Advantages: Provides a shine-free finish, long lasting, no waste, very cheap, easily available.
Disadvantages: None really unless you count the cheap look packaging and no applicator - but I don't mind either.
I bought this product on the spur of the moment when I popped into my local chemist to buy the raved about Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara (which I love and will review soon by the way). I was having a "hmmm, what else can I buy...?" sort of moment, and upon seeing the price of this powder being under £4, I thought that would do (yep, I'm that kinda girl I'm afraid!)
So, what do I think? I absolutely, 101% love this product. It does exactly what it says it should do, and it works brilliantly for me.
I bought shade number 021 - Transparent, which according to the Rimmel London website is the only shade this powder is available in. The packaging really is cheap and cheerful - a pale green base with a clear lid and white writing. On the lid we are told this is Clear Complexion Clarifying Powder + Natural Minerals. The net weight of this product is 0.56 oz / 16g.
On the base of the product is a sticker with slightly difficult to read white writing on it that says:
------------------------------------------------- ----
Pure and shine-free finish for up to 5 hours. Clarifies skin thanks for Pureskin (TM) complex known to minimize skin breakouts. Controls shine and mattifies skin. Dermatologically tested.
------------------------------------------------- ----
Those of you that have read a few of my other reviews will know that I don't like wearing foundation. This is partly down to laziness on my part, I find the blending part very difficult and time consuming to get a nice natural looking finish. It's also partly due to the feel of it on my skin, I don't like feeling like I'm wearing a mask of make up, and I always seem to feel that way no matter how light the product is.
I was looking for a product that would be light feeling, dare I say natural feeling, but would give me a matte finish on my shiny skin. My skin isn't the best - but I don't feel I need to hide it away under layers of make-up. This Rimmel powder is THE perfect product for me.
I apply it on moisturised skin. No foundation or primer, just my usual daytime moisturiser. I apply it with a large kabuki brush, swirling the brush over the powder and applying it in circles onto my face and neck, building up the coverage gradually. It doesn't look as if you get much onto the brush as the powder is very compact in the pot, but I like that as you can control the application very easily and there is no absolutely no wastage.
I am not looking for a product that conceals anything - that hides things or evens out skin tone or anything like that. This powder doesn't claim to do that - all this claims to do is to provide a shine-free finish, and for me, it does that job perfectly. It's exactly what I want for a cheap price, in no frills packaging. I don't care that it doesn't have a cute little brush, or a sponge to apply it with - I end up throwing the sponges away anyway and rarely use the brushes. I much prefer to use my trusted kabuki and am grateful that I'm not paying more for an extra I don't actually want or need.
I just add my eye make up, blusher, and lipstick and away I go - and I have gotten compliments on my clear complexion, so something is working nicely :o) I find that the product lasts really well, despite me touching my face throughout the day - at least 5 hours. I've also had no breakouts in the month that I've been using this powder - this may be a coincidence of course, I'll know more over time and will update this review accordingly.
Summary: Bargain product that works brilliantly for me, I will be buying this over and over and over again...

- 13/07/09 I thought this was a bit crap, but that's probably because I always use the Clinique Clarifying Powder which is brilliant :) |
