult to remove than other lip colours due to the high level of pigmentation, but it does come off. After removing, my lips are soft with no signs of dryness.
In conclusion, I would recommend this lip lacquer to anyone who often wears a lipstick and a gloss or anyone looking for a bold colour.
I love to wear make up and, although lip stick isn't an area that I'm confident with, my lips look to bare without anything on them. I decided to give Lip Laquer by Rimmel a try.
What does the product do?
The product promises to keep your lips the intense colour of a lipstick with the shiny finish of a gloss. It is described as being earth shattering and explosive by the brand that will change colour as we know it. It all sounded a bit dramatic to me! It claims to be packed full of pigments and the creamy formula promises to condition and hydrate the lips to leave them in a better condition. It promises to be long lasting and to leave your lips looking eye catching and beautiful.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to lips that are clean and dry. You simply sweep the wand across the lips, coating them evenly. You can reapply the product as needed.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a classy and eye catching plastic tube. Half the tube is transparent so you can see the colour of the product inside so you know exactly what you are getting. The other half of the tube is black which gives it a striking look. The lid of the product is black and it has been cut into shape like a diamond at the top. Inside the lid is a doe foot sponge applicator. The product will cost you around £6 to buy and they can be bought from stores such as Boots and Superdrug. large supermarkets and also from a range of online websites.
Most of the shades are different pinks and purples. They come with cosmic names such as Luna, Big Bang, Eclipse and Apocolyptic. I picked Galaxy which is a deep plum shade which has a hint of sparkle to it.
Application and Performance
The applicator sponge is soft and it is indented in the middle to capture the excess off the lips. The texture of the product is incredibly creamy and it does glide easily across the lips without any pulling or dragging of the delicate skin. The product doesn't have a nice smell to it at all. It is quite plastic like and artificial. It isn't overly strong but you can definitely smell it and the aroma lingers for a short while after application. It has a taste to match which I don't find particularly nice but then at least it stops me from licking my lips. The colour of the product is highly pigmented and it's definitely the highest colour payout that I've ever seen on a product of this type. It is completely opaque and one coats covers the lips completely.
The colour is rich and beautiful on the lips. It has such a creamy consistency that it actually feels like it is hydrating the lips too. It is completely comfortable on my lips and it doesn't make my lips feel irritated at all as some products can. The flecks of glitter are pretty without being in the face but if glitters not for you then there are plenty of glitter free shades to choose from. They have a beautiful shiny finish which makes them look like a gloss but without such a sticky consistency. The product has long lasting results, and I can go quite a few hours without reapplying, even after eating or drinking. The product is easily removed using my usual make up remover and my lips are left moisturised and conditioned underneath.
All in all, this is a lovely lip product which is easy to apply and with a high colour payout. It feels comfortable on the lips, has a lovely shiny finish and has long lasting results. The colour is opaque and quite intense so they are perhaps better suited to the evening rather than a boring day in work. I would happily repurchase another of the shades in the collection.
~*~*~ Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer ~*~*~
I bought this lip lacquer from ASOS a few months ago. I'd been wanting to try it for a while and decided to add it onto my order because it was free delivery. It's also available from Boots and Superdrug as well as Amazon etc, and the retail price can vary a little but I paid £4.59 for mine.
This is basically a cross between a lipstick and a lipgloss and I was expecting it to be just a really highly pigmented lipgloss but the texture is lovely and thick and it looks like a glossy lipstick on my lips - I am really impressed with it and will definitely be buying it another shade once I choose which one I want - there's a lot of shades (eight) to choose from!!
The shade that I currently have is 'Bigbang' which is a very bright, daringly bold shade of red. I chose this shade because I thought that I could wear a thin layer of it over red lipstick to give my lips a little more gloss, and of course as an alternative to lipstick too. Needless to say because of the consistency I don't wear it over lipstick (this as well as lipstick would be way too much) and I just wear it as an alternative to lipstick as it looks just as good.
The shade is absolutely gorgeous and so bright, and unlike most of the red lipsticks I have it isn't drying and it doesn't highlight any cracks in my lips or any dryness - huge advantage. It makes my lips look bigger too because of the glossiness and I love that its an all in one product sort of thing, like when I wear lippy I will usually have to apply Vaseline or lipgloss over the top whereas with this I just apply it and that's that. I literally only need one swipe of it; the colour payoff is excellent. It is really easy to apply as it has a slanted foam applicator which is really precise although it is easy to apply too much due to the thick formula, so I do sometimes need to wipe away the excess but apart from that I can't really fault it.
The colour lasts for ages, although when it comes to eating and drinking it can become a little worn away and patchy looking so I do need to re-apply it in this case but if I'm not eating or drinking then it stays in place nicely. I have had a few compliments when I've been wearing this, mainly just complimenting me on the colour of it and asking me where my lipstick is from, to which I always point out that its actually a lip lacquer!
As well as the formula, the colour and the applicator, I also like the tube - it is nicely designed with the colour visible (which will be great when i have more than one as i will be able to see which is which) and it is just the right size, it's small enough to fit in my bag without taking up hardly any room but not fiddly or anything, you get a lot in the tube which makes it great value for money. I've had my tube of it since march or thereabouts and the tube is still pretty full. The formula hasn't dried out or gone gloopy either.
I definitely recommend this lip lacquer and I give it five out of five stars.
The earth-shattering lip lacquer from Rimmel London combining the intense colour of lipstick with a lacquer like shine, Apocalips Lip Lacquer; is an explosive make-up phenomenon that represents the end of colour as you know it / Packed with pure colour pigments, its lusciously creamy, conditioning formula promises a never-before combination of colour, shine and comfort that last and last.
